With good mental and tactical advice, those kinds of comebacks happened! This is what I love about ping. Thank you for the video! Mari has a great forehand top spin which she can make really spinny which is not often the case with long pips players. I found she won many points turning around it but lost too many in the first two games doing it not fast enough lacking space.
@Blackain666 ай бұрын
Well at that level ofc she has to be able to attack well too, it would be too cheap to just force errors with the pips. That said the longpips disruptive play and killing the easy balls with the forehand like Manika Batra is very effective and very hard to play against even on the top level, so i pity that swedish girl who is playing very well but has an uphill battle against her.

craig I absolutely ****ing love this content. I'm a pips player myself (though more of a chopper) so I feel Mari's pain with the missed pips points etc but she's great to watch, so refreshing and interesting, especially in the young women's game loved your coaching, loved her mental attitude, love the formatting of the video etc. A++++++++ would view again

Cracking insight and thanks for sharing Craig... although when it comes to orthadox rubbers vs long pips, i'm always rooting for the side of the orthadox rubbers.... perhaps because it's hard work against very good exponents like Mari ... btw i agree with the comment on the serve ...it's definately illegal.
@sambailey99493 ай бұрын
this is really good mate, she's using the pips well now, I'm using grass dress ox green too now its as good as any. It's very much a case of like you were coaching in the match....have to vary much more and keep mixing it up. Its great to see someone using the pips in this way, so much more on offer than chopping or blocking, have to keep the aggression and forward motion on all the shots to get anything out of them on these plastic balls. I started using them after watching Liu Song play at ormesby about 8 years ago, when used sparingly you can setup your forehand a lot etc, obviously need a strong forehand bias game too.
@TheTableTennisServiceGuy3 ай бұрын
Absolutely, they are a weapon. You have to use them aggressively to when the opportunity arises. Liu Song, wow. That’s a name from the past, what a tricky player!

I was hoping to see incredible intels on the opponents’ weakness or a complete strategy change instead of just “be more consistent and change a little but here and there”. That’s kinda automatic during play or at least on every player’s mind.
@Hus9516 ай бұрын
I understand what you're saying. In this situation, being steady and consistent was good advice. The Swedish player lacked power on the backhand side, so maintaining consistency was sufficient. Sometimes, consistency is key to winning, especially against weaker opponents. However, when facing stronger players, taking more risks and potentially being less consistent might be necessary to compete effectively. It just depends on the situation.
