A vast amount of clothing ends up in Ghana. It gets picked through then dumped in the ocean where it washes back onto the beaches. It's currently possible to dig 15 feet deep into the sand and still hit clothes. Ghana doesn't have the money to recycle the clothes even to produce energy.

If you have the time and the motivation, fab antiques show up in the Bins in MN. Best finds Veil of Veronica Vatican print and relic 1864. Yesterday a fellow shopper pulled out antique blacksmith tools. I found a 1950 mint and working Westinghouse toaster and incomplete stereoscope (missing cardholder)

Oh yeah, I’ve been going to the Goodwill bins for Almost a decade it’s very competitive you have to be willing to dive in and grab stuff but I found some really awesome pieces over the years books that I’ve sold for hundreds vintage dresses from the 20s mid century glassware, mid century lamps furniture it can be great sometimes

I LOVE the bins. Greatest bin find was a needlepoint handmade wool rug. It was huge & heavy so I paid about $8 for it but sold it on Mercari for over $500! Many other great finds are there if you have patience.

I do very well at the bins. What I find is lots and lots of brass, which sells very well for me, small oil paintings, and other art, such as velvet paintings, and random fun vintage things like utensils, or quilts, water and oil cans. The most profitable thing I find at the bins is also the least expensive there. Vintage and antique books! The brass and books I find there pretty much pays my booth rent every month. I am a fan!!

The frame that poor pheasant thing was in was something I would've had to grab. I use frames like that for some of my artwork. I liked the white frame the painting was in, too. I could definitely use that tool belt. OMG! I used to have one of those drama masks boxes...many centuries ago 😉🙃 I had forgotten about that thing. @@twistoffate4791 I work with oils, acrylics, watercolours, drawing pencils, charcoal, pen and ink, pastel chalks...pretty much any of the mediums. Of all of those, oils, charcoals and drawing pencils are probably my favourites with which to work.

Ah, the bins are TOTALLY my jam! You do have to dig, but I have come out with Brooks Brothers, Lord and Taylor, Neiman Marcus, and other luxury brands. I think part of it is the location of the bins and the willingness to spend the time digging. And no, stuff isn't cleaned or sorted, so putting your hands on wet or sticky substances is the norm. Gloves!!

We have an outlet near here (1/2 hour away) that is open once a week. I don’t like the crowds and people grabbing. I have found some good things, but it can get discouraging, too. I started out going every week, then every other, and now I go every few months. I never look at the clothes.

Your bins are very tame compared to the Central Arizona Goodwill bins. They are scheduled and refreshed, and you have to wait for them to allow you back on the floor. I had a teenager once describe them as a competitive sport.

Thanks George! Everybody talks about the "bins," but no one ever shows them. Now I see why, yuck! I'd dig thru them, too, though. Too bad the lavender shirt didn't fit. It was a nice color for you, but glad you found something for your meeting. Plaid is ok, but not you. Salvation Army sprays their clothes with something, a sanitizer, I suppose and you have to clean them to get the odor out. Goodwill probably does, too. Thanks for the bin education. I don't think we have those in coastal SC, just regular thrift stores, which I support. Cat

I’ve shopped the bins since my ‘kids’ ( now in their 30s) were little. At that point, fabric goods were 50 cents a piece! I only go occasionally nowadays, but it really is treasure hunting of the authentic sort… loud, messy and sometimes full of competition! Last time, I discovered someone in the back had simply dumped 50+ medical records into the mix. Sorted them out and turned them over to the staff for shredding…. Privacy nightmare, anyone?

Oh George wash that shirt before you wear it... never know what is on it.I can not shop the bins... first time I went it was garbage sitting in those bins...everything was broken dirty just disgusting...not for me...I shop the regular store but I can not get into the clothing or fabric...I look at glass pottery metal and wood items...I also look at lamps...

That's why I always wear a cut resistant glove on one hand. I use that hand to dig and move stuff around. I saw a man slice his hand wide open on the blade of a meat slicer one day, very scary.
