What a beautiful haul! I especially love the Moda fabrics. Red work and blue work are just about my favorites. The adorable paper doll dresses remind me of the hours my sister and I spent cutting out paper dolls and clothes when we were very young. Thanks for sharing!

Such lovely fabrics and bits and bobs. Aww those buttons looked lovely. My oh my the last trim bag how interesting. So many beautiful fabrics. Aww butterfly needle book! Such a great idea and yes would be wonderful. Have a lovely weekend. Me I know it will be quite, one of our passes has a massive rock fall on so we are cut of, aww I see bread making in my future so much fun especially when the fire is going. I got a big bag of fabrics the other day and ekk talk about wonderful so going to do a little ironing today, is already sorted into colours as when I hung it after washing I placed in colour mode so much fun. Well must be of little house work but or ironing and then I can sew for the day, yep me relaxing by fire, cat has already claimed the best position gotta love these quite wet days.

Hope the rock fall has been cleared now. Your weekend plans sounded perfect - love the smell of bread baking and what fun curating your fabric stash. Hope you’re having a wonderful week too. Travers the dog is snoozing on my lap on the couch while I stare out the windows here on holidays and look at the parrots landing in the trees. Cheers, Christine

Hi Christine 👋, you got some really gorgeous fabrics there!. I've heard about the multiple layers of fabrics, but have not had the chance to see in person. I am jealous of the beautiful toiles you found. I can't wait to see you using all these lovelies. I know it'll be fantastic whatever you decide to make. TFS 😊

Thanks Kim - it’s my first time with quilts with multiple layers too - I’m torn between looking under the layers or leaving them as is. Cheers, Christine

That’s fascinating- the different layers of quilting fabric is for additional warmth, I guess? Or just to update designs? (The old English Paper Piecing quilts here were formed using old personal letters folded into hexagons - the unfinished quilts are another slice of archaeology!) Beautiful finds there! The bird and flower design is especially gorgeous. I hope your drawing workshop gives you a bit more confidence in your creative skills. And of course I hope it’s fun too!

It looks like the fabric was probably covered over due to wear but the outer layers are definitely brighter and prettier designs than the more utilitarian fabrics below from what I’ve seen so far. Cheers, Christine 💙🪡🧵

I'm ready to do the slow-stitch, sewing inspired book with haberdashery!! I have a huge collection of things for such a book, but no incentive to do it. I would love to do it with you!

Hi Robin - I’m wondering if we might end up with a theme like sewing for a future Roxy project…if not, I’ll be sure to make a project once I’ve finished off some others that are still works in progress. Cheers, Christine

It's very sad to think that 50 to 100 years from now, people will not be able to look back at today's fast fashion creations like we look back at make-do quilts. The crappy stuff bought now from big box stores will end up in landfills by the next 'season' and plowed to oblivion. There aren't even any fabric feed sacks anymore because all the sacks are made out of plastic - which WILL be around 100 years from now. (BTW, have you ever tried a sashiko thimble? I want to make one and I think I'd actually use it because I don't use the fingertip thimbles either.)
@createandcraftwithchristine2 ай бұрын
I definitely agree Joy. Fast fashion’s only legacy is unfortunately a negative environmental legacy. In the last 5 or so years I have only bought 2 dresses - both from quality fabrics and well made that will pass the test of time. As I get older I prefer to just wear what I have. I’ll need to research sashiko thimbles 💙🧵🪡
