Throne and Liberty: A Warning for Casual Gamers - My Review

In this video I give my thoughts and opinions on the new MMORPG Throne and Liberty. Throne and Liberty is one of the most beautiful visual games I have played in a long time, but has underlying issues that ward off the casual gamer.

This game is dope. It’s a lot of fun and the systems make sense. You can go as fast or slow as you want. I encourage people to okay and come up with your own opinion. It’s fun which is hard to say about a lot of mmo’s. It’s different from the top 5 MMOs which haven’t changed in 10 years. We needed this game for a stale genre. We needed a different spice.

I didn't like thornes at first when a friend introduced the game to me, but after rushing through the story and getting to level 50, I found it really interesting specially the gear system, trait system and ways to farm, I really like all the activities that you have to acquire gear and materials, so for me the game started after reaching 50 and understanding those systems (About 8 hours).

I feel like you need to spend more time researching and playing the game before you offer an opinion to the masses. So let’s go through your issues: #1 you can get to level 30 before you have to invest heavily in leveling any weapons or skills. During that time you can try out any of the weapon combinations in the game. If you still don’t like the weapons you pick after hitting 50, you can level a 3rd weapon easily and not hinder your build much. Alternatively, if you focus only on story missions, you can level an alt in 6-7 hours to level 50…#2 there are only 3 times in the game where you will need to do side quests/codex entries to level up for the story. Again, even with this requirement you can hit 50 in 6-7 hours. #3 the game literally tells you that you will need the world leaves so that your Amatoi can passively heal you. They are cheap, they take up one inventory slot, just buy a few thousand and forget about it. #4 again, only takes 6-7 hours to reach level 50, not 100. Combat also becomes a lot better if you take the time to look through settings and go to the targeting section… this just shows laziness. You didn’t even take the time to explore settings and try to alter things to make combat better. #5 morph stamina only depletes while you are in combat (meaning a mob has agro on you). If you do not have agro on a mob, it does not deplete. You can run forever if you never draw agro from a mob. Again, laziness. #6 can’t argue with the grapple though, it does suck and fucks up a lot #7 you do not have to spend a single penny on anything in this game. I am entirely free to play and I have 15,000 lucent already. All you have to do is spend 6-7 hours to get to level 50 then farm high level content. Then you get sell things to the people who do want to pay. This is the worst take of all and I hate seeing people complain about pay to win. Just do some research and learn how to use the in-game systems to progress for free. Sure, the whales can spend money to get gear, but I am the one they are giving that money to. Then I take that money and use it to buy all the stuff I want…

Thank you for taking the time to compile your thoughts! I do appreciate the feedback. I think your first point gets to a main trend of the video in that would I loved to have put extensive hours into the game before compiling my review. I understand there could have been more content that I enjoyed, but unfortunately my reality was that I didn't enjoy it enough to continue to that point which I did mention at the end of the video. I also wanted to touch on the last point you made about pay to win and me complaining about it. At no point did I talk about how broken the system was or that free to play players cannot have fun in the game. I simply stated that I prefer when games do not offer a payment system other than cosmetics which again, is just my opinion. I understand that some people like yourself really enjoy Throne and I am super glad that is the case. This video was just my experience and views on my time playing and I understand that others may not share the same opinion. Use exp food while you quest, the game gives it to you and easy to cook. Softens the walls, and the exploration is an easy way to jump ahead. Def not wrong tho, casual gamers or new to an mmo and you will struggle like this guy is. Not a game that holds your hand for sure

I agree with most. Pay to win is what ultimately got me to uninstall that and how damn hard it is to try everything. And then switch. I started out longbow crossbow and then wanted to switch to longbow dagger. I had to look up a damn KZbin video to learn how to do it then found out I didn't have the necessary items. I uninstalled last night. Looking forward to new world Aeternum. Loved new world but it was released busted. If it is fixed with this new release it will become my MMORPG forever home.

I completely agree about New World! I was so disappointed that it was released early and clearly wasn't ready for the public yet. I loved the combat system in that game and will for sure be checking out Aeternum!

Agree with your review except on one thing: you mention the target system but then complain its hard to target... you should be using classic targeting then. Also, that system is there to help healers and ranged dps, the action system is for melee dps. The 2 biggest things i dislike in the game and ended up being the reasons i quit are: a) the difficulty of the dungeon bosses... its insane how hard and mechanic driven those bosses are!!! and b) the open-pvp in a world boss zone. As a concept, it makes no sense why they would make the choice to allow open-pvp without consequences, when a world boss spawns.

I agree with your dislikes. I felt the blocking registration was inconsistent in some of the dungeons which would result in an instant death from some of the bosses. I also found it annoying the open PvP especially when the zone was right where I was trying to quest. My point around classic targeting was more around losing track of which unit I was on in larger mobs. Even in classic, I would lose the triangle indicator when there were multiple enemies getting in my face.

​@@Aidan_Plays_Games 1- the blocking system is awful 2- the fact you cant go back to the fight if you die put an huge weight on the group when you PUG 3- the amount of "group wipe" mechanics 4- the cooldowns on healing skills Everything about the games dungeon system is awful. Oh and not to mention that not everyone in the group gets a drop item! Considering these dungeons are the end game, that made me quit.

@MagnaRads I am excited to test out the New World expansion that drops in a week. Historically, I have enjoyed WoW which gives you the choice of retail (easier and more content) or classic (original game and harder). I would recommend either of those if you haven't played them before! I have heard really good feedback on the latest expansion!

ppl who "swipe"(p2w) can get Epic items +9 +MAXED Traits in less then 10 sec.... ( thats best what u can get in game) where person who DONT PAY anything(f2p) to get full set of epic +9 +MAXED traits... it will take months...... if not years.... soo yeah... game is actualy prety good but p2w is HORRIBLE !!!! bttw. this is PVP game........... with p2w that u can buy all upgrades for items that are in game for $$ ....

Fall damage is pissing me off, it seems like you take damage for the smallest falls. I damn near rage quit yesterday because i was trying to jump and glide as a bird and it kept turning to a wolf and falling to my death. I watched multiple other people having the same issue and it was absolutely infuriating to the point I had to walk away... FWIW it was in the desert area that you have to glide to the top of the tower to unlock the waystone, I was attempting to jump from the building with the dome on it.

If you find yourself falling and need to avoid damage, just press Q (block) before you land. It will negate all damage.

Your first gripe was paying and your last gripe was paying and your other gripes are personal. 4/10 makes no sense but it’s just you. I played for 30 hours im at level 30 but like most MMOs up to level 50 is one bit tutorial or did you miss that part of “most MMOs” plus you kept saying “most MMOs while only naming 2 and I can think of at least 4 MMOs that can compare such as BDO and ff14. I agree with your take on morphing but it’s not a job it’s a game so it’s not a big deal to me. Good try tho

Solid no bs review. I feel like you could of shared your thoughts about gear/skill upgrade systems tho since that's a big part of the leveling experience and can be quite off putting for new players cause of how confusing it can be

I totally agree with this. They could have done a better job explaining how things work. I think they took the approach assuming most of the player base had previous MMO experience and would catch on quickly to that system. Again, not super friendly to new players.

you can't be casual in that game, you need a hardcore guild and spend at least 5 hours of ONLY doing stuff for the guild.... ROFL! most toxic game i have stumbled on... besides that when you laugh in game its the sound of a woman laughter, so if you think you are going to have any peace playing this game, forget it!!!

It takes 30h to get to lvl 50. You didnt reach the lvl30 skillswap reward since you said there is no classchange option. Which there is, you get a bunch free. 30h is not a sweat speedrun time too. Where did most of Our time go?

@@SaneAlbion yes it is possible but i wanted to be fair, 10h is hard to ask from new players and doing it in 10h is not enjoyable to the average person. 30h is not an extreme expectation tho

this is such a bad take on the game. all the negatives you mentioned like the combat system are adjustible in the settings. the pay to win factor is also reachable without paying. and lastly not being able to reach end game or lvl 50 is just because you dont know what mmo's used to be like. im lvl 35 within 10 hours of playing. in lineage 2 it took a me a year to reach lvl 52 and in aion and bdo it took me untill the next expantion (almost 6 months)

tbf he is a casual gamer. This video is like my 72 year old uncle playing a game. No attention to any settings or adjustments or learning mechanics. Takes the time to make a video but not to actually PLAY the game

I don't understand the argument against switching class; in other mmos with traditional classes you can't switch classes at all. You're not punished for trying different weapons any more than you're "punished" in other mmos for creating multiple characters with different classes. the small heal using tree leaves is just to keep you in the action without relying on potions, skills and such. which also adds to the many small money sinks all mmos have. A permenant/free, all time heal (besides hp regen), obviously would've been wrong, so the fact that you need to pay for an item seems more reasonable; but at the same time it's not a heal that could save you from anything that you couldn't handle anyway. the mounts > morph i think is subjective, i personally like morphs and regarding the "cool mount", you're comparing plain morphs in this game with high tier mounts in other games. you could just as well say "i think turning into a wolf is cooler than having a plain horse as a mount", it's just about how creative the mounts/morphs are and subjective to the player. Also the stamina never seemed like a problem to me personally. about leveling; if there is anything no one complained about this game is that leveling is hard; i love the leveling journey in mmos and i hate rushing to max level, yet, as hard as i tried exploring and doing other sutff, i still leveled up easily. Too easily, if i might add. grapple, climbing/walking on hills or rocks is glitchy as hell and it often teleports me like rubberbanding. targetting messy as well, especially for controllers, but I am biased as i prefer action combat. to be clear, this game is far from ideal for me, but most of what you said definitely don't seem like issues.

Thank you for the input! Most of my gripe with leveling wasn’t around the difficulty as I agree it wasn’t super hard but more around I just wasn’t having fun. Easy leveling isn’t an issue for me as I enjoyed WoW with heirlooms and I don’t think leveling could get any easier than that
