@throtl I appreciate the work and attention to detail when rebuilding the quarter panels. It's like no one else picks up an autobody manual anymore and just does what they want. As these areas are both structural and can allow exhaust gases to escape into the interior of the vehicle, they should always be welded back and seam sealed like you guys do. Also like Ricky's explanation of welding an inch at a time for the outer quarter. I notice you paint the new pieces prior to welding (weld-through primer I assume) is just another thing that people watching may take for granted. Excellent work as always, Happy New Year guys!

They specified a weld through primer, although every primer is technically a weld through primer if you move slowly enough.

I use rhinoliner/bedliner in all my wheelwells now, especially custom ones. Reduces road noise and that stuff is tough as hell.

Remember when they used to cut strips in the fenders and bend them up, weld and seam seal? The way they're doing this and the eclipse is sooooo clean fender wise

Yes, I remember that. I remember that kid TJ did that to his wide fender vehicles. Honestly, I thought that process was kinda tacky. I’m not a professional fabricator, but I was wondering why they don’t they use a sheet metal and custom cut the metal to fill the opening and weld it in place. I’m glad they are now doing that first with the eclipse and now this vehicle. As much I’m not into wide fender vehicles, the eclipse is very nice. I’m not following the wide fender Skyline, but this car has racetrack written all over it.😀

Yes, I always thought that. I think covering those holes where the screws are and filling it with body filler and making the wide fenders look seamless on the body looks so much better. I’m not a wide fender fan, but I feel making a seamless fender on the body would look so much better. Seeing the seam with the holes and the screws visible looks so tacky.😕

@@christopherdeguzman1137 I think it depends on the kit. It can look good but need a lot of other over defined bits around the car to take away from the bolts. Yes mostly smooth is better. More OEM plus which I'm surprised Mickey wouldn't want anyways. Bokt holes are not Mickey Spec

Leaving the fender as a bolt on though makes it easier in case the over fenders need to be removed or replaced if one is broken. The smooth panel is more aesthetically appealing but the downstar hardware is more practical in the long run.

Mick is right doing it this way makes the body tight against rain and road debris and leaving a drain hole helps get the stuff out of the body work so it doesn't rust away.

ricky needs to dial in that welder, the flashing and fizzling tells me either wire feed or voltage is off. the paint/primer messes with it too so need a speed that burns off the primer and allows consistent welding. Could also stich weld one inch instead of full bead run for the inch space.

hey Mick why dont you all ever do a molded widebody instead of bolt on, panel bond the full kit to the car and then mold it in with fiber glass reinforced filler

The way you do widebody fender is basically like an old hot rodder tubbing a car. Just moving the body out instead of hiding the rubber inside the stock body

As someone who works in a body shop, I know y’all put weld thru primer on, but please for the sake of redundancy, can y’all put some cavity wax on the inside once you weld up the quarters? That primer isn’t always 100% and neither is cavity wax but the more anti corrosion protection the better. We have to put it on anything and everything metal related we work on and it helps
