I live in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and we have a Thrifty Ice Cream here. I grew up going to the Thrifty at Woodman and Sherman Way.

I remember scoops were 15 cents! I felt like a big shot at 5 years old buying the family ice cream!

Back in the day, there used to be a Thrifty's on the north side of Ventura Blvd. near Sepulveda Blvd. in Sherman Oaks. I worked there for a while as 2nd Asst. Manager and one of my responsibilities was taking care of the ice cream counter. It's long gone now, but I can remember the line of people waiting to be served going out the door during the summer.

Now you can get it at Albertson's, Ralph's, Vons, Food 4 Less, and other grocery stores like Northgate and Superior Markets. How I do know?? My husband has worked at the plant for the last 25 years.

No more Rite-Aid stores near me, and no more Thrifty Ice Cream. Yeah, that stuff was FROZEN DOPE with that high butterfat content; two scoops and you were full & satisfied. I've had ice cream in Europe that's very similar, but never anything better in the USA.

A Gallon? they haven't sold Gallon's of Ice Cream in the US since the 80's most Ice Cream is 1.5 Qt at the most which is far less (25%) than a HALF Gallon.

I used to ride my bike to Thrifty for the Ice Cream it was 5 Cents a scoop...today Parents would get arrested for letting their kid's ride a bike a mile from home.

I think DRYER'S Chocolate Chip ice cream is very good. And for MINT Choc Chips, .NOT that CRAPPY White Mint Safeway [Lucerne]/ Vons black carton Crap - bleh.
