FINALLY!!!! I have watched the videos on the Thule site, looked at every image, read the manuals, had live chats, watched other videos and NO ONE ever answered my question about a single bike anti-sway mechanism - I now know who I am going to be purchasing this from. Just to help you get more views - make a shortened version with a bike already attached and just show adding the anti-sway mechanism (from multiple angles if you could). I've seen this question asked a lot.

Definitely not a Thule, this single bike anti-sway mechanism does not work at all. Either it is completely torn and turned sideways or the bike is halfway out in the street. I am completely disappointed by this rack.

We bought this for our Mini Cooper S. We had problems tightening the cables till the clicks occurred. The cables kept getting tighter and tighter and noises, like our hatch glass might break kept happening, but no clicks. The pictures of the enclosed manual don't really make sense w/o the video.

You may need to use the spoiler reinforcement supplied with the rack to give the cables something sturdy enough to latch on to before you can fully tighten them.

I have the same problem as you, Valerie. I'm glad you flagged it on here. Did you get it worked out? Did Thule provide any insight? I don't think adding the adding the additional straps solve the problem. At least they didn't for me.

I agree that the additional spoiler support isn't helpful ...for my vehicle (Mini). Have you received any insight from Thule?

@@yao4738 Yao, It fits just fine. The spoiler isn't the issue. The cables "hook" into the hinges area between the door and roof. The issue is that the cable system does not make the clicking sound that the instructions say it will make when it is locked into place. The cables are taut, but no amount of continued turning brings on the desired "click." It's as if the system is malfunctioning

I have an F56 MCS and this rack works just fine (it clicked twice on both sides). I did notice that the gap between the trunk and roof increased by a millimeter or two after installation.

In Italy (even if it's available) could be a problem without a clear license plate. It results totally hidden by the bicycles.

With the pads seating on the edge of the glass, would the glass support the pressure without breaking?

Hey Fernando, thanks for watching! If the Thule OutWay is a confirmed fit for your vehicle, placing the rack with the correct pad on the edge of the rear glass will not damage the glass in any way.

I ended up having to use the flat pads on my '20 civic sedan pressing atop the hood of the trunk, as the lip of the trunk had a petite spoiler with model trim sedan which made the L shaped pads not secure at all.

In cases where the vehicle has a spoiler lip they do recommend using the flat pads, or will say that the rack is not a compatible fit. In Thule's fit guide in the fit lookup it should specify which to use if you input your vehicle information.

@@rackwarehouse Yeah, I did check that out before purchasing the outway hanging 2 (just to make sure I was also purchasing a compatible rack). It did say that installation of the carrier required the sedan fitting kit for my vehicle, but after installing I couldn't find a way that would give a secure fit using those sedan pads pressed against the spoiler.

Thanks for watching! On some vehicles it is possible to open the hatch with the Thule OutWay installed. This is a very case by case situation however, and is not possible on most vehicles. Vehicles with a hatch style opening are likely to work, where as sedans and sportback style will not open and close correctly with the trunk rack installed. How does it work with heavier bikes (17kgs)? I've bought the Outway Platform for lighter bikes (~15kgs), but I'm not satisfied with all the noise it makes when driving on uneaven terrain + wind resistence is mind blowing...

On amazon it says max 66lbs on 2 hanging and max 99lbs on 3 hanging (divide by 2.2 to get kg) if the bike is less than 33lbs you should be good, otherwise you'd probably be ok with just carrying the one heavy, but Thule doesn't recommend. It's all aluminum tubing so once there's a dent or a bend it's basically ruined.

I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. kzbin.infoUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...

Hi Doug, It's likely the knobs on your rack are in the locked position currently. In this position, the rack will allow you to spin the knobs as long as you want with no progress tightening the rack being made. To remedy this, try taking your key provided with the rack, and inserting it into the lock core on each knob. See if the lock core can be turned, then remove your key. Once you've done this, give tightening the rack another try. I have a feeling this will solve your issue. If it does not, it is certainly possible that you need to tighten the rack more. On some fits with this system, the tension of the straps can make it seem like the knobs are getting really tight, but I can assure when the rack is placed in the proper location, and fit notes are followed for your specific vehicle no damage to the vehicle will be done. The click is a symbol of the max torque rating the rack should be tightened to, and should always be reached on each fit. Hope this helps!
