RTV isn't (solely) what's causing engines to pop, but rather it's just bad design for oil pan design/oil pickup that causes oil starvation during hard/sustained cornering. It's actually an issue for a lot of cars but especially the new 86/brz.
@quiksilverw03522 ай бұрын

@pasmoi42332 ай бұрын
No, something that is said about the RTV is not true: the RTV clogging the oil pump pickup does not comes from the oil pan seal. (The RTV of the oil pan is the only RTV of this engine that is fine). Actually, this engine block does not have a head gasket. This block is made of lots (7 ?) of different part, and each part is sealed with RTV. Obviously, the screws of an engine block are torqued at a very high force, and so, either when build in factory, or open and rebuild (for valve spring recall), when the block is assembled and closed, the RTV that overflows is "cut" by the high torquing force of the engine screws and by the block closing arround it, like scisors. These pieces of RTV comming from the upper part of the block sometime directly clog the lubrication holes for bearings, causing early catastrophic failure. But most of the time, these RTV pieces slowly travel to the oil pan, and slowly start clogging the grid inside the oil pickup tube. That's why this issue is a time-bomb: failure and engine self destruction often happens only 10 000 miles after the engine is build/rebuild/closed. It's to avoid that problem that other brands use classical composite head gasket, or paper head gasket. But full RTV-only head gasket is a special subaru technique, that has lots of advantages when well made, and last longer (when it does not cause an early engine self-destruction), and that is a lot cheaper than composite head gasket (specially in these flats engine made of 7 pieces of block, that would otherwise requiere 7 different head gaskets).
@pasmoi42332 ай бұрын
anyway, even though motul oils are way better than almost any other oils ... putting a 0w20 in that engine will just make it's life very short, unless the car is only driven very slowly, at low rpm, for daily commutes. Choosing a 0w20 oil will just ruin any benefits you got from cleaning the pickup tube. Read the manual. (And the real japanese manual, it's more accurate). 0w20 is only for fuel economy, european regulation on pollution and CO2 regulation. But when pushing the revs or sport-driving the car, it's written in the manuel: oils from 0w30 to 5w40 must be used. Specially anywhere outside the freezing cold of Alaska. Or maybe is this only a show car, a car-park meeting car, that will almost never be driven for real? with of without the RTV that covered half of the oil pickup grid, when your oil temperature will reach 130°C (and that will happen if you drive this car in moutain uphill), with 0w20 you will destroy your engine.

The RTV in this car will not starve the engine of oil. There are 5 or 6 screens in that tube and only one is partially blocked.
@josephferraro8277 ай бұрын
The amount of screen doesn't matter if 1 gets partially blocked. Overtime it's easy to see that RTV breakoff can accumulate and almost fully block one screen, doesn't matter if there are 100 screens, if the first one is blocked, there will be less oil flow

Not wanting the be that one, but for me, the exhaust, coilovers and wheels would've been enough. I'm not a fan of that Carbonfiber on a black metallic car, especially if it is added instead of replacing stuff. You'd use Carbonfiber parts to save weight, not add it. Only the Hood saved weight there. It's still a great project and I enjoyed the video nonetheless. I'm just saying that I wouldn't make all those changes if it was my car. The fun part about customizing cars is, that you can change it to your own liking after all.

Such a cool lookin little car. It’s a crime that they never gave it an engine to match its looks. If only it had like turbocharged 325hp~350hp engine that would have made the damn thing perfect. And if it already came with a turbo, all that would be required would be some tuning if people wanted to have a little bump in performance turbocharged performance is so easy to gain just with a tune in mapping especially when the engines are designed to handle boost. Unlike high compression Naturally Aspirated engines with a turbo slaped on. They actually have low compression rods and iron more robust blocks and gaskets all that stuff to handle some more boost beyond factory with a tune. That’s why the two Jay-Z engine is so legendary even though it only came with 250 hp because it was designed to be boosted. It could handle so much more boosting you could get so much more power power out of it…. Try doing that with a little high revving, naturally aspirated lightweight engine where they cut everything to save weight that would’ve made the engine more robust..
