I know this is an older video but I just want to tell you how much you and Sue remind me of my father and I. I spent most of my growing up years visiting Yard and Estate sales with my Daddy, absorbing his knowledge as we found stuff and while he talked to others. In fact it wasn’t just my Dad but everyone I came across who had knowledge about various antiques and collectibles, as well as researching the things I loved. As an adult I started thrifting, yard saling on my own and with kids in tow as I started a family, my kids also enjoy accompanying Papa on his weekend yard sale trips. Recently I was kind of amazed to realize how much my kiddos are learning and absorbing while “picking”. My youngest is 7 and the oldest 17(both girls) with two boys stuck in the middle lol......last year my oldest came to me and asked me if she could start selling items online that she picked while out with whoever would take her. She has been phenomenally successful at it, she puts 80% of the money in savings and the rest back into picking....she wanted to save enough to insure she wouldn’t have to work her first year in college and could focus on her classes(college, books and dorm are already covered for her). She’s been so successful that she won’t have to work her entire four years in college......however she now has the bug and plans to continue her online business while in college to have “fun” money. Since noticing their sister and her venture, my other three have started to pick for resale and although they depend on Momma for listing, they all clean up and photo their own items and pack(with a little help) themselves. They are not quite so good at saving for extended time periods yet, but they are great at saving with a goal in mind(like the newest American Girl Doll or Game System) and that alone makes me so proud. It’s a great way to bond with your kiddos and for them to learn without realizing, and we have a great time comparing what we found, what it’s worth, etc.

Love the banter about the collectors plates. A friend went to a local thrift store, hurried home and called me about 9 Gone with the Wind collector plates with boxes for $9 each. Said they looked up on phone and saw they were valued at $400 for 10 and I should hurry and buy them. I carefully explained their no-value value. Lol

Hi Sue! I have been watching you and Jocelyn on this channel for a long time. However, when I was watching on my TV I could not leave any comments. Now that I have been binge watching episodes on my laptop. I am watching this one for the 2nd time. I LOVED playiing Barbies with my best friend and neighbour, Linda. (She is still one of my best friends today, so that is around 50 yrs) Back in the 60s and early 70s our Moms got together and made us a bunch of Barbie clothes. My Mom knitted and crocheted, and Linda's Mom sewed, between them they made us a ton of beautiful clothes and accessories. I realize that as a serious collector you want specific clothes for different dolls. I am the 9th of 10 children and my Mom always made occasions so special (no matter how scarce money was at the time). Now that you know all that, hopefully you will understand where this is coming from. As I watched this video and saw you rummaging through that bag of Barbie clothes and heard you say you were going to throw away the crocheted items, I held back a little gasp that had formed in my throat. I understand the homemade items are of no value to you, but what about washing them up and re-donating them. Better yet, Juliette was thrilled to sell that fish for sick kids, how about helping her and Jocelyn start a new charity. Juliette can search the thrift stores (Mom is always there anyways...LOL) she could ask Mommy to buy her Barbie knock offs etc. and they could be washed and cleaned up. It would be another way for the 3 of you to bond even more. When they are all cleaned up, and you dress them in clean clothes put them in a zippy bag and add another outfit or two for the girls to change the Barbies into. You may also find little accessories or furniture etc. along the way you could add as well. I know you and Jocelyn are both crazy busy so why not ask Jocelyns Dad, the baptist minister to announce it at his church I am sure there must be at least a couple of people who are bored (or disabled etc., like me) and would love to get involved in a project like this. If they do not sew or knit or crochet etc. maybe they could handwash Barbies and clothes, iron clothes etc. Maybe there might even be some woodworkers who could make some furniture and more. Maybe Jocelyn could even go with Juliette to the toy section and buy them some lamps....LOL or little plastic kittens, puppies and more..... Now that you have maybe 12 to 20 zippy bags of Barbies and accessories ready, drop them off at your local children's hospital for them to give out to the patients. The girls can play with them in the hospital to keep their spirits up and when they take them home it will be a GOOD memory from their hospital stay. New motto for you......Buy- Wash-Give Away- Repeat! Note: If your local hospitals will not take them because they are used, there are many other children's charities (Like Christmas gifts for underprivileged kids, children in shelters, children in care who are waiting for foster familes etc .)

I never thought for a minute you guys had a problem with your friendship. Obviously, we've missed you and Sue as a team - but here you are! I need to start taking some pictures of some of the items I have considering selling on-line. I've found some great lamps. Not long ago, I came across some lamps which are likely bed-side size lamps. They looked to be brass, but when I got them home and got ready to polish them - I never got to the unblemished brass of the lamp because someone apparently covered the whole lamp base with a varnish of sorts, and so I'm kind of stuck with them for now. Maybe I will rewire them, maybe I'll end up kicking them to the curb and not do a thing with them - take them back to where I got them (Goodwill). I don't want them for anything at our house. I do love lamps and have some great ones - not necessarily of great value, but there's some value to them. I bought two Gone with the Wind style lamps in Fenton Hobnail. I would be great at fixing some of the dings on the chalk-base lamps if the damage isn't too bad. I haven't seen anything in the way of a chalk lamp yet - but I don't get out to look as often as you guys do. I have found that some of the "antique" stores don't always know what they have. On another note, how did your first quilt end up working out for you (the one that looked like a body had been wrapped up in it). I would love to see you post that on the FB group of yours some time. Sometimes you can get stuff cleaned up pretty good.

This just made my day! What a lovely haul by the, "Dynamic Duo!" Such fun! It's always nice to see you come out with cart fulls of goodies at decent prices. I could swear I saw the match to that crazy eyed owl at our GW out here. I thought of you when I saw him, and said to myself, "I'll bet Jocelyn would grab you off the shelf!" The other day when I went, there wasn't a single thing to be had at either GW or ST. Vinnies, which was very unusual. However, I went in the next day and found a number of things, so you just never know what kind of day you will have?! One thing I wish they had out here that you seem to have a plethora of, is lampshades. Our 2nd hand stores just don't get much of anything in, in the way of lampshades, that or finials. There must be a lampshade and finial thief and hoarder out here somewhere. I don't know how else to explain it?! ha ha ha Glad you had such a good time with Sue, it's always nice to see you two out having fun. Can hardly wait for your haul video, see you then.

My grandparent's had an antique store for over 40 yrs. When, they were no longer able to pick, they started carrying new collectibles. When, they closed, we were left with over 2000 collectible plates. We couldn't get $5 ea at garage sales. So much inventory that was just trash. Additionally, we had hummels and precious moments for miles. lol I learned the lesson they left behind for sure!
