people don't understand that the love and affection Michael had towards kids is the same way that a father or mother would care about and feel for their child. its almost as if Michael saw himself as a father to all children, and thus he treated them that way. I think the lack of love that Joe Jackson showed MJ his entire life made Michael really want to make kids feel loved & appreciated the way he never was. the guy really cared about the future of children and our world. he really tried to make the world a better place & he achieved it. miss you so much MJ, the world needs a gentle kind man like you. I also agree that his childhood and the lack of love from his father played a role in Michael feeling so strongly that children (all children) needed a lot of love and affection and he gave it every chance he had. You actually nailed it. MJ has verbally said that he feels all children of the world are our responsibility. He did see himself as somewhat of a father to all children, no matter their race, illness, disability or gender. The stories of his generosity and charitable acts, not just monetary wise, but in his personal actions are very telling of what was in his heart. You're also on point that the lack of affection from Joseph is what fueled his empathy for kids. In that horrendous Bashir "documentary", Michael speculated that if his father had been kinder to him that he might not have had the affection for children like he did. All he wanted was to just give children what he never had. It's very sad that his sensitivity and kindness was turned against him and used to rip him to shreds.

Am I the only one who was heartbroken when he asked when Halloween was because he said he had never been trick or treating? I get that he was raised as a jehovah's witness but it just goes to show you how much he really missed out on having a childhood. If you can't understand that and see that he clings to children so much because he felt he connected with them as well as the fact that he was trying to sort of live through them than you have a serious problem.

I know his pain from what I've been through; I've always been different & always had trouble making friends, I'm quiet, shy, introverted and get anxious around (other) adults (I'm 28) cos I've been through a lot of abuse from school, friends, family ect so I have always trusted, respected and loved children more. I'm also a huge geek and love stuff that adults say is childish. So when I hear hate for Micheal it really hurts me both because I care and cos I'm like that to. But I just love him for being so strong and passionate and never losing himself despite all the hate and prejudice, its so inspiring to me. He's the perfect example of what one selfless, genuine person can do for the world, and being shy, quiet and young at heart will not hold you back as long as you've got the passion and drive!

People who don't understand Michael Jackson or his nuances should probably not comment. For one thing, people equating kissing with only romantic/sexual love need to develop a better understanding of how love and affection can actually work for different people and different relationships. Michael's love for children and the affection he directed towards them, physical or otherwise, was *completely* innocent and platonic. I find it strange that people would seek to sexualize it when it's obvious that Michael himself is not a very sexualized creature and he never sought to make that a part of his image - unlike so many other rock/pop stars in the industry who make sex their shtick and key selling point. Michael was also put on the spot here with this child, and therefore he was probably encouraged, both intrinsically and extrinsically, to be as affectionate to this kid as he could. He just wanted to be and appear as sweet as possible to this child, so he may have overcompensated a bit - I don't think he was "crossing boundaries" as some have suggested here. Michael Jackson, as he is, just being himself without any pressures, was undoubtedly one of the most harmless people you could have ever come across. I don't sense some dark presence lurking beyond closed doors. It's laughable to me for anyone to suggest they sense danger from him - *bullshit*. And comparing him to a standard set by the stereotypical role of a man is also ridiculous, and it has nothing at all to do with him being famous. He did not conform to any gender roles - the kind that dictate men should be aggressive and disinterested in kids. I think he was the perfect union of masculine and feminine concepts into one person, one spirit. To compare his behaviors to those of your typical guy is just absurd.

Apparently people do not realize that Michael Jackson was ALWAYS extremely physically affectionate. He was always hugging or kissing somebody or holding their hands - male and female - young and old. Just watch KZbin footage of him through the years. And his family was very affectionate. Also he knew this little girl's family. He is just being himself with her and it is so sweet. ann landers I wouldn't say his image was "extremely sexual" at all - I'd place such a sticker on Prince, or current day Rihanna or Nicki Minaj. Some crotch grabbing and hip moments doesn't equate to that. I'd say he was certainly sensuous, but not in a way that communicated overt sex. I believe that is a big part of why he was so popular and cherished. When he performed, it wasn't based around sex, but just organic, natural movement that felt right (and some less organic stuff like the robot, lol). I think it's awkward when people try so hard to be sexy, and he didn't do that. He didn't make a point of banally selling sex like Madonna, and he sang songs that were clean and appropriate for all audiences. He was a compelling composition of both sensual and innocent characteristics, and it worked very well for him.

The thing about children is that they are generally good judges of character. If a kid is very uncomfortable with someone, you should question why. And if kids are not okay being touched by someone they don't really know, they will just come right out and say it or show it. I've spent an incredible amount of time working with children, so I've picked up on a few things. The little girl he's holding and smooching is absolutely at ease with him doing so, like he's a family member she's known for years. I assume she hasn't known him for very long, so this should speak volumes as to how she feels about him. In fact, watching him with other kids shows much the same thing. You can't act that kind of comfort very well around someone at those ages. Also, were this Janet smooching the girl, no one would bat an eye, because apparently only women are allowed to be nurturing and affectionate with children... -_-

The first half of this is amazing. It's so nice see Michael again :) And I loved where he was kidding around and having fun. The middle with the little girl is so sad... he never went trick-or-treating for Halloween, amongst all the other things he missed out on because of his selfish parents :( It's so sad that Michael never got to be a kid, and always regretted that--rightly so, and had the adult responsibility of supporting his greedy family :( Michael deserves some peace and I hope he is happy now in the great beyond

All of this took place between August 1991 and October 1991, which is why they were probably referencing Halloween at 8:30. It actually took an estimated 3 month from start to finish, after final touches and mixing Black or White was done in February 1991. He was pretty much shuttling from the recording studio to BorW sets, which is why the album was finished so late.

I don't understand what is so weird about him kissing that little girl on the cheeks? Even tho I am a lady, I kiss little kids on the forehead and cheek all the time. I do believe that Michael had a very diff mentality, I don't think he was as sexual and paranoid as most people which is why he was always so care free with children. xxmichael jacksonxx No I think Michael loved kids because most kids are LOVABLE. They are usually innocent, sweet, creative, non-judgmental and loving. Also in Michael's case they were the only ones who didn't care that he was "Michael Jackson the Superstar". He could actually be himself around them. No judgement. No betrayal. Just plain loving fun. Even those kids who accused him (Chandler and Arvizo) -- it was the parents who started it all. I don't think "not having a childhood" was the biggest reason. By the way, I love children and I totally understand why Michael loved being around them. They are nicer and more fun and interesting than most adults. And I am NOT a child molester!!!!
