I learned so much from this lecture - thank you! This information clarified what I am reading about her now, I look forward to other lectures by this historian, Felicia Zavarella Stadelman. I do not find these women ugly, I find them real. Cassatt is an admirable example of a woman who succeeded in this male dominated field. Mary Cassatt helped her family and was a caregiver for her mother and sister before they died, all the while continuing with her painting. She helped her fellow impressionists by helping fund their shows and helping Americans buy their art. In this way she also made a great contribution to our museum collections. We should not forget her great contribution of her own paintings and prints for encouraging the respect of motherhood by depicting the active love between mother and child.

Honestly, DAY-ga! Parmajano! Pastelles! All the "nows". So irritating.
