I am so happy that the $50 craft room desk that I found at the thrift store fits in my new crafting space! Now that the desk is in the craft room, I can start organizing. I have found some great Dollar Tree bins that work perfectly in this new space! Check out my latest craft room setup video to see how I organized using thrift store and Dollar Tree products!

I have a suggestion for the cube shelf - use baskets or cube storage baskets to put the fabric in so it doesn't look too messy! And just store the fabric in them vertical so you can see everything you have and be able to pick it out easily without making a mess
@MaineBowMama

For anyone wanting to store fabric in those cubes: wrap it around cardboard cut to size and pin it when you're done. This way you can stack it like books or files.

Suggestions: the cube unit - either turn it the tall way, hang it on the wall (above desk where frames are), or under desk (against the backwall - which I did and it doesn't really limit your knee space since you don't have your full leg length under a desk when sitting at it. Also material definitely in fabric drawers from dollar tree for a neater look. Love your use of both storage containers. I use black labeling to keep it all uniform looking but like your idea of blue to match the container lids. Definitely coming along nicely 👌 Love the "backsplash" on the desk.

I was in Dollar Tree today and picked up a flyer they had hanging from a shelf telling their customers that you can order online if they don't have the quantity you need in your store! That works for me! I recently bought the whole box of those clear rectangle boxes in the store and would have bought more if they had them. I think there were four colors in the box with about 3 or 4 of each color. A couple had badly damaged lids so I asked for a huge discount and they sold me the two damaged ones for 25 cents each. Worked for me!!! I taped the dickens out of them and they will function as well as the others. I like that even the colored boxes are very lightly colored and very see through. I don't even have them all filled yet. I also bought for $1.50 each last weekend at Diaso some containers that will hold my wood mount rubber stamps or my 8 1/2 X 11 papers and a bunch of other things. They were sturdy with a clam shell lid, I like them attached to one side so they don't fall off the table and get stepped on by the great grand kids. They also have a handle, very sturdy. I haven't even decided where to put them. Loved your video, keep them coming. :)

Wow, everything is really coming together and looking great! The only thing I would add in the cube shelf under the window are cube fabric boxes that your fabric would go into. That would really clean up the look of that area. Looks great though!

Looking pretty good, love those clear boxes you got for inside the cabinet! I have something similar but they fit a full 8.5 x 11 sheet without any of it curling up. I use them to organize my sewing notions. I find when I have fabric in bins or baskets I don't use it because I can't see it. One thing I like for smaller pieces is rolling them and tying them with a ribbon and using a fabric marker write on the ribbon the length of fabric it's tying up. No second guessing and no unrolling and rerolling. I love how you have your certificates up above the desk, looks great!

Place furniture sliders under your fabric cubes. You will be able to slide it easily if need be. Love that you are organizing your space. A thought you may want to place the closed containers on the shelves because they are uniform and place things behind the doors that are kind of messy. Love what you are doing.

I used comic book boards to put my fabric on similar to bolts of fabric. Also, some cardstock cut in appropriate size and tacked inside of plastic boxes with glue dots will make your labels pop and give uniform look.

I need to dig into my craft room! I used DT pony tail holders instead of rubber bands to put together my knitting needles; I like that they protect and don't disintegrate like rubber bands. That might work for your cricut joy materials.

Salvage a discarded storm door that has row upon row of glass louvres. Remove the glass louvres and scrap the rest. The louvres are wonderful for narrow shelving, perfect for small items in a craft room, medicine cabinet, kitchen, etc. You can get the length cut shorter if needed.

I'm sure this won't matter since it's been three years since you posted this, but a good, easy, cheap way to organize your fabric on shelves is to buy Dollar Tree foam boards and cut them into pieces that fit your shelves and wrap your fabric around them. Then you just "file" them on the shelves. Looks much better than just stacking it in piles!

If you have a closet I would hang your fabrics in there by hangers to easily go through and don't have the cube taking up too much space.
@valkyriesardo278
@valkyriesardo278 4 жыл бұрын
I prefer the closet to the cubes for fabric. After all, Closets are perfect for protecting clothing which are mostly of cloth. Fabric near a window can fade. Near a floor it can collect dust. Stacked fabric is difficult to keep tidy. On hangers it is less bulky, easier to sort, and doesn't crease. Some specialty fabrics are too delicate for hanging so those can be boxed. My mother had an entire wall of fabric stacked on shelving, but most of the stacks were boxed separately. The boxes were cut on the diagonal open at the front and top (like a magazine holder). She made clothing, theater costume, and in later years, doll dresses for the church bazaar. Her work table faced her fabric wall so she could gaze at her mountains and dream.

I love this video! Watching you organize your space inspires me. I live in a small apartment and have my supplies in my dining area (DA) and in my bedroom. I bought a tall storage unit at the Restore and it fills one wall in my DA. Two wheeled metal storage shelving units also occupy space in the DA, one in front of closet doors and the other beside my chair at the table where I craft. In the bedroom I have two 2-drawer plastic units that are glued together to make one 4-drawer tower. This area needs to be re-organized for better use. I have a lot - I mean a LOT - of 12 x 12 paper pads and about half of them are in the bedroom in plastic storage containers. Four of these containers are on top of a six unit cubby; said cubby holes pink ribbon and the other slots hold sweaters. The sweaters need to go into a drawer, so you have inspired me to pick up some good sized plastic containers at the dollar tree to organize ribbon by color. I apologize that this got so lengthy. ♥️ PS I am a brand new subscriber.

Joanns has two different sizes that are almost just like those. They are stupid expensive at full price but I just got some 50% off and then I had a 30% off my total order. The smaller version cost me about 3.50 and is perfect for 12 x 12 scrapbook paper. I only got one of the deeper ones because I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for. Hope that helps.
