As a Malaysian for me it is a QF with mixed emotions with joy of Malaysia made it to SF after 8 years, but at the same time a tinge of sadness of Momota unable to play on his last Thomas Cup with his team went out. Kodai absence was clearly felt by Japan but the spirits shown by the Malaysian players paid off eventually ending three previous straight editions disappointment. MOTD - LJH with his confidence and morale recovery booster after painful loss from Chia and Soh earlier.

In the QF Malaysia is the weakest , it's Japan who didnt capitalize to drag Malaysia until 3rd MS. Going into the quarter finals is a given but to the semifinal is something to behold. While LZJ performance was super but when our lead double fell, I thought that's it, cos our doubles performance is like the famous quotes from the movie Forest Gum " live is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you get" of course until you eat it. Fortunately, the piece of chocolate was a gem. Joon How performance was expected to fizzle out under such pressure as he did earlier. He surprised me with that solid performance. His win gave hope and inspiration to the second doubles. Kudos to them. For now the team should enjoy what they can, comes semifinal, it's a different level.

LZJ beating Nishimoto was no surprise but what surprised me was the margin. In the 2nd single, Watanabe was totally out of form probably due to failure to cope with the pressure -- bearing in mind he had a convincing win over Li Chun yi . The 2nd double revealed that the Japanese pair was outclassed in terms of speed and net control... Anyway, see some promising players from Malaysia but the prospect for Japan was dim given the next generation still to come up.

Also, Naraoka might have Momota's speed and accuracy, and maybe his temperament, but he doesn't have the power that Momota did in his prime. Momota used to play the percentages, but when he wanted it, he had more weight of shot and variety.
