As a professional videographer/dp I can relate to Ed's experiences of people trying to use him for his filmmaking skills. I've met people I thought were cool, only to then find out they only wanna get to know me to create a free music video or short film for them. Absolutely enfuriating. Sometimes when I introduce myself to people I downplay what I do as a job because I don't want to deal with people who only want to use me.

55:49 Oh my gawsh. David - you just gave me major throw back vibes when I first encountered your videos way back when with your Viet and Canto impressions. As a Canto speaker, I remember at the time thinking for a hot second you were of Cantonese descent from those videos just because you were able to enunciate it well to the T. Thanks for taking me a trip down memory lane 🙂

1:04:28 The very first piece of stand-up comedy that I ever experienced was Anjelah Johnson's Vietnamese Nail Salon bit. And it was shown to me by my mom... who is a Vietnamese Manicurist lmao. She and her co-workers absolutely DIED laughing at the accuracy of this bit. That's how legendary that piece of comedy is.

I can relate to being disrespected for your craft so badly. Long story short, dude tells me I'm trash at my craft after seeing me do something, but then a few days later I see him doing the exact same thing. To put it lightly, he was acting like a f****** loser. Thanks for talking about this on this podcast, my dumb self thinking I was the only one who was in this situation

The "I have no friends but it's everyone else who's the problem" people are so funny. I knew one that actually said, "people think I'm pretentious but I'm actually just really misunderstood" 😂. This same person is also the type to ask you for help then blame you when things go wrong even when it's blatantly their fault.
@Vincisomething
@Vincisomething 3 жыл бұрын
@Pyat Pree she's friends with the rest of Jk, David, and others 🤨. Being misunderstood is one thing (many are) but saying you never had friends ever and blaming others is another. You can be misunderstood and still have friends lol

I hate that people used to think that I used to be one of these guys. Do for me I just generally used to be confused whether or not the situation was me or if everybody else was just going through their own shit. And I don't mean like oh it's everybody else that's the problem that I don't have friends, more like daily we're just going through some shit that they weren't comfortable with me opening up about. And I wasn't sure if they were just boy through so much and would get so stuck on themselves and trying to fix themselves that it seemed like they either didn't care or just wanted to push away possible friendships because they were afraid of getting hurt again. Some of them not all of them. Others we probably just go to parts, I'll see you wore the type to complain that they don't hang out with a lot of people but at the same time we don't actively try to even seek people out. one buddy of mine I told him to throw his face about how he claims he doesn't have a lot of people to hang out with it every time I and a few other people offer to hang out with them as they come by our house so we go by him, he denies it every single type you that I told him you can't complain that you're lonely We not only do you not seek people out, but you actively deny request offer you time and time again from me and other people. I couldn't tell you how many times I've offered to chill with him, hang out with him, I generally like to do and wants to be your friend. But it's life now I don't feel like, I know I'm lazy or probably not even about to just open the damn door. Well then you can't be upset that nobody wants to hang with you when you're literally Denying my request and everybody else is request to hang out with you. unlike other people I've talked to before or have ever hang out with, at least he had enough self-awareness to recognize that and admit that I was right this was a bit of a flaw and characteristic he had. He also had enough self-awareness to recognize and admit he only does that cuz at the same time he's also still be comfortable being alone. Well that's cool bro, that's all fine and dandy bro going to do this shit we're comfortable with. But you can say you want to do something more when you actively have to get out of your comfort zone to do so. And complain that it's not happening. That's all I'm saying, at the end of the day we respected each other we would talk all the time I'll need to tell you each other straight each others face it'd be real with each other no matter what we were talking about. me and him just had this mutual respect where we can really talk about it too much anything even something serious shit and still be cool afterwards and laugh about it. If anything away kind of products closer as it did a lot of people in the air at the same mutual respect with a lot of other people who like I said also wanted to be more close with him. But he would deny deny deny him push back. but after really paying attention to a lot of other buddies of mine that had a similar situation with him, what do you got notice between him and all of them was this was just more of a defense mechanism they use cuz it's getting deep need to hurt before and it didn't want to be hurt again. And I was even recognize it cuz I feel like I've been there before. I'd recognize that type of Pinks I feel like I felt it. And I wanted them to hopefully open up pause again I understood what it was like and I also wanted them to not let that shit eat them away. Cuz it's one of my buddies who was coming to a lot of shit who I knew was pretty much wasted a lot of shit not only did he not hang out or chill with a lot of people, but he was also much very very very much it's a dark humor. The funniest fucken dude I ever knew from high school. Hilarious just awesome being around. The man was he going through a lot of shit I want to be surprised at He was hiding the fact that he was very suicidal. I don't even know that dude's a life right now. But I really hope whatever was bothering him didn't fucking it away at him. Because we completely stop talking by senior year and I ain't going to lie, I was honestly concerned for him the whole year. I was thinking for him just to open up and just say something before I do let it just completely consumed them. Maybe this is just me and my experience, but sometimes I feel like somebody being misunderstood is an understatement. Carmike's movies with the people I tried to be friends with, there is a shit ton of people in a lot of pain. Letting that dictate a lot of their decisions. Now he's able to recognize it because I pretty sure I did the same myself. Don't be surprised if I still do sometimes. well either that or people were literally just too busy with life. Play me quite a few people they just started taking up so many fucking responsibilities that I didn't send myself, dude how are you supposed to have a social life when you're doing all of this. I mean if that's what you're happy doing go for it, but you're putting so much time in this this and that, you're really have time for a friendship, Hell, doesn't even sound like you'll have time for family either. I wasn't once probably tell them how to do things, But I just sort of my friends like bro you got to slow down and give yourself a break. Nevermind. Even having a social life they were quite exhausted which is how much are taking on at the time and we were still in high school. I don't know what my situation was back when I was much younger, weather was a me or them situation. But in high school, I guess everybody's really just going about life. And just while trying to make decisions some of them on the Fly, you need something a bad decision on the way that pushed away possible friendship protection for ourselves or we do not have time or whatever the situation was. Looking back if I really wanted to I can easily go back and forth and back and forth and save know it was them know it was me, no it was said no it was me. It was both sides making their own mistakes. Nobody's really should blame their situation cuz only ones that really fucking more than anything is their selves. everyone that I knew either was just trying to figure out how to balance work and play, live with trauma, or David ended up doing their own thing and we grew apart. And or fell off. I'm disappointed that I didn't gain more friends out of all those interactions Oh, hell I don't have any friends from the high school at all. At least none that I've met there. I still have one homie sticking by me since even before high school and although I am still disappointed I didn't gain more friends from that High School itself, But I can't blame anybody for the Life they had just because they couldn't be part of mine.

Even in the spiritual community with manifestation and what people take as "woo woo" stuff (even though it makes more sense than people actually think), they still say you have to take action steps. Speak it into existence (have a pretty solid idea of what you want) and take action steps towards that goal. You still have to do your part and trust God/source/universe/etc has things lined up for you

한. It comes from us as Korean people. There's no exact way on how to describe the Han but it's anger, resentment but mixed with hope. I think the best way to explain it is that it's basically a sense of national identity and unity especially since 1907 when Japan annexed Korea and during the Korean War when families were separated. I hope that this is a good explanation. 👍😀

For sure had some friends but was never socially out there, was always in small towns in the midwest that was...alright. Im pretty self aware that its on me, I know im pretty easy to talk to, I just haven't put myself out there as much I always wanted to visit big cities like LA, just loved the vibe of it (yea I know, but its true!) People in the same towns as me would visit a place like LA and NYC and say that the people are rude and fake. I always thought THEY were crazy just because the people of the people I watched growing up who actually live in LA and y'all seem like the nicest fucking people The small town people want others to stop and say hi when people actually have places to go and aunt going to stop in their tracks just to talk to you unless its something like directions Also, maybe dont spend all your time in Hollywood and those super touristy areas Then again, thats what ive heard from actual LA people (or California people in general)
