If you are like me - a beginner with a basic sewing machine some tutorials out there are a bit scary, when they use the lingo and insist that you have the proper size fitted mannequin you get a bit discouraged. I don't have anything like that in my stash but you should be able to use this tutorial to make it smaller 😊 (I'll keep an eye out at the thrift shop for a boho dress to downsize for a new tutorial though!)

Thanks Delaina =O) The sleeves were actually too long so I simply them chopped them to my desired length before reattaching them. (I have loads of refashioning tutorials over on my blog too: awesomesauceasshattery.com/

As I had to chop the sleeves and make them shorter to fit & the original sleeve width was tapered, the new length fit perfectly in the new arm hole so there was no need to take them in =O)

Use whichever you're most comfortable with. I grew up using the metric system so usually use cm as I have no idea about feet & inches 😄

Because I also shortened the sleeves (by chopping them off at the top/shoulder area raw edge) they ended up being the correct width for the arm holes 😊

Depending on how the lining is attached you can either remove it & use the same steps to downsize it then reattach it or, if it's only attached at the shoulder seams you can try to downsize it while it's still attached. I usually remove the lining completely & simply wear a slip under the dress if needed 😊

I was a beginner when I made this video 😊 My tutorials are usually my first attempt at an idea & I'm always learning too😄 You can simply skip that step, the final result may not be as comfortable if the sleeves aren't re-aligned with the new side seams but give it a try, refashioning is all about trying new things & revamping old into new to you ♻️ if it doesn't work out, make it into something else!

Casey meyers If it's a sleeveless dress you can easily shrink the armholes using the technique in the video (stitching down at an angle) or add a coordinating fabric panel to each armhole to fill up the extra space - a tailor would most certainly be able to fix it =O)
