Would love to hear your thoughts on the Crystal! You always have an amazing take on things. Been watching Steve and Sebastian's reviews - and I'm super excited about the potential. It feels like they nailed the hardware, but still have some firmware/driver/software updates to make, and I'll still waiting for a Virtual Desktop support review 🙃. Sounds like Guy is working on it, but probably not a fast/easy process.

Just love my Pico 4 - I have to say that I don't play any standalone with it, but it's amazing with Virtual Desktop for PCVR. Reverb G2 resolution with pancake lenses, no wires, no Window Mixed Reality. As a N.A. user, I don't love ByteDance so I'm kind of hoping/waiting for other companies to step up. I live in Canada and ordered my Pico 4 from Amazon U.K. and just love it.

Lucky you did not need to return (refund or replace) it to Amazon UK under their 30 day return policy because you'd have been up for freight costs. Also, you now have no warranty. Pretty silly thing to do imho and also very silly that Pico still does not have US/Can/Au shipping options yet. Still, a very good value headset, that's for sure. Cheers.

Not just a great resolution but also a great FOV and the price is so reasonable. I had to return mine due to a distorted lens though, it seems to be a common issue so I decided to return it, otherwise it'd be my daily driver.

@@tomc1380 For sure good points - I mean, who is a VR enthusiast is not rolling the dice every day with the day the industry is evolving, so glad I rolled 7 this time 😄 For sure no regrets - it's my daily and go-to and all others are in a box. Unless maaaaybe the Crystal, but I'm holding. But I will say - with Pico 4 there are 2 black pixels in one spot of the display, pretty much since day 1. It's not really in the middle and not a huge deal, and to be honest I might not have asked for an exchange even if they were in N.A. unless I could walk into a Best Buy and exchange it for a factory new one.

Pico 4 with an RTX 4090 on God like Mode is amazing. No wires and looks so good. The Beyond and other headsets are marginally better but cost so much more. I will keep the Pico 4 for at least another year or two.

If they would sell the Quest Pro for $700 without the controllers for sim people it would be more compelling. The Beyon's lenses have a pretty small sweet spot. Going from a Quest 2 to a Pro the biggest difference is the astonishing improvement in the lenses and edge to edge clarity. It's like looking through glass vs plastic. Would love to see FOV tests and a focus on off center clarity.

The QP is an amazing headset imo. Ive used Pico 4, G2 and Aero and i prefer it over them all. The Lenses on the QP are nothing short of outstanding. These through the lenses shots are not great. I feel my QP is far better than the Pico 4 due to using it with cable at 960mbps bitrate, which you can't do with the Pico4

Quest Pro will not worth at that price. Reverb G2 with higher diagonal Fov, higher resolution and with higher PPD, just a better machine. And it always getting in sale for 300$. Its just ridiculous to 300$ machine superior to 1000$ one. Pico 4 also a better machine. For 1000 $ you can get a reverb G2, three lighthouse base station (3*$134,99), and a steam knockles($280). You will have the world best hand trackers( much superior than Quest pro trackers) and a better headset. And If you sell the Hp controllers you will even make some extra money. Same with Pico 4. Don't spend a fortune on Meta products.

@@onura2710 this sounds like an argument from a spec sheet. I own both the G2 and the Quest Pro, and the Pro is the vastly superior device. Much larger horizontal FOV, brighter, richer colours, local dimming for true blacks, absolutely no glare or godrays, and best of all true edge to edge clarity. After spending a few weeks with the Quest Pro, going back to the Reverb G2 was like contracting some kind of eye disease. I gave that headset to my brother, Fresnel lenses are done at this point.

Tyriel, SteamVR home (include custom home) are forced dynamic resolution "even on custom resolution". Many people forgetting about that. To make proper comparison, "actual" resolution need to be the same. Actually SteamVR home or custom home aren't suitable for comparison.

Kind of weird the Quest Pro has such a strong blue saturation in the footage. Having a Quest Pro myself I can't confirm this at all. Also the subpixel array on Quest doesn't show up in real life to the eye like it does in your footage. Still kind of camera error trying to capture the image I think. But it really well shows the edge to edge clarity and very nice text readability on Quest Pro.

As you say, the color of the image through the camera can vary greatly with small differences. Clarity, sweet spot, etc. are also different from what we actually see in headset. The important point is what he says, not through the lens video. But ignorant people think through the lens video shows actual difference.

Its not even about his filming, is also about your monitor. Is it color calibrated? Probably not. You would have to have the entire process color calibrated for the colors to come out accurately.

Thanks again for another good comparison, the PICO 4 really is impressive for the price. I find myself considering other headsets, but always end up back with my PICO 4. @@Zerinth I would say the G2 is better for sims. You have extra latency with the PICO 4 Through WiFi or usb. With Virtual Desktop's recent update the image quality is almost as good as the G2 or PICO Neo 3 Link, and the PICO 4 has a larger sweet spot, but the latency and smoothness of a display port cable would be missed with sims alone

@@Xincho88 for use with PCVR the latency is much higher if you don't have a display port cable. Also if you don't have a display port cable, then for PCVR the data stream for video is compressed, and when it reaches the headset it has compression artifacts which can make the image more fuzzy, especially in fast moving graphically demanding scerios such as racing sims 👍

Is impressive how pico 4 holds up vs the quest pro and the big screen, yea is behind the other 2 but when you think its price and how well stands you can think about the new value market that is coming for new cheap headsets with pancake lenses. the other thing is how each headset has a totally different color profile, quest pro is super cold, big screen has a bigger ambar tint and pico 4 a greener tint, now is resolution and clarity but i can see the next 3 years a new race for color accuracy because of "productivity and content consumption"

DK1 Kickstarter and have been watching your channel since I got my Quest 1, love your passion and dedication 🙌 I will say, I went from Quest 2 -> Reverb G2 -> Pico 4, and love the Pico 4. I"m thinking of the Pimax Crystal, but haven't pulled the trigger on the order because it seems like they have some firmware/driver/software updates to make before it feels ready. That being said - the Beyond looks amazing compared to the others in your video, and reviews have been amazing. My hesitation with the Beyond is 15% the FOV, but mostly that I never had a Valve Index - so the controllers + lighthouse for me was kind of a dealbreaker, which is why I never went with the Aero either. @@3lbios This.. having owned both the Pico 4 and the QP the QP is far superior than the Pico 4, the low bit rate on that is not very nice to use. I even prefer the Q Pro over the Aero, the lenses on that are amazing. The SDE is nothing like that looking at it through the eye, its certainly not amplified at all.

@@salkju Fov is noticeably smaller, but the sweetspot is bigger. The worst thing to me is latency, it’s pretty noticeable and playing beat saber for example is not very enjoyable for me. With that said It’s a better headset for sure, the clarity is amazing so so much better, tracking is better, and it’s wireless. My advise would be to wait for quest 3 tho’. I’m sure it’s going to be better, mainly because of software and new processor, meaning less latency. Sry if I wrote something incorrectly, not my native language

I'm sorry but these comparisons are completely useless if you don't tell us how you run these headsets. Two out of three are streaming headsets! There is an absolutely enormous difference between Streaming Assistant and VD Godlike on the Pico 4. Same for QPro, what bitrate is it run on?

Did you test the beyond in 90hz? Because (correct me if I'm wrong) if so it doesn't render at full resolution. Also did you fix the white balance of your camera? Aka are the colors comparable like that? And what did you set it to? Would be nice to see properly set white under daylight conditions as comparison. (set your lights to 5600K and whitebalance your camera to it. Then do your VR tests with that exact setting. Like this it looks like the beyond has a slight warm and violet tint, the pico a noticeable green tint and the quest pro a noticeable cool shift

Great video Tyriel. I have a Quest Pro already and absolutely love the lens clarity, hoirzontal FOV, colours and local dimming. The Bigscreen Beyond looks very appealing for PCVR but whilst it seems much sharper in your videos it looks to have pretty poor edge to edge clarity, at least from your videos, it looks like the Pro has much better image clarity outside of the centre. Having used both extensively now, do you feel the Bigscreen Beyond is enough of an upgrade over the Pro to warrent purchasing if you already have a Quest Pro, or will the trade offs in lens clarity, FOV and brightness mean that there are pros and cons to both? I had a Vive Pro 2 with 2448 x 2448 per eye resolution and I'd never use that over the Quest Pro now, its clarity doesn't come close to the Pro despite the display port and high resolution per eye, the lenses just ruin that headset. I don't know if I'd be disappointed with certain aspects of the Beyond or not comapred to the Pro or if the microOLED displays would just blow me away? I wish we would could try before we buy somehow. What I really want is a Quest Pro 2 with microOLED displays but they have canned the Pro 2 now so I have to look elsewhere for high resolution displays. Does the Bigscreen feel like a next gen leap over the Quest Pro, or do they feel more like the same gen? As a GPU analogy, I upgraded my 3090 to a 4090 and was mightily pleased, but I wouldn't have gone from the 3090 to the 3090Ti. Is the Bigscreen Beyond compared to the Pro a 3090Ti or a 4090 type upgrade in your imo?

I have Quest Pro & a 4090. I cannot see myself upgrading until a 4000x4000 micro OLED HMD comes out. The biggest unexpected aspect of QPro for me is that large eyebox clarity & how my eyes now use VR. The Beyond looks amazing, i'm just concerned i'd have to retrain my eyes if the eyebox clarity is smaller. I can't use Quest 2 comfortably anymore.

Sold my vive pro 2 for $900 bucks and purchased a used like new quest pro for $500 bucks and its amazing. Okay I have a i7 10th gen and rtx 3080 the link cable sucks! Purchased a 50 dollar one and the game kept freezing after 5 minutes also it would stutter alot! Purchased the oculus link cable for 80 at best buy and it was the same crap seeing some stuttering artifacts, and the game would freeze after 5min. Finally purchased a 100Foot CAT8 ethernet cable from Amazon 40 bucks. I ran it from my wifi router thats all the way across my house to my gaming pc and launched airlink and it sucked! Lag was terrible 😪 so I got Virtual Desktop and WOW blown away it works perfectly! You'd never know you were streaming the game it feels like its playing natively like pcvr not only that but its %100 better looking than my old Vive Pro 2. I love the clean image and everything looks crisp and colorful HLYX is a totally different looking game and the fact I can play without being tethered by a wire is awesome! I have Cox internet 500mbps speed wifi 5 router that supports gigablast. I see zero artifacts or compression using virtual desktop high setting bitrate at 150 the streaming codec I have set to Hevc 10 bit. I can walk to my living room far from my gaming pc and it still streams fine no lag and looks incredible. The only thing I dislike is the sound sucks and the docking station to charge everything bad design. Comfort is incredible no more pressure on my face only on tip of forhead but doesn't bother me at all. I watch anime and movies on it looks amazing much clearer than the vive 2 was and much more enjoyable. I like that it has removable light blockers I dont use them that often I like the fact I feel connected to the outside world when I am watching a movie. Anyone worried if the image is not going to be great you'll be blown away by the new pancake lens and just how good the local dimming and colors are on the quest pro. Okay I think I raved enough about this headset lol. You'll just have to take my word. If you use it as a standalone its great but gaming performance still kinda sucks and if couse those ugly mobile graphics are trash. I haven't used AR yet but whatever. Also you get eye tracking and facial tracking kinda cool but I haven't tried it yet... I also had the HP reverb g2 years ago thought it was trash windows vr sucks and the sweet spot sucks and the tracking. I really liked my vive pro 2 paired with index controllers it was awesome and looked the best and had a pretty good size sweet spot but was heavy couldn't play any fast paced games since the headset would slide around unless I tightent the shit out of it but that was uncomfortable after 30min to an hour I was worried the quest pro wasn't gonna look good but it looks miles better and the experience is better as well as the comfort. Sounds like Quest Pro lenses + Beyond screens would be a perfect match... but it is sadly not so easy in reality, the Beyond mOLED screen is much smaller so you need a other Pancake lense design, Quest Pro lenses wouldn't work.

The HMD Geometry database lists the binocular overlap for all headsets. The Pico 4 is excellent at 104°, the Quest Pro is a slightly disappointing 79.72°. No figures that I've seen for Bigscreen Beyond yet.

Since watching the Apple VP presentation, I've gone down the VR/AR YT rabbit hole. :) My thoughts on these before stopping just after the comparisons finished, but before your comments, as I didn't want what you said to influence my opinion. Beyond: I was a little disappointed. Given the specs I expected to be wowed more. While clear that it has the most resolution, it seems to have softer lenses, and give it was OLED, I expected color/contrast to pop the most but it didn't. Pico: Kind of in the middle Quest Pro: While you could tell it had the lowest resolution. It seemed most consistently in focus, and its colors also seemed to pop better. No clear winner for me, but none are terrible either. Now I go watch the rest of they video, to see what you said about them.

Quest pro has way too cool of a color tone, while the beyond has slightly too warm of one. None of these reproduce colors particularly well, but I'd take the beyond just for the sake of light/dark contrast. LCDs will never have good contrast. Quest Pro is definitely the sharpest, but that doesn't really help when it's also the lowest resolution option. I'd rather have a little blur. I'm still running older vive hardware just because HMDs like the Index, and others in its range, have extremely bright darks, thanks to the backlight shining through. I'd rather have true dark, than high resolution.

Interesting to see that pixel shimmer from individual pixels on an object's edge not exist for the Beyond. It also nearly disappears for the Quest Pro. It's still there in the Pico 4, but to it's credit, it doesn't seem to be a huge problem. I wonder if it's possible to make it disappear on the Pico 4 by cranking up the anti-aliasing to somewhere between x4 and x8. Although I'm not sure if that has already been done. The Beyond clearly has the nicest looking images, I think mostly due to the high res MicroLED display. But the Quest Pro seems to do very well as clarity. I noticed that the contrast of text and similar shapes was very nice for the Quest Pro. Although the Quest Pro seemed to have some noticeable chromatic aberration in the letter chart eye test scene, which I didn't notice in any other scene. I wonder if the Beyond would look even better with equivalent lenses to the Quest Pro; the blurring at the edges of the screen in the Beyond is due to the lenses, right? Given the choice between the Beyond and Quest Pro, I think I'd pick the Quest Pro. The Quest Pro's vision is acceptable, but it also comes with eye tracking; a feature missing from the Beyond. I also don't like the requirement to use an iPhone to order the Beyond. Not everyone has or wants an iPhone. It wouldn't be a problem if they had an option to mail out an iPhone for you to borrow for the scan, even if there was a reasonable waiting list to receive a loaner unit. I'm sure they could afford to keep some low end iPhones in stock if they charged a little more for the option, like 50 USD or so, plus a refundable deposit to cover the replacement cost if someone doesn't return the loaner. Maybe ship it out in an over-built protective phone case? Doesn't need to be fashionable, just needs to survive.

I'm also a big OLED fanboy! I still have a +4.5yo cv1 with too low res, too much mura. Also a +3.5yo DP wired Vive Pro1 (amoled, Etsy lens mod, Index controllers) with a little too much SDE, although not too bad with my i9 13900k/rtx4090 PC's ability to super sample the heck out of it. I'm looking forward to seeing higher res micro-oled headsets like the Beyond (or Vive Pro3?) so I can retire my VP1. I also have a Quest Pro and with Local Dimming, and while it's very good, it's still not OLED, lol! However, I don't notice any significant blooming in most games/sims. Hopefully when a QPro2 comes out (in a couple of years time?) it will include micro-oled screens. Thanks for your honest and informative videos mate and cheers.

Excellent, it is clear that it is very good to have Oled and high resolution, and if we add the DisplayPort cable... it is the best.

I think it's due to the pancake lenses which magnifies the Quest2 resolution so the SDE is way more visible, unlike the Pico4 and Beyond which are much higher res.

@@Verociity They probably didn't have very much processing power left to spare for a significantly higher resolution. Even if they did, they've still got to worry about all the extra tech draining the battery, so extra resolution was probably a little too much for this first gen Pro model.

Because it doesn't look that to your eyes. The camera is picking up on the pixels in a very strange way that your eyes don't. Through the lens videos are neat not a real world representation of what it looks like when both of your eyes are focusing on the two pictures, making them one.

I think tyreil has a faulty quest pro. In all of his through the lenses videos his quest pro shows a lot of screen door effect which is non existent in my pro and his also has a blue hue to it. Irl the quest pro screen blows these other two out the water

Regardless quest pro does have a very slight screen door, which is seen in this video where he zooms way in to the screen to emphasize it. I don’t think his is defective, I think it’s just a limitation of how these videos are made.
