Harper is so adorable! The cloak you made her is gorgeous and she really rocks it.
@lestranged8 жыл бұрын
It looks like you didn't have enough fabric to try to match the plaid on the left and right front pieces, which is a bummer. This plaid has a large repeat. If anyone makes this from scratch or with more fabric, matching the plaid on the front pieces is a really good idea.
@toBe8ere8 жыл бұрын
lestrange is it more common, unless preferred otherwise, to match the pattern perfectly when it comes to patterned clothes?
@lestranged8 жыл бұрын
If you have enough fabric, I would at least try to match the horizontal motifs (the horizontal stripes in the plaid or other pattern motifs like large flowers) so that it appears to continue smoothly across the front. The front is what people see first and notice the most. Matching the pattern at side seams is also desirable if possible. I also try to match the pattern on patch pockets , such as shirt pockets, so that they kind of meld into the bodice. When buying ready made clothes, it's often the mark of a well made piece when the pattern is matched perfectly at the seams. The larger the repeat, the more extra fabric you might need to match it, but large repeats are also the most noticeable when they are not aligned. If it's a really small pattern like gingham, you don't need to worry so much, because at a distance it looks more like a texture and you can't even see the checks.
@KatieLuvsToSing8 жыл бұрын
+Michelle Miyazato yeah why would you not if you had enough fabric?
@lestranged8 жыл бұрын
Well matched patterns can make a garment look more high end just like good finishing on the inside, etc. French seams, full linings, perfectly fitted to YOUR body instead of an 'average' body. Almost no ready made garments have the high quality details anymore (especially not garments in my price range), so when I make things I like to put those in.

About how much fabric would you need to make an adult-sized one?
@livelongandprospermary87968 жыл бұрын
Angela Hsiao would depend on size. Like she said, trace a shirt onto a paper ( wrapping paper), cut and spread and redraw the pattern. This will tell you how much fabric. Don't forget to add seam allowance.
