AMEN?! for these Black and White Classics... back then the acting was SPOT ON! and ladies who else besides me are drooling over the fashions?! Back then women didn't leave the house looking like they were whooped by a nightmare... every strand of hair was in place...it was nothing to don a hat and fur stole, gloves, handkerchief and fragrance etc.... back then women were real women and femininity was 24/7... and men seemed to appreciate us more... i value the lessons my grandmother taught me and i use them today... these BLACK & WHITES hold such treasured memories. Thanks for the awesome upload... it was so SPOT ON! JOLLY WELL DONE!

I know we are watching these movies for free, but considering they are over 60 years old their good acting with long dialogues is appreciated, these days actors say 2 lines and they have to cut to a different take. God knows how many times they have to repeat scenes cause they cannot hold a conversation for longer than 2-3 lines.

iT's really not the actors. When movies first became profitable iT was gravy work for actors and there was an industry hiding how shallow they were as people, while all the people working behind the scenes, building the clouds to float the actors, started getting better at what they did and wanted more credit and more money, as all the while the population expanded and there was more and more competition and less and less time to get product out. Nowadays people want to go to Mars, not watch black and white movies kept in check in a static thirty year box. Just sayin'. I like a lot of these movies.

Not putting down the actors of today or those who are still with us but let's face it....the actors & movies of the 40s & 50s way outshine today's quality of movie making. There will never be actors again like Charlton Heston, Robert Mitchum, James Stewart, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck just to name a few or these much older actors which are inspiring to watch. This is when movies were movies & actors were really convincing & the storylines were excellent & interesting. Sadly, Hollywood is now lacking what it once had. Born Lois Obee in Yorkshire, England, Sonia Dresdel (1909 - 1976) was a prominent stage actress who sprang to stardom for her performance in the play Hedda Gabler in 1942 and she made her first film in 1947, The World Owes Me A Living. Now sadly long forgotten, she was an immediate hit and quickly established herself not just as a stage actress but also as a film star making hit movies in films such as While I Live, also in 1947. She had a long film career with her last movie being Last of the Long Haired boys in 1968 which she switched entirely to a TV career with her final performance being in The Pallisers, a TV mini-series in 1974. She also moved into theatre directing and another successful career.

The directing in this film was top quality. I felt transferred from my home to the best seat at a live theatre performance. Superb acting. Although I’m ‘older’, I only recognized one actor…going to do some research to learn more about the cast.

Thanks for this upload. I thought I would give it a try even though I was expecting to quit after about 10 minutes. I am glad that I gave it a try because I watched it from start to finish and did not once think of quitting. It is a pity that movies like this are usually only of interest to film buffs and seniors.

OK-never saw THAT coming-until about ten minutes left when (no spoiler alert) something that should have happened, didn't happen, lol. THANKS for finding and uploading this jeel of a whodunnit. Even after you think you KNOW "whodunnit" for the third time, you're probably wrong! LOL.

Wow!!!!! What a marvelous movie, just wonderful and the woman who played the leading female role, Sonia Dresdel, was fascinating. Everyone was very good in the film but she really drew me in with her character. Thank you for posting this fine movie. We lost a lot in the ensuing years in terms of acting, scripts and movie plots/ideas. Now, it's only vulgarity, disgusting content and lack of originality.

What an amazing film, I didn't expect that ending. Most films now are so easy to see through, I can usually guess what is going to happen , they all seem to follow a particular agenda. What happened to natural talent? Everything seems to be devolving. Thanks for posting another great film.

The triple twist. So many pleasurable small moments in this film. The gin joint bar. The gorgeous clothes. The beautiful voices. The Strtatocruiser. Foggy London. It’s best watched twice to observe the unraveling of the characters.

The 'posters' couldn't give a damn what it's about, let alone summarise it. It's all about 'clicks'. They'd show a black screen with just the sound of a moose 'farting', if they thought they could make money from it.

Best era for films. This period, and onwards was so atmospheric with the actors as well. British films were the best, and still remain so. It is a pity that the British parliament attacked the industry, destroyed it, as with all things British.

Have I missed something - Cowley was bashed with the statue by one person and then later shot by another? And the team of mice making the background noise adds extra character to the viewing experience.

That's what I was wondering tool. It seemed he was bashed in the head,, but we didn't see it happen so, maybe his favorite antiques were destroyed instead. (Or, less likely, maybe Cowley was dreaming it, or it was an alternative ending.)
