I've been in Dallas for 13 years now, the eye is actually the result of a dispute between the property owner and the city over permits. They wanted to make it a business or something but the city refused to grant any permits so they "got back" at the city by placing the eye there as an eyesore to troll the city.

I was also in the 2nd grade at Waxahachie ISD during the JFK assassination. We were all brought to a particular teacher's classroom as a large group and our school principal announced it over the intercom. We were soon loaded on our busses to go home where we watched everything on TV. Even at seven years old I remember the surreal feelings of national trauma. It didn't matter what age you were - we were all feeling the same thing.

I live in Fort Worth Texas. I was barely a teen at the time our President was killed. He had flown in to Fort Worth the night before going to Dallas and my parents took us kids to see the plane come in. It was so exciting. When President Kennedy stepped off the plane the first thing I noticed was how handsome and tan he was. Jackie was beautiful. The next day in class it was announced the Kennedy had been shot and was heading toward Parkland hospital. The intercom came back on a little later to tell us he had died. We too went home from school and spent days in front of a black and white TV. It was sad and you didn’t want to watch, but you felt you must. Businesses where empty, nothing was going on, it was like the world stopped.😊

You covered many interesting places. Dallas has a LOT to see so you could not have possibly covered it in that length of time. Dallas also has some of the best variety of amazing restaurants in Texas. (It ranks pretty high in national rankings that I’ve read.) A couple more places that I love there are the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

The owner of the Joule Hotel wanted to build a parking garage for the guest. However, the city did not allow because they have building codes. The city said a parking garage there would be an “eyesore “ hence the eyeball. Well played I say!

Can you answer this. Why is a suspension bridge needed? I've seen creeks wider that have regular over passes. I understand the flooding, but usually suspension bridges are for so that ships can pass under. The river is not navigable. Is it for show???

When Kennedy was shot I was in 6th grade in east TX, about 3 hrs due east of Dallas. We were painting a mural at the back of the classroom when we were told. My dad picked us up in our family tan colored VW beetle. We watched things unfold on the b&w tv. The nation was truly in mourning during this sad time.

@@ThroughMyLens 14 spots wow. I don't think I could do that unless I spaced it out over 2-3 weeks. It is so easy to spend a lot of money at BBQ places because you get a little of this and a little of that, 1/2 lb here, 1/2 lb there and before you know it, you are at $100. Plus some of the places only take cash so you got to ready for that too. I love visiting those places. The smells are heavenly.

Pops and I have got to be about the same age. I too remember this time as being a huge event. I was practicing for a play in the 3rd grade. Mr. Myers, ran into the auditorium and there were two television sets on high frames. He turned them around facing the chairs. It was surreal. The drum beat went on forever on television. Regular television programming was off for several days. I too saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald. This is definitely on my list of places to go. I want to go on the JFK walking assassination tour. Then head to San Antonio, stopping by Waco. Another huge event. I'm a traveler myself. It's all about learning. Thanks for the comment! Yea, so much to explore in Dallas for sure, we didn't even scratch the surface. We went to Cattleack for BBQ, Salty for donuts and Dallas Farmers Market for dinner

I went to Dallas a month ago to visit family. Parking is very expensive there. Where did you park to see all these things? Where do you recommend parking?
