If you're considering buying a welding table, you're going to need fixtures and clamps to make the best use of the table. I cover DIY methods of making various fixtures and clamps.

I feel your frustrations buddy. I tried ordering from a US company once and the girl on the order desk told me in the most condescending voice "I'm sorry sir but we do not ship out of North America". I shook my head and reminded her that when I went to school Canada was actually in North America......she still wouldn't send me anything.

A lot of the problems involves tariffs and other fees. It gets complicated. Also the Canadian dollar fluctuates a lot regarding the US dollar. For some reason (Hmm, I wonder why?) Canada make’s it much easier to export than import.

Loved the This Old Tony effect. The chisel break was fantastic. I'm surprised you were welding at 26.5V+ on that stuff. Makes sense, you want guaranteed full penetration being that you're using them for fixtures and they'll be under constant dynamic forces. Get in there hot and fast so you don't spend too much time heating the weld affected zone. I'll be doing an exhaust for one of my motorcycles soon. And I'm nearly done the front fairing mold for my MV. Takes forever!!! I thought I was going to be done it in a week... 2 months later. Took me 4 full days just to flange and wax!!! Didn't realize how many curves and complex the fairings were till then. Made the sides and nose all one piece. Would have been easier and faster to do each as their own mold, but that adds weight and makes it annoying to take 3 off instead of 1. Car panels are way more simple, bigger, but simple. Definitely concerned about pulling the molds off. I know I will have touch ups and maybe repairs too. Though I do feel confident that the molds will release easily, go figure. Flanging has been coming of super easy. And if I'm not careful, bump it a little to hard as I've been preparing the flanging and waxing for the inner cowling, the fairings give a little creek as they start to release. Your videos have helped a lot. Especially the mold release application. The bagging and resin calculations will be a big help I'm sure once I get to that stage. Looking forward to the exhaust work. Are you going stainless or titanium? I'm recycling a stainless (400 series) exhaust system for the KLR, and will be doing titanium (Gr.9 3Al-2.5V) for the MV.

Clever stuff! If a stop (upright pin) is on occasion attached by a bolt from the underside of the table (such as for indexing multiple identical work pieces), you might mill small parallel flats somewhere on the pin - would perhaps make securing it easier. And would make using fingers or pliers on it unnecessary.
@ThrottleStopGarage

You could - or weld a nut to the top. I was just using mine today and I had no trouble with them just being held by hand and tightened. I was using them to make a bending jig. No problems.

Oh I’m totally going to do the vinegar bath if it strips mill scale! Been debating if I want to mechanically strip it off of the seat mounts I’m building and this just takes the cake if I can just strip the sections I need to weld and then dunk the whole thing before paint.

@@ThrottleStopGarage I've used straight concentrated hydrochloric acid brushed onto paper towels to remove it from the top of something I couldn't bath like that and it worked pretty fast, but the acid got consumed and I had to keep brushing on more and agitating it. End result, beautiful bare steel plate 50mm thick :-)

I would like to know where you found good quality tap and die sets. Which tap set you chose and are you happy with your choice.
@ThrottleStopGarage
@ThrottleStopGarage 2 жыл бұрын
For sets, McMaster Carr carries good quality taps for a good price. I like that they kit the sets for each size with a plug, bottoming and taper tap. I also shop locally. Most domestic brands are fine. Imports are not very good...to useless.

@ThrottleStopGarage
@ThrottleStopGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I think buying good quality taps is the key to fewer frustrations and better quality parts. Nothing that comes in a kit! They work for cleaning holes and are pretty junky. McMaster sells top quality taps "USA made" or made in Europe. I replaced all my metrics with sets from them...come with a taper, plug and bottoming tap. Widia is the brand name.
