Lithuanians used throwing spears till early 15th century. Good to know that they can be somewhat effective even against a knight in full plate armor.
@samnunnink75752 ай бұрын
I'd assume their main issue would be how much more expensive they are than arrows, and the fact that you can only carry so many. Otherwise they seem just as effective, a good ranged option where if you get lucky enough you might end the fight quickly. The range of the bow is probably why they were used more, but in environments like this, where you're going to have a lot of cover, that probably matters less.
@romgl45132 ай бұрын
@@samnunnink7575 Ranged options were always preferable, in a forest you can't shoot far, so spears are better, more mass, more blade.
@samnunnink75752 ай бұрын
@@romgl4513 That's what I assumed. I do wonder at what point an arrow becomes stronger. I assume that with enough acceleration we could give it more force than the spear but I don't know if they had a bow strong enough to do that for most of the medieval times.

Its good to meet a fellow Lithuanian military enthusiast. Also I wonder if this is what a Lithuanian boyar would also look like in the 14th century, because the look is pretty similar🤔
@АнтонОрлов-я1ъ2 ай бұрын
@@g4gaming809 As far as I understand, the Lithuanian weapons and armor at that time were a weird mix of native equipment (such as Lithuanian pavises and throwing spears) with a lot of Eastern (mostly from Rus') and Western (Polish and German) influences. Since the warrior on the video is equipped in Novgorodian armor, I think some Lithuanians may be equipped like that, especially since there were cases of Lithuanian princes serving in Novgorod.

As always the fights are as relistic as possible, the scenography is beyond beautiful and the filming is top notch quality. I'm a bit tired of always expressing the same compliments, you should consider doing something bad once in a whie, you know... Just for the sake of change. I particularly loved the double welding sword/spear, that's simple and clever. I have one question: the spear trown against you seemed somewhat effective, i guess that at least once hit a soft spot, but do you think that would be a realistic strategy? Would you seriously recommend and hipotetic aggressor to ambush a full plated knight by throwing to them a few spears?
