My 1981 Model 70 7mm Win Mag looked like this before I re-barreled it a few months ago. When you are kids you don't think about how many rounds in a row you shoot. My barrel had gotten so hot the steel in the chamber-bore area was rainbow colored and it would only shoot flat base bullets. Took it of and it went in the trash.

I bet that barrel would look 100% better if you ran a tube of Iosso through it. Looks like its never been cleaned

Good day. Where are you from? I understood your English 100%. The video is for a 270 Weatherby Magnum. It is an "old" rifle inherited by it's current owner. Therefore not sure about the number of shots. Often (maybe always) fast shooting barrels don't last very long = around 1,000 accurate shots? It actually shoots surprisingly well, considering the barrel condition. Groups are around 1.5MOA to 2.5MOA. But I think the barrel will deteriorate faster & faster now.

I have several barrel in observation. For example, a 338LM caliber barrel, I shot around 2000. The rifle continues to shoot 0.5 MOA or less (sometimes) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWPNZGuqnNSriMU

@@radon41k It is unbelievable that a barrel in the condition of your 338LM can still shoot 0.5MOA. The 270 Weatherby Magnum in my video also shoots 0.5MOA sometimes, not always, + often delivers some "flyers". That is the main problem, the shot placement becomes erratic and unpredictable = not the best for accurate grouping/shooting. Like all things in life, a barrel also reaches it's end of life.

Wow. I would not have guessed either of those guns would shoot .5. Apparently as long as the last half of the rifling are ok… These days, though, a high quality new barrel can be pretty affordable.

Ek dog n loop skiet uit voor en agter, maar hier is die voorkant (punt van die loop) nog mooi, terwyl agterkant (kamer) se groewe heeltemaal weggeskiet is? So ek neem aan dis n ou vrou storie dat n loop aan altwee kante begin wegsluit?

Die lope wat moeg (klaar geskiet is), wat ek tot dusver gesien het, het altyd groter skade nader aan die kamer as andersom. Sien wel lope waarvan die kroon beskadig is. Weens nalatigheid (verkeerde skoonmaak metode), en soms ook weens/tydens die sny van skroefdraad vir 'n knaldemper.

Approximately how much of the barrel would you chop to bring it back to full accuracy potential?

I don't think it will be worth the effort or money to do any work to this barrel. At least 1/3 to 1/2 of the barrel will need to be removed, and then I am not sure how long it will shoot anyway, at least not to a decent velocity. Even if it feels bad, I think we should just accept that barrels do wear out and need to be replaced at some stage.
