This song was the first song Metallica made a music video for. To get the full impact of this song the music video should be watched. It has clips of the movie "Johnny Got His Gun" which are intertwined in the music video.

Should really just do a live stream to this entire album. It is amazing from beginning to end, and to me it is the crown jewel of their collection. One was based off of the 1971 film Johnny Got His Gun, it is even a more powerful song when watched with the video which includes scenes from the movie.

I love how T says he has a feeling this is going to make him sad, yes it is very sad but also beautiful musically. This is one of Metallica’s best songs in my opinion.

The best Metal song ever written in my opinion, and definitely the best song/music video combo in history.

As awesome as the video is for this song, I'm really glad you reacted to just the song first. The video is a masterpiece, like some other comments have stated, but the clips from the movie do kinda get in the way of the details of the song in some parts. Now that you've heard the song, you should definitely go back and experience the video. This is 100% my favorite Metallica song.

Had a chuckle about 15 years ago. A cover band was playing Metallica and two young ones thought it funny that an Old Guy would rock out. Then I told them I'm the same age as the actual group

This song is about a soldier back from war he's laying in a hospital because he got blown up and he's in a coma being kept alive by machines he can't move speak hear open his eyes make any contact of any kind with the outside world or receive any he's locked away in the darkness of his own mind and it's driving him so crazy he just wants to die war is evil because it can do a lot worse than kill a person .

You rock man! Great interpretation of one of Mettalicas best...deep and disturbing but probably so meaniful to the many servicemen and servicewomen that went through the horrors of war.....

You should check out the "Land Down Under" - "One" mashup if you want a good laugh. Usually I am not a great fan of mashups but that one combines 3 great songs in a shockingly great manner.

I was never much of a metal fan till my nephew dragged me to the Monster's Of Rock Tour. Metallica was awesome with Jane's just singing without his guitar dye to a pyrotechnics explosion that almost cancelled the tour. I'm just a fan of there older material but don't understand why some of there fans completely reject there album releases from the 4th album going forward. Anyways this is the song that started it all with there first video release which at one time they swore they would never do any videos but to me it was Destin to release a video as so much they purchased a Hollywood Movie Rites to use in the One Video. Way Thumbs Up to this song appearing on there 3rd Album

That right right there, is Metallica's crowning achievement. It was always regarded as Metallica's finest song. I was 13 in 1988, and we all raved about One. We Metalheads loved it! I always liked Iron Maiden much more than Metallica, but this is what I consider Metallica's best song to this day.

They took out most of the base parts on this whole album cuz they didn't feel that Jason Newsted could play Cliff Burton Bass parts. This was their first album without Cliff it is a great album and to true Metallica fans it was the last great album. The Black album was good but a lot of people think that's the album they sold out on. To me Master of Puppets and Ride the lightning were the best.

If the songs ever have an original video with them it is usually best to always do the video with the song. Like others stated, to get the full impact go back and watch the video along with listening to the song. If not told ahead of time how will anyone know to do that? The video will make you see this song in a different light.

Thanks for doing the studio track, I would have skipped it if it was the video like every other channel does, besides.... the video has talking and effects though the entire thing, so it's pretty annoying for a 1st time listen. T you should put the dates in the description so we know how far back you threw this reaction....😋

Now when did you change this? You used to say that you liked laughing at the old 80's hair metal videos, especially the ones that were "stripper songs", you even put those nasty stripper clips over your videos for some of them. All you were missing was the sawdust on the floor and beer nuts on the table next to you...🧐

The thing is, the actual album song doesn't have the all important voice over by the soldier. His thoughts aren't in the album version hence you won't get the full meaning of it. The video clip has it.
