I wanted to say thank your for this as well. Just rebuilt my Bendix M/C and Booster for my '57 Olds. Saved some cash and had fun!

It is good to be able to do it yourself.

Thanks to this video my 1958 Oldsmobiles brake master cylinder strip down and rebuild went better than I had hoped. Not to many bits left over at the end (haha!). Probably saved me $850. Keep up the good work!

Have two to rebuild. The one I've pulled off my 57 Pontiac Catalina hardtop (I've already purchased a replacement to have a spare) and the one off the 53 Packard Mayfair 2dr hardtop aborted project that I recently rescued. Thanks for the video. It's still helping folks. 👍

This is perfect!!! I'm just working on my brakes on my 53 Packard Cavalier. It's been sitting for a number of years and definitely losing vacuum so time for a rebuild. Pulled it apart while it was in the car to have a look and piston seal and the value are both leaky.

Hi, I noticed you have the reservoir cap on the opposite side when rebuilt? it's on the left side facing the fender when you take it out , but on the right side when you rebuild it? is this a thing or was it done on purpose? I watched another video where a unit was sent in to be rebuilt and came back opposite as well? I'm getting ready to rebuild mine which is also on the wrong side and almost fully blocked by the steering column, am I missing something? thanks

Great video for a total rebuild. my 55 Bel air ...when i start the engine the pedal goes to the floor by itself. what part is bad that is causing this in your opinion?
@mlt10823 жыл бұрын
You have a bad valve inside the booster, when they get stuck to on position the pedal will do exactly what you’re saying, usually rebuilding the booster will fix your problem, however, make sure your brake pedal is free against the booster, otherwise a bit of tension can cause the pedal to apply by it self

Thank you so much for making this video , I'm doing a 55 Pontiac star chief an was going to spend 750$ I'm going to order the parts an would like to know what kit you used..You made my day!! ..your awesome!
@ThrottleStopRacing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, The kit came from Kanter Auto Parts, and in my opinion was not very complete. If you need the kit number I could look it up for you.

We'll let's see it working the car now, and you young man, I need you to do the same to both of my 58 Edsels, but mine only have 1 brake line, I'm sure it's the same you did yours, by the way, what kind of car was the master cylinder off of. GREAT JOB!!👌✌️👍

Thanks for the great video it help me to work on my master cylinder/booster I have a Delco Moraine master cylinder/booster from a Cadillac 56 62 series , and have a issue with the vente hole, brake fluid leaks steady until the reservoir is empty , order a rebuilding kit and follow your video and the Cadillac shop manual, everything looks good until I stalled and notice the same brake fluid leaking from the vent hole. any suggestions ? can I plug that vent hole ? what's the function of the vent hole ? Regards
@mlt10823 жыл бұрын
If you plug the vent hole, you’ll still have a leak going into the vacuum part of the booster, the problem with your unit after putting a kit, is that the bore where the mains seal goes is bad, even if you had a better seal and a better shaft, ( which are not available anyways) but your problem is in the outside diameter of the cup trying to seal against a bore that has pitted

Thanks for the great video. i'm about to pull the moraine booster out of my 58 Oldsmobile and wasn't sure how to go about it. I had it rebuilt about 13 years ago but for some reason it has fluid inside the booster? the guys that rebuilt it said i need to drive it more, i must admit i have left the car in the garage for a few months at a time, not sure if this is a good thing. hope it's an easy fix, many Thanks again for the video. I would also like to know where you got your kit from if possible , Cheers.

I seems you have installed the Residual Check Valve opposite to how it is shown in diagrams. In the diagrams the spring goes in first and the rubber cup & retainer ( valve) is on top towards the outlet, seating on the outlet fitting. In your case the spring is on the outlet fitting and the rubber cup is in the cavity facing down. I think it makes sense the way you have installed it. i.e. the fluid pressure will raise the cup, depressing the spring, and letting the fluid pass out the outlet and on release the fluid returning to the chamber will not be able to do so . However then the brakes would not release. What is your opinion ? which is correct. I am overhauling the BTV on my 1956 Cadillac. Amer Ahmad Lahore, Pakistan

Let me digest this, I will rely later.
@robinimpey101 Жыл бұрын
@ThrottleStopRacing Are you done digesting yet?? I had the same thought after rebuilding my Treadlevac today for my 53 Packard. The check valve I took out was spring in first with the rubber seat sealing against the fitting for the outlets. And that does seem to be what the service manual indicates, so I put it back that way, opposite of how you installed yours.
