Each SHINee song hits differently but some are timeless in my opinion. The MVs are great but their concerts and live performances are a completely different story, the vocals and dancing are much better

"View" (2015) is another SHINee song that introduce a new genre to Kpop -- Deep House. Although SHINee had some creative license (more than most groups) prior to 2015, "View" marked the point where SHINee became more the masters of their career. Jonghyun wrote the lyrics for the song, and Key, who had always dabbled in SHINee's fashion & costuming, became an actual SM fashion director. His very relaxed styling for "View", rather than the standard highly ornate costumes, caused a stir in the industry. So much so, that all the other groups emulated it. This song became one of the most popular at that time. It was an instant hit. It was also a more relaxed choreo for them. In fact, they all said it was a choreo where they never ran out of breath while performing or singing. Ironically, Ian Eastwood, who was their choreographer for the song, stated that SM kept going back to him (2x) stating he had to make the choreo harder. Ian couldn't believe the guys had no problems with it. You can see him talk about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWi7YquvfK2inZo beginning at the 18:23-minute mark. The MV was shot in Thailand with Thai models. The concept was that SHINee was so hard-working that they very rarely took breaks (which was true), so when they arrived in Thailand, the girls kidnapped them to give them a vacation.

SHINee's "Married to the Music" was also released in 2015 and it's supposed to be fun and upbeat, because they are "Married to the Music." The MV has a very "Rocky Horror Picture Show" vibe, and it's just about as iconic of a cult classic as that movie as well. The color of those drinks is pearl aqua, which is SHINee's official fandom color, so you will see that color in almost everything to do with SHINee. In the MV the girl in the wedding dress was collecting the best body parts from each of the members to create her ideal man. She burned Minho's head because what she wanted was his body. She used fire because Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma" because of his passion for life and sports/games and his need to always win. Minho has the best body of the group, so, she took Minho's body, Key's head, Onew's nose, Taemin's eyes and Jonghyun's lips (for obvious reasons. LOL). As we saw at the very end of the video, she spliced them all together and formed her perfect guy. In the end credits you see a person that has been created from all of the members' body parts, which is supposed to be the guy the girl created. In other words, music is a very fickle girl and she controls your life by picking and choosing the best parts and mashes them together to create the perfect song. Fun fact: As part of SHINee's MV archives they used to have the rubber eyes, nose and lips, etc. that were created from molds of the members actual body parts and used as props in this MV, on display in the SM museum. We now know where Key gets his sassy personality from because we discover he is full of lemons. And when she takes Onew's nose we see Onew's blood is orange like nacho cheese because he is known for his cheesy jokes, as the "old man" of the group, etc. LOL. Their outfits and hair are supposed to look like they are dressed for a retro Halloween party. There isn't a dance practice for this song, but if you want to see the choreography even better, you should watch a live comeback stage. There is a lot more to this dance than you see in the MV. And if you check out their comeback stages, you will see their bow ties look like bats and some of their hats have witches' fingers, etc. (Every time they performed this song on music shows their outfits are different, so it's worth checking out more than one performance to see just how fun their outfits and stages were.) Everything's supposed to have that fun, campy horror/comedy look and feel. You should see the behind-the-scenes footage of them filming the MV, kzbin.info/www/bejne/i53clIWfh8mDrcU. This will give you an even better look at just how much detail and work went into everything to do with "Married to the Music" and why it's such an iconic song. "Married to the Music" is considered a Halloween must watch within the fandom and most of us make this MV part of our Halloween tradition every year. However, this song and MV came out in August, nowhere near Halloween. Halloween isn't really a big deal in Korea and it has only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant. But, the middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills, which cools them down when it is hot. So, that's probably why they came up with this concept for "Married to the Music" as an August comeback theme. SHINee really are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. Case in point, SHINee is known for being one of the very first groups to ever dress up in full costume for Halloween. They first did it for a fan meeting in 2013, and then they decided to show up to SM's annual company dinner in costume. They had so much fun in costume that it gave Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) the idea to hold a costume party. Now SM is known for going all out for Halloween every year. (In the past SM's annual Halloween events have been like the Met Gala of Halloween parties, and it's usually attended by some of the biggest name celebrities in Korea.) As part of the party there is a costume contest and, in the past, the person with the best costume has won an all-expenses paid vacation trip. (SM Entertainment members are known for being some of the most competitive. They are the ones who go all out when it comes to dressing up -- always trying to outdo each other. So, it's a pretty steep competition among the top contenders every year. And each year they have to come up with something better than what anyone did the year before.) Key is very competitive when it comes to fashion, costumes included, and the last time he attended the Halloween party in 2018 he won. He came as Voldemort from Harry Potter. He hired a team of famous TV and movie makeup artists to make him look like the real character. Check out, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIbWea2OiJtpd9k, to see just how amazing his costume really was. And in 2021 -- which was the first year the SHINee members were able to attend since the pandemic cancelled the event the previous year, and this was the first year since Onew, Key and Minho were discharged from the military -- Onew kept the tradition going. Onew dressed up as The Penguin from Batman for SM's Halloween House Party, and he received the award for best dressed. You have to see how spot-on his costume was as well, kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKqvoniieJinZrM. SHINee are the reason why Kpop groups and artists now dress up in costume and film special dance practice videos or do special things, etc. for Halloween. SHINee are such influencers that, one year when Key dressed up like Ronald McDonald from McDonald's and Onew was Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), they created such a buzz and went viral worldwide that Key says McDonald's sent him a giant stack of coupons for free meals as a thank you for the advertising.

I think Don't Call Me is their most difficult choreography nowadays, but Everybody held that title for a long time - they used to say that they'd taste blood after finishing dancing it. :P And about heat stroke, that pretty much nearly happened this one time they performed it outside in the summer (what an effort! it wasn't their first song of the night either): watch?v=8ejNRE8mzwo

"Married to the Music" (2013) was the title song (and title) of their repackaged "Odd" album which featured "View" as the title song. Although MTTM was released in August, it became the quintessential Halloween song. They guys had a lot of fun with this one. They included SHINee World (fandom) by using the pearl-aqua color for the "juice", which is SHINee's signature color. The concept is a bride is seeking to make the perfect groom. Therefore, she takes her desired features from each SHINee member -- Key's head; Taemin's eyes; Onew's nose; Jonghyun's lips, and Minho's body -- to create her perfect groom. At the very end of the video, when the title appears in red, you see a spotlighted picture of a person in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. That is the appearance of the groom she created using the features of each of the guys. SHINee often links their MVs to MVs for their other songs and even across their solo works. MTTM is linked to Onew's single MV for "Dice", almost as if it's a continuation of MTTM. It's quite interesting with the same bright colors, motifs, and funkiness. Thank you for taking us down memory lane. If you continue your journey with SHINee, you will soon realize that they are always trying something new with each comeback. Their entire 15-year discography is an eclectic mix of genres, as well as experimental music they mashed together on their own.

Being the original experimental group that they are, SHINee's "Everybody" actually introduced the Kpop industry to the Dubstep genre. It wouldn't be the last time that SHINee was the first group to introduce a new genre to Kpop either. Their ability to being able to really sing live while performing, even with this song is because they used to sing while running together to train their stamina. SHINee was also famous for having the most difficult choreos of that time. "Everybody" was no exception. It replaced SHINee's "Lucifer" (2010), then "Sherlock" (2012) as the most difficult in Kpop and was never covered by any other group until 2019/2020(?) by a group on "Road to Kingdom". This is significant when you realize that not only is this choreo nuts as it is as you can see from this dance practice: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYbJaJuYpdJ5gsk , but then they actually performed it 2x faster on a variety show: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZa6hqqKq96NjKM Poor Key was sick for this episode so didn't feel well, but what was hilarious is that Taemin was so happy the entire time he was doing it and so very relaxed. The most iconic and BEST live of this was during their 2014 Tokyo Dome performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpC5e5Kcocx4jNE . No one was doing these things prior to SHINee. They set the standards through which Kpop has evolved into what it has become today. EXO, NCT, (which SHINee actually mentored prior to the trainees' debut) and even BTS acknowledge this and cite SHINee as the standard other groups measure themselves by and BTS's Suga stated that their manager told them to model themselves after SHINee.

i can already tell they were ahead of the game in a lot of aspects, the double speed dances are always fun to watch. It sucks that he was sick during it, that has to suck to be sick and still be in the spot light

Everybody has never been one of my favorite songs, but the choreography is just so inventive and expertly done. The lyrics to View were written by Jonghyun (the one who is usually singing the wild ad libs) with the mental condition synesthesia in mind. While I don't (think I) have that condition, I'll admit it kinda hits my brain a little differently. If you ever get into Jonghyun's solo work, especially his B-sides, you'll see more of what I mean. While some may not like his songs, they are not boring or typical. I did a quick scan of some of your earlier reactions and watched the one on Lee Hi's "Breathe." Given that Jonghyun wrote that song, I think you'll find a lot of his "sad" songs hit just as hard. You almost have to listen to MttM first so that you don't get distracted by the MV. And while the main chorus seems to be just typical 70s/80s funk, the chord progressions and background drum beats are a bit subversive. It's a really really cool song when you dive into the details. Going through SHINee title track MVs, especially their most popular ones, is of course the best way to be introduced to them so I'd recommend keeping that up. A lot of people can get hooked a bit onto the group that way. But how you find out if you are a Shawol is to listen to B-sides, especially ballads and their live performances. It's a long journey to get there though, and you're covering a lot of other groups, so I wish you luck!

In "Everybody" SHINee are supposed to be toy soldiers and they get their energy and power from the fans. So, in the MV the "creepy" boy or robot, or whatever you want to call him is supposed to represent Shawols who are using their energy to power the SHINee members up. The boy plugs in the power, which sends the electricity to the grid on the floor where the members are laying and it activates Key, which then sets off a chain reaction that proceeds to activate the rest of the members. The fans power SHINee up with their energy and that's why in the beginning they wake up from the floor and in the end, they run out of energy and they disengage and fall back down to the floor to wait for the Shawols to come and power them back up again. All the moves and everything you see, including the way they are dressed, is supposed to remind you of how a toy soldier would look and move. At one point you see Minho give the members an energy boost by pulling Key's pull string, winding Jonghyun's windup key, using a defibrillator to jumpstart Taemin and activating Onew by turning him on with a remote control. In the middle of the performance, where they come together and create that picture in their dance, they are supposed to look like an airplane, that's why Onew spins his arms round really fast like the propeller of a plane. The plane has to do with the fact that they are soldiers and they are depicting a scene from a battle during the Korean War. And the scene with the chess board is showing how they are soldiers engaged in battle as they advance across the board. It's a metaphor for how life is full of a series of moves and countermoves. Similar to the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Harry, Ron and Hermione have to play the life-size wizards chess game to get to the Chamber of Secrets. Yet again, SHINee are trendsetters, EDM Dubstep was a new style of music and sound when "Everybody" came out in 2013, and they introduced the genre to the Kpop industry. And combining that with popping, locking and robotics as part of the choreography was also new. (This song and MV was one of the many reasons why SHINee won artist of the year at the Melon Music Awards in 2013, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious awards in Kpop.) And yes, 4 out of the 5 of them have major high notes in "Everybody." That is what makes SHINee so mind blowing. :D If you like this choreography, then you have to check out the dance practice for "Everybody," kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYbJaJuYpdJ5gsk. Make sure you click on the CC button so you can understand what they are saying at the beginning of the practice. This is one of SHINee's most iconic dance practices. SHINee has performed almost every one of their songs in concert, so there are live performances of even most of their B-side tracks. However, if there is an MV then that means that most likely it was one of the songs they promoted with. Therefore, it's probably really famous, which means they have definitely performed it in concert many times. All of SHINee's MV songs have become classics, which means they perform them all the time in concert, on variety shows, on award shows, etc. You will find dozens of live performances of "Everybody," as well as all their MV songs. If you want to hear the Japanese version of "Everybody," check out their performance at their SHINee World Concert 2014 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpC5e5Kcocx4jNE. This is considered one of their most intense and difficult dances and yet they are able to dance just as hard as this, all while singing live and killing it the whole time. Fun fact: Every time they performed this song as part of a comeback stage performance their military-style outfits were a different color. They even had an aqua blue version that was the same color as their fan color. SHINee's comeback stage outfits are some of my favorite of any Kpop group, and they are different every time they perform, but they always stick to the theme of the song or album so it's fun to see every one of their performances just to see what their outfits look like each time. In your free time look up some comeback stage performances and see what I mean. "Married to the Music", "Dream Girl" and "Everybody" were some of my favorite eras.

View is the kind of song that gets stuck in your head. I don't have much to add about Shinee after what I added last time since plenty of people know them better. It might be a good time for Sistar or their subunit of Sistar19 (Hyolyn and Bora). Sistar19 has a comeback coming out next week. "Push Push" is the debut song for Sistar. "Alone" and "Give It To Me" are great examples of one side of Sistar, while "Shake It" and "Touch My Body" are great examples of another side. For Sistar19, Ma Boy is the one song you should for sure check out (especially since their comeback is "No More (Ma Boy)"), but "Gone Not Around Any Longer" is great. Sistar19 only did the two songs until now.
