I had fiberwire cmc surgery a year ago. Results are great. I am 77. Patients need to remember that recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.😊

I had LRTI on my left in 2009 and my right in 2014. I was 64 yo at the time of my first surgery. Previously to surgery, I could not pick up a carton of milk. After surgery I had therapy for about six months on each hand and by one year the hand was like new. I could do anything that I could do before arthritis in the hand. After about ten years, the only thing to show for the procedure are the two scars. Both thumbs have normal movement and strength.

Thank you for sharing your great story! My first surgery is next week and this gives me hope!

@@mikebasson3798 You will get discouraged about 3-4 months after surgery as nothing will seem to move. Just keep working through the therapy. Do not stop. It will all loosen up. Total healing takes a year but it is worth it in the end 👍

Great video! Just had my second CMC surgery, I’m 60. My right hand was 5 years ago and it is feeling excellent my surgeon did the tendon procedure as well. January 18, 2024. I just did my left hand I am 2 1/2 weeks in just had my cast removed, and now in a removable splint. I guess I forgot how painful this really was….The end result is amazing. Just hang in there have trust in your medical advisors, it does get worse before it gets better, although you will not regret your decision I have forwarded this video to friends that have been having this issue! Best of luck, you will have no regrets!! Sue

This video is fantastic! Dr Goll you are a wonderful teacher and expert. I watched 11 videos tonight and yours is by far the best! I am having this surgery next week and have been scared to death as it is on my right hand. And I am right handed. I am retired and play competitive racquetball and pickleball and can barely hold the racquets. I pray this fixes the problem . Now I understand what the dr is going to do and I am no longer scared thanks to you! You ROCK!

Excellent video. Had this thumb surgery 5 weeks ago and this video reinforces much of the info I was given initially but forgot some of it. Length of recovery is the most surprising part of this surgery. Much longer than I had hoped. Thanks for the video

This was a great video! I am in Birmingham and seeing a ortho hand surgeon. This helps me explain to my husband what is wrong and why at some point I will need surgery.

Suffering with this in my left thumb now - going for my third injection since last September in 2 days. The shot is not lasting as long as it did in the beginning. The burning sensation I experience while driving/holding steering wheel is enough to make me cry at this point.

I have arthritis in both thumbs but left is worse. I’m hoping to have this surgery in the next 6 months or so. I have a great orthopedic hand surgeon. Just need to get it scheduled. This video was the best I’ve seen on this subject. Thank you!

had it done a little over 6 weeks ago and my thumb is as stiff as it gets, and the entire thing was way more painful than i ever expected, but i am not giving up, this will take time and i try to make the best of it

You are at the worst point. Keep up with the therapy and the movement and strenth will start coming back. It takes 10 mos to a year before the hand is completely normal.

Well explained. I have done a lot of research on this and I am very likely to have the surgery in the near future. I had a cortisone injection today for the first time and I know it is a temporary measure until I nail down a surgeon. Thanks for putting this video out there, more people should watch it. I have lived with the pain for 5 years and it's time to do something.

My sports orthopedist told me to live with my arthritis because if I have the surgery, I will never hold a hammer again. I like to work in my shop and my hands are very important to me.

I’m a contractor and had the surgery on my left hand 3 years ago. Had a longer recovery due to the type of work I do, but don’t regret it at all. Hand feels as good as new and I can hold anything with it. Probably going to have to have the right done this year and have no second thoughts about it. My surgeon said he would perform the procedure on a 20 year old laborer if need be. It’s durable and works.

I had surgery 11 months ago and still have tightness, pain ..especially when tieing a shoe or buttoning a shirt. I do stretch and have full strength but still have pain but not like before..it’s a different pain now. I got a few cortisone shots since surgery and they did help. It was suspension arthroplasty with suture, no ligaments transfer. Index finger is also tight, surgical site still a little sensitive. Can suture have been too tight? After Surgery had a nerve study, no carpel but a little nerve irritation. Feels like bone sticking out at mcp joint on ulner side. Why would I still have issues 11 months out and is it safe to continue cortisone shot? Thank you.
