It's such a privilege when a huge creature like that chooses to come and interact with us. I have experienced this three times now and it never fails to move me to tears. WONDERFUL!

They have great awareness of their body size, if they didn't it would be unsafe to be so close, give them some credit they are much more intelligent than you think.

So awesome to be there,talk about humbling. I was in active pass cutting up kelp for the sea urchins & an Orca swam right up to me and looked me in the eye, about 40 under. I could have died & been happy then & there.

There should be some whale information going out to boat owners in these parts of the world. For example.... No need to be afraid. It is extremely rare that a whale even touches a boat. They are big but they have total control of every inch of their body. They know exactly where they have themselves. A humpback whale can come up a centimetre from a boat, knowing full well how close it is. People in boats, who do not know better, might get scared and turn on the prop and thus startling the whale etc. Secondly, it would be good if people knew when it's alright to approach the whales and when not. Stuff like that which would make it easier in the contact with these incredible and beautiful beings of the depths.

I've seen a video of a humpback taking out a kayak, it can definitely happen
@cyprescrow4 жыл бұрын
@@kamalmanzukie Yes, of course it can. It can so happen that one gets a punch in the face while walking down the street too. Or one might get rammed by a car while out driving. The world is not a bullet proof place. Anything can happen. And especially when we enter the domain of other species. We are always very black or white in how we view and judge other species behaviour. Whales and dolphins are intelligent but also very emotional beings, just as we are. Occasionally we will come across one who is in a bad mood that day. The way we have treated them, and their realm, I am surprised that they simply just don't kill every human that jumps in the water. But they don't. In fact they never do that.
@k.d.56032 жыл бұрын
@@cyprescrow Agreed! And I've seen a number of people in boats seem to understand the whales are being gentle and are completely in control of every inch of their body and know exactly how much space they're taking up but definitely get confused about why they may sometimes rub up against the boat. It seems like they're knowledgeable only up to a certain point. We definitely don't want people starting engines while our friends are just rubbing off barnacles. And what a privilege it would be to be in that boat! Sure, it may be startling and even scary but they're just using our boat to serve an important need and that should be seen as a wildly amazing privilege!

I don't know why, but seeing the dog's head next to the whale's REALLY put into perspective just how friggin' HUGE these things are. Not the boat. Not the people in the boat. The dog. Still an awesome video! You guys were SUPER lucky!
