After all the years of Jeff Gerstmann regaling us with the history of the Mishima family, seeing it break someone as it gradually unfolds in front of them in one sitting is something special.

From me, an old industry guy who was there: this shit was pretty cutting-edge back in March ‘95. Toy Story came out later in the year and Jurassic Park had been around since ‘93, but fully rendered human characters and 3D backgrounds (ignoring the stock FMV footage and live-action children) was damn hard to pull off. Just now I’m noticing that some elements of these characters are smooth skeletal meshes, rather than the disconnected floating body parts you saw in-game (the industry referred to this as “sausage people”). Namco’s CG department was world-class at this point in time, having hired a lot of the folks from the prestigious Japan Computer Graphics Laboratory when it shut down in the 80s. Eventually it got to the point where Namco switched from an internal CG team to third-party contractors. A truly sad day.

1:06:00 A thing you should know, is that Gunjack's ending actually have 2 versions. Tekken 7's gallery only have the first one. In Tekken 3 if you finish the Arcade mode a second time, you get the second version where you see that Gunjack had put a shield to protect him and Jane.

I remember grinding for days to unlock all the endings on Tekken 3 as a small child and trying to figure out the lore from these fever dream cutscenes. It's to this day the only fighting game I have ever played. Thank you for this trip down memory lane, what a great video.

Part of the hilarity of Ranking of Fighters was the amount of effort they went into ordering everything, including justifying why one crappy game was slightly better than another crappy game. I love this kind of content. If you do it again with a different franchise, my suggestion is that everyone gives the scene a score out of 10 and then you rank them based on the sum (which you can use excel to quickly calculate). It would eliminate the debates over where exactly to rank them
