1:28:00 I have a theory about the green mist coming from Harry's vault. I believe it was the remnants of a Finite Incantatem spell. In book two, Snape uses this spell during the dueling club and it's described as "A haze of greenish smoke was hovering over the scene." Maybe when the door is opened with Harry's key, the spell triggers, wiping out defensive spells on the vault, and leaving a green mist or haze.

They are going to do every single chapter from every single book. One chapter every week (on another channel) Will take several years to complete all the books. That 198 chapters. Meaning it will take almost 4 years. Although on this channel looks like they are putting a few episodes combined into one longer episode on this channel.

Exactly, it's like several people trying to decide where to eat and everyone has a different taste. They all know the obvious choice when someone just rhetorically says, "There's only one place we're going to find all those choices, The Food Court," which is the local place where everyone goes to satisfy multiple appetites. I never thought it odd when Mrs Weasley says, "Platform 9 and three quarters this way" and also "There's only one place we're going to find all of this, Diagon Alley." It's rhetorical conversation.

Replying from the UK HUMBUG: A hard, boiled sweet, usually striped. MOLESKIN: a type of tight woven cotton fabric. (Like brushed cotton but heaver and tighter.) Very soft, like tye velveteen pelt of a mole. Usually worn by country folk, as it's unlikely to snag as might a looser weaved cloth. WHELK: Marge's eating of a whelk is an odd one. Unlike escargot they're not fine dining, and you'd be more likely to find them in a working class Cokney pub, or lower class seaside resort. They're usually eaten covered in salt and vinegar, and like snails are rubbery. Also like snails they need something strong to make then palatable. Excellent work gents!

Native Brit myself, and I find it a tad frustrating how much they assume from an American perspective. I find even many Americans at least have a passing awareness of older English currency, like Shillings and Guinea and Crowns. To me, wizarding money seems like an obvious parody on the old money. Yes, Hermione has that Ravenclaw v Gryffindor discussion with the Sorting Hat. She mentiones that in OotP when everybody is so astonished she bewitched the Galleons. Less of a "what if" but I always wished Hermione had also had a sister who was just a muggle but rather than being jealous, she was super supportive. Because in many ways Hermione mirrors Lily while also being her opposite in other ways and a supportive sister would have been in line both with the mirror and the opposite. Kinda feels like it would have been a nice touch. Doesn't affect the story at all but it's there

I remember a fanfiction in which someone mentioned the unfairness of the trace rule and the person said "Well, the spirit of the law is that a minor shouldn't be doing magic without adult Wizarding supervision, in case they have an accident and someone needs to fix a failed spell" ... and honestly it makes sense. It's still kind of unfair, but... it does make sense. Besides, if you force the Trace onto every minor, Wizarding kids wouldn't be able to be homeschooled Also, about the ice cream, it could be just a little white lie Hagrid said to surprise Harry with the ice cream! In defense of Neville: I have always thought he had some brain damage dating from the attack on his parents. Assuming they were attacked at home, perhaps one of the Death Eaters did something to him, or a well-meaning relative blurred his memory afterwards to protect him from the knowledge and overdid it.

I don’t think so, because Neville is for sure more talented than given credit for. In Herbology, he excels at it, so no comment, Potions, Snape is just the worst, so he isn’t great at (like every other Gryffindor), and the rest of the classes that require wands, he has an excuse because he used his Fathers wand, (the wand chooses the wizard) so he is physically limited with what he can do

My head cannon is that Hagrid used a portkey to get to the shack on the rock. At this time Albus is still in good standing with Fudge. I'm sure he could be convinced to allow (if he would even notice because security was lax at the Ministry at that time) one to go get Harry Potter for school.

The fact that Narcissa got Draco his wand meant that Draco's wand doesn't need to meet the wizard to lend loyalty. Which makes perfect sense as to how Harry was able to get that wand's loyalty by just grabbing it from Draco's hand. That wand will sway to anyone.

Since you decided to talk at length about the Chamber of Secrets and Myrtle's murder, I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that Aragog could never have been the monster attacking people, because all of the victims were always unmarked, and acromantulas are GIANT SPIDERS with GIANT FANGS that would OBVIOUSLY leave HUGE marks.

As to the question about "how did everyone know that was Harry Potter?" Well, he looks exactly like James, doesn't he? And we are led to believe that James was quite well known in the wizarding world. He was a Pure-Blood, for starters and all the pure-blood families know each other and are in fact related in some distant way.

I think Bill or Charlie might have been the first to take Scabbers to Hogwarts, going off the timeline. It's been 10 years since Scabbers first became a house pet of the Weasleys (12 years based on conversations between characters in Prisoner of Azkaban but that's not for another 2 years, so 12 - 2 equals 10), which back then would be one year before the start of the player's first year in Hogwarts Mystery (I'll treat HM as if it took place in an alternate timeline because there was no mention of Cursed Vaults in the original timeline), but that would have still been 5 years before Percy becomes a Hogwarts student. This would be Molly's 17th year going to King's Cross (I think 10th with her kids), so Ron is about 10 years younger than Bill. So Ron would have been 1 year old, Fred and George would have been 3, Percy would have been 5, Charlie would have been 10, and Bill would have been 12 when they first took in Scabbers.

A Chapter 5 note (mentioned at 1:42-ish): Cats have always been attributed to witches. In the real world, the main reason is that this stigma happened during the black plague (but has its basis in all plagues). The primary illness spreaders were the fleas on mice. Because cats often hunted and killed mice and are disproportionately loved by women more than men, people often mistook cat-loving women who lived slightly outside of villages and never got sick as witches. These women were often burned at the stake. In the Wizarding World, it wouldn’t surprise me if cars had a more direct magical connection with witches.

I think maybe Petunia doesn't say anything because she is scared of Vernon and won't contradict him.
@_monomoon
@_monomoon Ай бұрын
@@jenniedarling3710I don’t think so. There are definitely family dynamics IRL where this is true, and I myself have experienced this, but I don’t think Petunia is afraid of Vernon, not in general. Both Dudley and she are confused and frightened by his weird mood during the week the letters come, but other than that, they are very comfortable with each other. Petunia contradicts him when he suggests where Harry could go when Mrs Figg couldn’t take him on Dudley’s birthday (and he does not get mad at her), they brainstorm together on what to do when the first letter arrived, she is hiding behind Vernon, when Hagrid comes to the hut on the rock, and overall, Vernon believes his wife completely about her experiences with the wizarding world (in OOTP, he’s about to rip Harry’s head off bc he doesn’t believe him about the Dementors, but believes Petunia immediately and calms down). And I’m sure there are many more examples where they show that they are a supportive couple. They are horrible to other people and specifically to Harry, but they are good to and with each other.

Draco's wand is so perfect for the character who he had the potential to become (conflicted, outside suited for dark magic, core from one of the purest creatures) but I can imagine it going kind of like when I was buying glasses as a kid. While I was getting my eye exam, my mom was looking at frames, picked out a few that I would try, and one of them would usually fit, but I was still free to look at others. So maybe Narcissa would pick out a few that would fit someone of Draco's nature and social standing, at least to have a starting point

Did you miss the point? It would mean his wand has no allegiance to him. The wand is supposed to choose the wizard. Their mom isn't supposed to do it for them 😂

Couple of 9 and 3/4 ideas. maybe the platform number does change, just not every year, certainly not in the time that Harry is there; maybe it happens in response to muggles discovering the platform or just so they don't get suspicious. If the platform number truly does not change then Petunia should have known the number from when Lilly went. So maybe Vernon isn't so much "there isn't no platform 9 and 3/4" but more "You are the magical one, you figure out how to get to it"

Thanks J about the stalagmite and stalactite fact because even thought I knew one grows from ground up and the other from the ceiling down, I could never remember which one was which. And you are right, Hagrid saying that one has an "m" in it, is hilarious. Mostly because it's true but not completely. Even my mom laughed when she heard that.

Even though Uncle Vernon is being awful about the platform, Aunt Petunia 100% knows that 9 3/4 is legitimate. She would have seen Lily off there multiple times. Maybe not once she left for college since she was older than Lily, and would have an excuse not to go, but definitely when she was too young to stay home. Hermione’s parents walk her to the train and the Evan’s were too proud of Lily to not see her off every year!

Love listening to you guys!! Your explanation on candy bars was funny because I had the same realization when I went to England and got a mix of mini bars. It blew my mind because their Milky Way was just a soft toffee covered in chocolate and their mars bars are like our Milky Way ones. Always love the thought process we go through on thinking most things in HP are magical, but most are just something British that sounds foreign to us.

Peppermint Humbugs - little late to answer, but can't see that anyone else has - yes they are an old-fashioned british sweet (hard candy) - usually striped (often black and white or red and white). Turns out there's records of them as far back as 1820s, which was new info for me as well :)

Something came to my mind, about Harry's grandparents, how they were proud of their daughter being a witch, and that she was young when Harry was born. Why not give Harry to them? What happened to not give Harry to them? McGonagall was worried about giving Harry to Petunia and Vernon, so where is the rest of his family?

Ok, hear me out about the peter pettegrew thing. Im pretty sure he and sirius fight in the middle of london, so as a rat pettegrew would have easily been able to hide and eat there for years if he wanted to. If he wanted wizzarding news though, he'd have to go to diagon alley, and if he wanted a guarantee he'd be treated well and not seen as a pest or eaten by owls, the best place for him to go is the pet shop. From there, it would be pretty simple for him to just get sold to an unsuspecting molly or percy. When they take him in years later, the shopkeep notes how nonmagical he appears to be, so i cant imagine he would have been expensive, abd therefore ideal for molly.

I have a theory about Hagrid... When he was accused of being the heir of Slytherin, Dumbledore managed to convince the ministry that Hagrid didn't INTEND to kill anyone, and that was the monster's fault alone (he does a similar thing to save Lupin from being accused as supporting Sirius black in the end of 3rd book)... So when the ministry/Dippet decided to expel Hagrid, Dumbledore might've negotiated to keep him as a Gamekeeper BUT at the cost of the Wand being snapped, so that he is no longer harmful to anyone by any chance. Dumbledore would've thought that to be the best outcome, and anyways is later able to mend it, so that's why Hagrid's wand was snapped in the first place, to keep him out of Azkaban and to land him a job... That's my theory anyway

Just because I thought it was great that Ben learned a scientific fact about the earth while researching Harry Potter facts here is a very short explanation for those who also didn't know that the earth has a bigger diameter at the equator than from pole to pole. It's because the earth rotates around an axis vertical to the equator and the centrifugal force makes the earth a little bit more "flat" at the poles.

While listening I had a thought which clicked so perfectly with the questions about how Hagrid got to the house on the rock; what if Hagrid used a portkey? He arrives at such a precise time and he's got all sorts of odd things in his pockets. Plus we see Dumbledore make one in the later books. I think it's less likely he disappeared from Diagon alley with one, but it would also explain why Hagrid needed a pick-me-up, he's got a strict schedule to keep if he wants to get back to Hogwarts.
