42 is probably a reference to the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. As a librarian I generally recommend reading the picture books with big vocabularies to your kids and getting them started reading themselves with easy to read books, which are typically smaller in size (so easier to handle well), have smaller, but carefully chosen vocabularies and colorful illustrations to boot. They go from very easy to read to more difficult stuff and one can obviously transition from those to either regular novels or those picture books or both.

When I was growing up our church held a “From you to Me” event 4x a year. Whoever wants to participate will bring any thing they want to donate and then they are given a ticket for every piece. Each ticket is then used to “get “ a new piece. Everything is organized by size and department (Men, women’s, children and infant). When you are done shopping you go the “cashier” and they count your items and collect your tickets. Almost half of the things donated still had tags because they outgrew before being worn or they were passed down to someone who didn’t want it. 🥰🥰

You could take little nips and shorten stitches in dresses to get better fit under arm or to raise bodice at shoulder. Check with the kids and see which one(s) are interested in learning to sew and find someone to give lessons. An inexpensive sewing machine can save lots of money with clothing.

I love thrift hauls! I highly encourage you to find more local thrift stores for better prices. You may even be able to find some where it’s full a bag for $10. I love thrifting and these are definitely some favorite types of videos but I love food prep vids too

If you have a St. Vincent & DePaul nearby or Salvation Army they have lots to choose from at awesome prices. But it might be too overwhelming. If you take older kids you could shop for yourself much easier or go with your mom… ❣️ your videos are always so good!!

Hi Sarah, I've been a follower since the beginning mainly because I was looking for a Christian channel. I love you and your family. I heard you say you had stains you couldn't get out so I have a remedy for that. A five gallon bucket with boiling water and 2-3 pods of dishwasher detergent, let it melt completely and put your clothes in and let them soak. Just keep it away from the children. This worked for me, back in 1981 I had a newborn baby girl and being short on cash (poor), I frequented thrift shops. I was a breastfeeding Mom. I saw a Prarie dress in red baby rose buds that was formula stained on the dress bib and hat and it was 15.00. The woman knew I wanted it so bad so she told me about the dish washer detergent trick and she said I could return it if it didn't work. So I bought it and the trick worked beautifully and it didn't damage the fabric at all. I've used it successfully many times. I would like to ask for prayer for myself, I have been in a rehab center since 2/21 because I fell and I still can barely walk. I just wanted to ask for you and Pastor Solo and anyone in your family that feels led to, To pray for me. GBY

I absolutely love thrift shopping! I never buy new anymore and I decorate my home exclusively from thrift shops. Your friends are right though, frequent thrift trips is a must. Another tip is to not be looking for anything specific...just see what you can stumble upon. That's when I find my best items. For kids, shop multiple sizes and keep your finds stored in rubbermaid totes organized by size to shop from as they grow.

Sarah, my oldest son has dyslexia. When he was in school, reading books was very difficult for him. But he like comic books, so I would buy him comics and he developed a love for reading. Sometimes you have to find what they love to get their attention. He went from comic books to the Matt Christopher series about sports. He read them all. Books can take them on an adventure as they read. I love to read and do so daily.

If you can, find a Salvation Army store. They usually have a discount day and they have better prices otherwise.. I am not a fan of shopping AT ALL, but I do like to shop there for myself. I find excellent bargains.

Your vlog always puts me in such a good mood. I buy a lot of kids' clothes at the thrift store, and I have found a ton of dresses for myself that I love there as well. I can't justify paying a high price for brand new, name-brand kids' clothes when they will most likely ruin them playing. They usually end up being donated to someone in need or right back to the thrift store if they survive long enough to be grown out of, so it's a win-win. Those baby clothes from Walmart are so cute it almost gives me baby fever! Loved the little fashion show from everyone showing off their hauls ❤

I would like to see more of your Thrift shopping. I've been a thrift store shopping for at least 60 years. Was told by the School that my kids were the best dressed kids in school. I was a very picky shopper..I enjoy seeing what I can purchase for little money. And always get the best clothes .I didn't want my children to be ashamed of thrift store clothes . I've found the best thrift stores are the smaller ones not Goodwill, we have a local thrift store and I always go on half off days Wednesday and Saturday and usually only spend $1-$2 a piece. I only have 4 kids, but I love to find savings where I can.

Goodwill, Salvation Army, and even Once Upon a child ( its a consignment shop for kids stuff.. you can take nice gently used clothing baby things in and they'll give cash or store credit.) They are all good for bargains also if you have a "the well" thrift stores they have nice things.. we have several in our state.

I actually won’t shop for clothes in a thrift store that sorts by color instead of by size. It is absolutely overwhelming! I’m not just looking for something that is red or yellow, I’m looking for a certain size. It might make the store look pretty but it’s impossible to shop in. I grew up wearing preloved clothes. Kids grow, so fast it is hard to keep them in clothes. Adults clothes we lose or gain weight and retire so we don't need so much office wear. 😅

That was a fun video, Sarah. The kids were so excited to show what they got. We live out of thrift shops and garage sales, but I think it is likely more easy to do so with a small family. Ask your thrift shopping friends what thrift store has the best prices. Maybe you can find a store with lower prices. Btw, the hole in the dress appeared to be a seam that came apart. That's fixable. 💜

I'm not sure what they're called but you hold them in your hand and you walk around your property and when you cross over water the metal sticks. Will.
