Just started throwing knives. I use the Smith and Wesson Bullseye knives. Very evenly distributed. I also do the "no spin" technique. I like your philosophy on getting 10 in a row. Also, mad props for teaching golf. Glad to hear you are not a "one act man.". Sports have given me the ability to progress quicker in martial arts. Also...thanks for the tip on throwing the darts. I will have to try that!

Hey Jake ! My Favorite throwing dagger is the kunai i've been practicing from a few months the normal spin throws from which you hold the dagger from the blade do you think the no spin technique will work ? and if it will can you make some videos thank you you are great i love your videos !
@Tashio240
@Tashio240 10 жыл бұрын
I also favour the no spin technique, I find it allows for a better range of accuracy and distance.Mainly prefering the use throwing knives and ninja kunai, would so love to use shuriken as well but they are illegal here in the UK.

Great video jake and nice grouping too. I like to throw knives. I own a pair of kunai throwers which are pretty big and heavy. Haven't thrown them in a long time. Need a stump like your or a big stump in general. I would like to be able to throw some shuriken. I plan on making my own at some point. I like to throw from the handle. Some throw from the blade but there is a risk of cutting the fingers in my opinion. Thanks again.

ive never tried the needles but the daggers i always have thrown holding them by the blade and making a 180 degree turn. this is just how my dad showed me how to do it when i was a kid but im going to have to try your way it seems more practical and i am excited to get some needles and try those out.

I grew up with blades used as a utility tool. I was taught on the reservation how to throw bowie knives. The no spin is a common way of throwing knives, but there is far more it. After years of practice, and several destroyed trees, the one thing that its all about is knowing how to control your blade and what it can and csnt do at certain distances.

can you throw them back hand? always when i try back hand but fail more often throwing like that (especially at larger distances), while with normal throw (like you did) is no problem for me. id like to see your technique with that.
@betif00
@betif00 10 жыл бұрын
I find heavier and bigger knives easier to throw, especially as distance increases. That is because the force required to brush in the no-spin technique increases as weight of the knife increases...which allows for a more forgiving control of the knife. It's easy to over/under brush the knife when they are small and light....since they have to spin even more slowly as they travel further distance, they are harder to throw. I would recommend Flying Steel knives, I have mumyou-ryu style knives they sell (also use the mumyou-ryu technique, check on youtube the user "mumyouan").

I throw axes/tomahawks and knives, though I would love to get some throwing needles and throwing stars as well. I use a dead tree in the woods behind my house to throw tomahawks at, but I am planning to press several layers of cardboard together and duct tape them to make a star/needle/knife target and mount it on a plywood board. I have done both spin and no spin throwing, and while I am not very good at no spin yet, I prefer it because it is easier to estimate how to throw at different distances than spin throws. Unfortunately, I do not yet know of a no spin tomahawk throw lol, so I just throw those the traditional way.

I have a set of 11 1/2" throwing bouy knives (ex knife salesman).. they are balanced so the handle is half of the blade making more spins preferable.. depending on distance, I hold like a guitar pick from the tip of the blade with edge towards me or from the handle with index finger gripping as though its the trigger of a gun and edge facing target. The trick is to let the knife do the work.. RELAX!!.. you can "feel" when the knife will stick before it even makes contact.. after a few warm-up throws I average around 4 in 5 sticks.. I generally throw at bark-ridden oaks.. so most of my non sticks are robbed from me due to knots or clumps of bark on the tree.. use caution guys... I've dodged more ricochets than I can count.. enjoi!!.... jake... MORE STAFF VIDS!! I bought a rhatan staff before I even found you...ive learned a lot to date from you plus like 2 others vids on youtube.. but.. im knocking myself senseless and id like to learn fight worthy skills. Thanks brother... /bow... SUWON!!

Dont waste your money. If you want light weight needles. Cut a mettle coathanger with wire clippers. 6 inches is a decent start, otherwise measure from the tip of your pinky to the same side of your palm. If you have a grinder or sander, add a tip to them, otherwise throw at soft targets. Alternatively, go to any hardware store and buy some nails for heavier work. Trust me, if your beginning, you dont want to spend money on "good ones." needles are small and easy to loose in dirt leaves moss etc.

At 20 ft or 30 ft you use half spin throw for no spin throw and its all about the center of balance and putting your thumb and pointer finger in the center were its balanced thumb should line up on upper pointer finger knuckle on center of knife and a over head throw is used that's how I do it
