I was a fan of Thumbs since the early 70s. I was on the road for two years with his bass player Carrey Creasy in several bands. His Steel player Buzz Evans ( check out his videos on KZbin)was in Thumb’s band the “Cowboy Boogie Band” along with Carrey, Thumb’s daughter Tammy, and a drummer named Tommy. Awesome group they were. Buzz was gracious enough to send me a ton of tapes very few people will ever hear. Some of their full band, some with Thumbs solo( mind blowing!). Before he passed on he was working with a group of young jazz players in Atlanta, his version of Over The Rainbow still haunts me!!! I hope someday to be able to share these recordings with true fans of the man. Thank you for posting this video. RIP Thumbs, you are in my heart forever.

Damn I bet he saw this guy and copied him. Being blind was all just a diversion. That sneaky bastard.

@@popbattles7855 So your shallow mind thinks that as he progressed out of all the musicians he encountered no-one ever bothered to mentioned Thumbs Carlisle to him? 🫵🏻🤡👍🏻

Everyone thought Jeff Healey was so innovative with his ability to play the same way. This cat predates Jeff by about fifty years, this cat has a very nice tone and sound.

I've been playing for 50+ years and never heard of Thumbs before. Not improbable that JH hadn't either, not least because JH started playing that way when he was about 3 years old and blind.

Wow never heard of this guy. Jeff Healey was the only one I'd seen playing like that. The backing band were some fine players

Thumbs loved to play jazz over country progressions. He preferred simpler harmonic structure because it gave him more relative freedom to improvise.
