Thank you for your balanced perspective. Many Spurs KZbinrs tend to lean on negativity to boost their profiles, as it's often easier to criticize than to acknowledge the facts you've highlighted to some extent. Let's be honest-what have we truly achieved over the past X years? Personally, I'd much rather focus on the positives and enjoy watching my team play attractive, front-foot football (which is the essence of Tottenham) than dwell on what we've done in the past

Thanks for the show. Pretty much now only watch you guys and Ally Gold, religiously. It's getting harder to stomach the other Spurs Pods. Even the ones that weren't feral are swaying that way under cover of being "balanced". Sadly, few channels are about the actual football. They're mostly guided by their emotionality around immediate wins and losses, as if Spurs losing is a personal slight against themselves. They're also notoriously black and white in their thinking with little space for nuance or context, and thus vent their emotions, declaring they gave Ange a go but now they're "Ange Out" - as if anyone cares about their personal decision on the manager's longevity or termination. Okay, off my soapbox. Just keep doing what you're doing! Enjoyed Hamish. COYS

Again, thanks for balanced and constructive commentary. While I have sympathy for those less patient, it is obvious for me that the players are running on fumes at the moment. To some degree it is also luck with respect to who is injured, ill or suspended (although some argue that is also down to Ange since training sessions are supposedly intense). If the injuries had been less concentrated to certain areas (and less long-term), we might have been able to cope a bit better.

Listening to Hamish there are two glaring similarities between Ange at Celtic and Spurs. That is results could have been completely different if Celtic had converted their chances, specifically in the CL campaign. You can see this in Spurs where they should be 2-3 goals up and the game dead and buried. Then the team tires and we lose 1-0. This then becomes a mental game, Spurs are dominanting possession but losing the match. All of s sudden every game is scrutinised, with pundits and some fans focussing on the negatives. As Hamish said Ange is up for it to prove his doubters wrong if he is given the chance and backing in the January window. The squad needs more depth to cover key positions when players are injured or suspended.

I thought they played well enough to win against a Chelsea team who has been playing better and has little injuries. Shame the two silly penalties were the difference. Like Hamish comments. Ange has a lot of belief in the way he does things. If he reaches the point where he doesn't think he can succeed he will leave of his own accord. We are not at that point. I think the fact that he is Australian is a reason for a lot of the hate.

@@OhSoSpursthe only trigger for Ange leaving would be if Levy doesn't spend what he needs to. So far, that doesn't appear to be the case. Ange's biggest problem was the 8-2 start which - while it cleared the stadium of toxicity from the Conte era - managed to make the "desperate for any silverware" and "Levy/ENIC out" crowds FAIL TO MANAGE EXPECTATIONS. Too many of these supporters immediately made the mental mistake that Ange had instantly turned a bloated mediocre squad - fresh off an 8th place finish - as "ready for prime time" and already a contender. This was always a 3-year process - even if Ange says "two" because Spurs also needed to jettison the dross from a bloated roster. Ange even got Levy to "eat the last year of N'Dombele's contract" This summer we purchased ONE ready-made player in Solanke (albeit expensive but long-needed hold-up striker) - and 4-5 kids for the future. Not enough additional starters to add needed depth. Add injuries and a player or two (PEM comes to mind) that wanted out because he did not want to come off the bench, and we still lack depth in many critical areas. The issue is more a combination of PERCEPTION and reality. For example, Arsenal have lost the lead and more points when leading than Spurs, but no one questions their defense. On the other hand, Ange adapted for Man City (Playing narrower and making several tweaks - there's a perception he could have done more to protect a lead. The other issue is HOW AND TO WHOM WE LOSE. How can a team that destroys the Manchester Clubs (winning 4-0 at City and 3-0 at United) and played that brilliant second half against Villa but then lost to two "then winless" teams in Palace and Ipswich [Note: Those games were 2 of 3 lost on the eve of International breaks - the third being Brighton]. ALL 6 defeats in the PL have been by a single goal. Spurs only lost points from 2 goals off corners (0-1 to Arsenal and Bournemouth). We lose 0-1 at Bournemouth playing miserably and giving up a single goal on Dragusin's awful defensive error on a corner. Yet, Arsenal (2-0) and Man City (2-1) lost at Bournemouth so maybe Bournemouth is actually tough to beat at home. But not to the negative supporters who cannot stop moaning, and don't consider Bournemouth's home form. And BTW - the 4-0 win at City was without our starting CBs and Bentancur, and that's evidence the system DOES. Unfortunately, it requires 11 men to commit and that's been a problem because if they don't it can collapse. That, and lack of depth has made us inconsistent. At least this podcast is positive, and I realize my comments are all over the place because I'm at work, but I'm glad I found this podcast because it's positive and too many others just keep asking for more of the same old circle of misery (caused by sacking a manager every 12-18 months which is the average if you back out Poch's 5-1/2 years).

People that are Ange out need to consider the alternative. What manager is going to want to join Spurs & why? Nonsense - there are plenty of managers out there that will join, utd went out and got amorim - I'm not wanting a win now flashy manager, but an up coming one like the Bournemouth coach who has shown adaptability, pushing above his weight, gets the best out of his players. Players have badly regressed under Ange and it's madness using same tactics every game.
@Serpsss
@Serpsss Ай бұрын
@@jashraf255 Do you think they'd come to Spurs with Levy's reputation? The lack of success on pitch, the clear priority of other ventures over the football team, the unwillingness to invest to push the team to the next level & the repeated use of scapegoating managers to hide bad board decisions? People seem to think they can just name their dream replacement and they'll come in but that's not how it works.
@jashraf255
@jashraf255 Ай бұрын
@@Serpsss it's not a dream replacement, that's why Im saying young up coming manager that wants to prove himself, and they won't be so demanding which will suit the levy framework, which by the way I want this ownership out. Results are getting worse and we can't keep going like this hoping a one dimensional manager will turn it around.
@Serpsss
@Serpsss Ай бұрын
@jashraf255 but why would they want to take the risk? If they want to get into the premier league for a couple of seasons then fine, spurs are a good choice. If they want a foothold in the premier league then spurs represents a huge risk that could set them back, especially when they look at the big names that came before them who couldn't turn things around. Ange is exactly what you describe, Nuno was too & they're the best prospect we can get at the moment; managers with a lot of self belief. More realistically though we're looking at paycheck chasers who know their performance doesn't even matter, they'll still get a nice payoff even if they fail.
@perdani82
@perdani82 Ай бұрын
It also bugs me that people try to paint Ange as tactically inept with complete disregard for the context, and in addition, complete disregard for the short-term vs. long-term benefits of being pragmatic or not. Say we need to use the youngsters in the upcoming month, is it not better to have them play the system as it "should" be, rather than something completely different? I also think that Ange is very aware he hasn't got any real leaders on the pitch, but he doesn't want to throw anyone under the bus. Probably one of the reasons he wanted to sign Conor Gallagher, for example. Anyway, enough ranting.

great discussion guys, everything old is new again , same fixture last season 2 reds , this season 2 penalties, almost biblical , swings and round abouts in the underlying data against chelsea. chelsea won chance creation, passes into final third , touches in the box , but spurs won non penalty xg and total attack contribution . in an alternative universe , statistical variance goes spurs way , care of no penalties , and better positioning and effort by foster , spurs win 3 zip . either way you could justify a 1 goal margin win to each side. let me make one or two points about tactics that could have been decisive in spurs getting a victory over chelsea and finishing top 4 , one, respect the opposition in pressing . against man c , spurs brains trust dialed down the intensity of the press and conceded more meters of field position , in order to deal with man c transition game , and it worked , and it was decisive in delivering victory. the same level of respect should have been shown to maresca and chelsea , and we would all be here talking about a spurs win. but alas no, spurs went back to sledge hammer pressing and paid the price . sometimes against quality opposition its all about slowing down the outball, not getting the turnover . the paradox of pressing against quality is that quality usually finds away of dealing with it meanwhile you have less time to react. two, despite my misgivings about spurs press, there is a bigger problem, in that spurs did get men behind the ball when chelsea were transitioning , but the organisation and situational awareness of spurs was abysmal . the best way for me to illustrate this , is use a metric i call overload creation in the final third . that is how many times a team can get space and a numerical advantage in dangerous situations in and around the 18 yard box . i dont think there are any other data analysts in the epl that use this metric and i certainly know spurs dont , because if they did , they would see what i see , and done something about it months ago. chelsea managed to create 11 overloads in and around the 18 yard box to spurs 2 , in the first half , chelsea managed 4 to spurs 1 in the second half . so a 15 to 3 margin in the game , and that tilts the variance and outcome in chelseas favour. spurs get bodies back, but they are not marking or occupying the correct spaces , and its been happening all season, its almost as if no one at spurs coaching practice defensive structures in the final third , and if they are using a zonal system , then it needs to be better organised . get somebody in that understands the details in these things , because its a shambles . ange has been using the term sloppy goals lately, well thats code for all of the above spurs show respect to the opposition in more nuanced pressing tactics , and fix the defensive overload problem , they will be top 4 by the end of the season.
