Beach umbrellas work great until the wind picks up, and then they collapse, invert, and fly away turning into tumbleweeds of death. The problem is that they act as a parachute, catching the wind. What if a sunshade could be made to work with the wind?

I have some improvements to make it easier to set up and move around, and planned improvements to allow the shade to be used in no wind and reduce the flapping and noise in high winds.

Great idea. I think I would do 2 king sheet to provide larger area of shade.

That would probably work well, because there's room to go wider, especially if you use 25ft poles like in description.

It's super easy. A single sheet is not as big (good for 2-3 people), but you can sew 2 edge to edge to make it wider.

@@engineerable yes thanks! Im purchasing 2 California king sheets which are 6” longer than standard king. I just hope that together they aren’t too wide.

We r at Panama City beach right now and saw these sails in use by several beach goers. I was shocked when I came home and saw the prices online. Yikes!!

@@roger3958 it will work best with the 25ft poles amzn.to/3sp8VPf like the large Shibumi. In the video I use 20ft poles, cause it's what I had. The large size sail is about 15-17 ft wide by 9 ft long.

@@roger3958 me too 😂, I sorta get it being made in USA and if they are sourcing parts that are also made in USA, it can get expensive, and then retailers want to make 50%. But I couldn't stomach that for something I could easily make out of scrap parts.

How much UV protection does a standard bedsheet provide?

@@brandonkellogg9590 Depends on the material. Cotton or nylon don't provide much protection. Polyester provides a lot, which is what beach shirts are made of.

What improvements would you make to the design?

This is a great idea. You can also use carabiners to attach the cord from the "tent" to the sand bag so that it's easier to just clip on and off without tying a knot each time specially if you're like me who don't know how to do a good knot lol😁 Oh and waterproof fabric might be a good idea too.

@@budgettech5526 Great Ideas! I'm going to make a video of packing it up. I don't have to undo the knots or make new ones to setup again. I don't even take the fabric off. Just pull the poles apart, fold, and roll the fabric around. So easy! I'm researching some fabric, ripstopbytheroll.com , to use for a new waterproof fabric version.
