Nitro Nori. The greatest champion that never was. I was gutted in the year that he lost out to Spies. I sort of still hold it against Rea wiping him out twice in that season. Although to be fair Spies got a good skittling by someone as well, Fabrizio iirc. I so wanted Haga to win a championship and that season was so so close. Was it 2009?

@@tomekzxr some say Rea has BEEN ThE #1 in the history of SBK through its 32 seasons....but i think Spies did some Sort of a prowess when she won at First attempt the tittle, not knowing ThE circuits, with not the best bike, new Life style in América...however he dominated ThE Championship , winning 50% of ThE races....(something like Roberts or Spencer) ...later, I think he had very bad luck in his MGP years....injuries made him retire young. In My (humble) opinión, there were some super pilots in this Championship Who could have made It big un MGP: -POLEN -FOGARTY -BAYLISS -SPIES (the two late at least tasted the victory)

@@rapid13 then it should be called something else. In formula1 they give small lessons about the technology going into some of the cars. I would love for Ducati to give us their reason on why they thought the v-twin was the engine to go with. The races seemed almost like a pitchers duel in baseball. Every little thing made a difference. After years of development, we have got to a point where the bikes are a little further apart. The characteristics have shown themselves and the bikes do not seem as equal as they used to be.
@rapid134 жыл бұрын
@@rmv4646 The big twins put the power down differently. More easily manipulated. I think Sport Rider did a piece on this way back when. But Peak HP was down with equal displacement. Not 100% sure why.
@rmv46464 жыл бұрын
@@rapid13 the characteristics of a V-twin make it so that it does not breathe as efficiently as a four. Therefore, they need more CC to do the same work. This is one of the reasons why their gas mileage is so terrible also. The pistons travel a greater distance which is why they generate more torque. For many years, they were bad on tires also.

The only advantage Ducati had was Foggy and Corser. Kocinski showed that the twins weren't unbeatable.
@ovelesha4 жыл бұрын
@@rapid13 Mmmm Ducati pretty much dominated throughout the 90's and yes they did have a massive advantage. Fred Merkel won in 88 and 89 on an RC30. Then the 851 came out, followed by the 888 when Honda was still running the RC30, Yamaha the owo1 which were now very long in the tooth and Kawasaki the zxr750h1 then h2 which never cut the mustard. Then the 916 came out which if that didn't have a massive advantage I'll eat my underpants. Then thoughtout the 90's the 996 & 998 Ducatis came out whilst Kawasaki were running Zx7r's, Yamaha yzf750's, Suzuki Srad750's. Honda made a massive effort with the RC45 and Yamaha with the R7 BUT they didn't cut it and Yes John Kosinski won on the Rc45 but apart from that year Ducati did have a massive advantage and you seem to forget Foggy couldn't ride the Rc45 and went straight back to Ducati. And remember Edwards won his two championships in the early two thousands after that when Honda brought out the SP1 & SP2 which were litre bikes not 750's that Ducati DID have a massive advantage over up until then due to engine size and oh yeah the championship was owned and run by Italians so not many restrictions to make it fairer 👍👍
@rapid134 жыл бұрын
@@ovelesha I remember all of that quite well. Notice the running theme: Ducati updated and innovated while others rested on their laurels. Flyin' Fred won the first 2 seasons before Ducati figured out that this was the way back to relevance. Ducati also had Roche and Polen and Foggy and Corser and they lost to racers of exceptional talent in Russell (who went to GPs) and Johnny K (also to GPs). The advantage was more in the people than in the bikes. Foggy failed on the RC45 because he had so completely adapted to the twin. If Ducati had such a huge bike advantage, why weren't they dominating AMA Superbikes? Because Polen and Corser moved on to WSBK.
