I found $180 in a pair of jeans at GW once! That was awesome. Then I sold the jeans on eBay. :)
@katburgess85334 жыл бұрын
How sad for the one who forgot and left the money in the jeans. I guess there was no way to find out who they were, but I would have at least turned it in to Goodwill. My conscience would have eaten away at me. $180 would buy a lot of groceries for somebody. Again, that is just so sad for the person the money belonged to. 😟
@sue1954234 жыл бұрын
@@katburgess8533 Crikey, I suggest that your conscience is working in overdrive; Goodwill wouldn't be able to track the jeans either & who knows how long they sat in their store before being purchased🤪 Yes, it's a sad thing for the person who left the money in the pocket, but at the end of the day it was a lucky find for the purchaser 🙂 Why would you create extra headaches for yourself over an impossible situation that's unlikely to be resolved successfully? A little reflection to move the compass from operating in overdrive could be helpful 😉
@caryulmer70634 жыл бұрын
kat burgess Agreed. I think at least a person could call the thrift store to see if they can track the person down, they might not be able to but at least you tried. It's the right thing to do, & like you said, the person who forgot it there might need it more. My dad found an envelope on the street once with a large amount of cash & a check in it. It took a bit of work but he tracked down the owner who had lost it on a trip to Alaska. He was an elderly man who was very grateful my dad was honest. My dad was also elderly & if it had been the other way around I'd certainly be thankful someone helped my dad that way. Anyone can lose or misplace something valuable.
@caryulmer70634 жыл бұрын
Sue Kay How much work is it for you to make a phone call?😨 In this century it's really not that much work to just call the thrift store & ask. If it was your money I'm sure you'd appreciate the finder giving it back.
@katburgess85334 жыл бұрын
@@sue195423 having a conscience and concern for other human beings is not overreacting,nor shall I feel ashamed of it. The money could have been given to Goodwill then,if the person who lost it had not been found. It did not belong to the person who got it when they bought the jeans and they knew it. I have a right to my opinion, as do you. I choose to be charitable minded,at least feeling some empathy toward the anonymous human out there who lost what might have been a lot of money to them. I suggest you try it, rather than criticizing another's well intended feelings. Have a great life...

I just love your videos. My mother loved antiques, she could walk into a thrift store that would have 200 vases sitting on the shelf, that all looked very similar, and she would spot the gem in seconds. She would, also, walk through the yard and come back with ten 4-leaf clovers. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, so that we are not taken advantage of. I am hoping to get an appraisal done by you, in the future, of some of the items my mom had acquired over the years. There are some pretty amazing pieces of furniture that she bought, for practically nothing, when she and my dad bought our home. The woman that sold them the house, also, sold most of the furniture with it. As a matter of fact, every piece of furniture in the kitchen is the same as the woman who owned the house previously. My parents bought the house in 1962, for $4,000 and each piece of furniture was only about $10-$20 each. My favorite piece is an old ice box with walruses carved into it.
