I enjoyed this presentation. My daughter was just diagnosed with narcolepsy this year. Praying for all who stuggle with this condition and hoping that there will be a cure some day.

I have a friend and she has cataplexy also. She will fall asleep standing up. She also will eat at night and not know it. She has gained a lot of weight. I'm so sad for her. She is very active and really gets frustrated because she cannot drive now. Her meds are so expensive. She is only taking one right now because of the expense. She was on both due to a grant by the company for 2 years. She did much better. Now with the one prescription she seems really worse. We don't have any narcolepsy doctors in Texas. It is sad to go through what she go through.

Awesome information!!! My identical twin sister and I were both diagnosed with narcolepsy in the past couple of years that was thought to be triggered by influenza. We both tested positive for the narcolepsy gene as well. We are both physicians and it is an ordeal trying to get through the day (especially the afternoon) without needing to nap. Getting charts closed on time is a nightmare. Nighttime sleep is fragmented and very much action packed with vivid dreams all night long. I dream during short naps as well. Treatment can help those afflicted manage symptoms and live somewhat of a normal life. The good thing about this is that it has helped me recognize sleep disorders in others and get them the help they need. I have seen way too many patients misdiagnosed as having primarily depression as the cause for symptoms. Excellent information, we definitely need to spread more awareness!

I wish, wish, wish you were my doctor. One of the hardest things about having narcolepsy is finding an educated doctor who is willing to walk this walk with me. I want to work and function and be active and have productive relationships but I only get to do 1/3 of these things because I am out of spoons. I work, therefore I don't have energy for friends and family. I maintain a relationship with my husband and one of my adult children. The rest falls to the wayside. I literally work and sleep. Doctors only want to prescribe daytime meds which make me feel anxious and exhausted and strung out. I am in REM 14-16 hours a day, honestly!
