@@giacomoromano8842 I wouldn't say Ody has made constant mistakes though? Like, the sirens weren't a mistake, him warning them not to kill the cow was not a mistake, etc. Like, Ody letting six people die was not good morally, but it was not a mistake (well, maybe a moral mistake, but not really a strategic mistake; if u are being really cold about it), it was a calculated (and pretty cold) choice he made to get back to his wife. They then munity against them, and say he should take all the blame as captain. And stab him. And despite that, he still tries to warn them about the cow, and begs them not to kill it, and tires to get them out of there before Zeus comes. Like, it was probably at least partially so he wouldn't die so he can back home to his family, but he still tried to get them out of there, at least. And then Zeus came and basically forced him to choice between himself and his crew, for a mistake that wasn't his. Not saying him choosing himself, so he can get back to his family and home, over crew and friends was good. But at the same time, he was about to be punished for a mistake he did not make, and tired to warn others about and tired to get them to stop, but they didn't. I can understand why they didn't stop, they are tired, hungry, etc., and just human, but they still made a big mistake, that Ody tried to prevent them from making. I am not saying Ody didn't make his own mistakes and/or (very) morally questionable choices. But this is quite he uncharitable look of events here. Imo. For reasons I explained.
@zomorion91833 ай бұрын
@Dragon_Aoi Even the morality question of sacrificing 6 men to Scylla is... debatable, at best, since even in the original Odyssey, his 2 choices were between Scylla and Charybdis i.e. get 6 people killed or all of them killed. And let's not forget, GODDAMN POSEIDON is afraid of Scylla (Sirenope literally says "He's afraid to roam" when describing Scylla's lair), the same Poseidon that EFFORTLESSLY destroyed 11 of Odysseus's 12 ships. In other words, not sacrificing anyone and fighting her would have also gotten them all killed. If you sat there in the middle of the sea, you would also die. Tell a crew with people (that are traitorous, stupid and selfish) like Eurylochus (Opened a bag when he was told not to, wanted to abandon multiple men in Circe's Island and then Mutiny. Remember Eurylochus said that to "greet it was our choice" when talking about them meeting Circe. That dumbass didn't even bother stopping his men from making a stupid decision, or at least convincing them to be careful, before trying to sack them off) that 6 men need to die? Those morons would find a way to kill themselves until only 6 people were left i.e. when going through Scylla becomes just as impossible as anything else. Odysseus royally screwed up with the Cyclops, make no mistake. But the path to Scylla wasn't a consequence of Odysseus' actions in the first place. And he STILL tried to make the best possible decision for his crew. Yeah, knowingly getting 6 people killed isn't "noble" by any stretch of the imagination, but it was the only option he had, because of reasons outside of his control. I don't think Odysseus is morally right or justified in Scylla, but he's not wrong here, either. The only times where Odysseus morally crossed the line so far were: Polyphemus (since in canon it's confirmed he shot the sheep in Polyphemus' cave), Remember Them (flat out lying to himself and the cyclops in saying he led with peace when he didn't, making the cyclops even more disdainful of what a human would call "peace". To say nothing of how he didn't kill the cyclops and crippled it instead, which was morally worse in ancient Greece) and, Different Beast (when he brutally killed all the sirens. You can debate if killing the sirens was necessary, but what you can't debate is how Odysseus made their deaths as miserable as possible). But I definitely see the future sagas, changing the number of times he crosses the line.

@thetruemasterofgames60224 ай бұрын
@denzilbrowder5509 not just that but thematically it makes sense as that would of most likely been zues's will anyway if it was up to him a part alot of people forget is alongside his massive ego Zeus was a justice bringer it's why we still today associate divine justice with lightning striking you down and when dealing with helios cattle well odyseus was the one person not to act. But odyesus was already wayyyyyyy on the bad side of the gods so this torment was partially psychological to put it on him two birds one stone. He gets his desired outcome of justice but ALSO to mess with the head of a mortal who dared play games with gods.

@@0axis771 That seems like a weird interpretation to me. For one, the choice was explicitly between odysseus and everyone else, so it's not like zeus was gonna kill odysseus. Three, it honestly looks more to me like odysseus was being launched backwards by the strength of the blast and eurylochus was reaching out for him. I feel like if the animator wanted eurylochus to push odysseus, they would have added a frame where the hand is actually touching.
@0axis7716 ай бұрын
@@kingacrisius 1) Yes, Odysseus WAS going to live, but Eurylocus acted on instinct and just pushed cause of the danger. 2) Yes, he was, but that's why it's a weird thing where he switched from using his sword to suddenly thrusting his hand to push Odysseus instead. It shows that in the end, he wasn't going through with attacking him. 3) Nope. 3:49, you see Eurylocus's hand on Odysseus's chest, so at 3:50, you see how it was Eurylocus pushing him.

3:49-3:50 Wait, hold on... Did... Did you have Eurylocus push Odysseus as if to save him? Cause it definitely looked like that was what he was doing, despite first coming at him with the sword. This Zeus, he isn't just a king. He is a living storm. The thunder, the lightning, the rain, the air itself, everything. It is more than clear he is not human, not only through his appearance, but also his power. He isn't just a king, isn't just a god. He is a force of nature, given flesh and blood.
@Sarah-Has-Arrived6 ай бұрын
I actually teared up seeing Eury getting consumed by lighting and then Ody seeing a vision of Polities and Eury as he passed out. Like that’s what he gave up - he embraced the monster, letting go of embracing the world with open arms, and just sacrificed his remaining men and brother. And Eury was literally grabbing his sword, about to try to go up against ZEUS of all gods for himself, the men, and ODY. I’m 😭😭😭 How dare you truamatize me in this way?!
@0axis7716 ай бұрын
Want me to traumatize you more? 3:50 Eurylocus is pushing Odysseus out, despite at first swinging his sword. It means that despite his anger at Odysseus choosing to let them die, Eurylocus still loved his brother and his last act was to save Odysseus.
@Sarah-Has-Arrived6 ай бұрын
@@0axis771 I didn’t see that as Eury pushing him out of the way - I saw it as him still trying to get to Ody to attack him for dooming him and the crew. But honestly I can’t tell. If that’s true then yeah that’s heartbreaking. 😭😭😭 There’s another version of Thunderbringer where the crew attacks Ody but Eury is the only one that DOESN’T. He just stands there in betrayal… but still can’t find it in himself to attack his brother. Like I side eye Eury is this saga a lot, but god Ody and Eury were brothers and they had already lost Polities and just… SO MANY EMOTIONS 💔💔💔

let me just tell you, the brain sparks that went off when I realised that Odysseus's vision/memory of Penelope was bright yellow, just like Zeus's lightning, how Odysseus's eyes were bright yellow when he said "I know", almost like Zeus was wielding his will and heart like he was wielding thunder. I like how brings up Odysseus is the king of Ithaca(1:28). It adds an interesting fact to consider. Odysseus needs to get back to his kingdom. Should he sacrifices himself for the few men with him or think about all those back home that need their king?

the end of Mutiny and then the beginning of Thunder Bringer is such "And then they all knew... they've done fucked up" it's CHEF'S KISS I also love how Jorge changed the "crew stupid for killing the cows, got themselves killed" to "crew stupid and got people killed but it's ODYSSEUS who actively chose his own live over them" it hurts SO WELL.
@KingIshimaru5 ай бұрын
The crew killing the cows was actually a kind of interesting case, since in the myth they were stranded on that island for over a month after Scylla killed six of them; they agreed with Odysseus's decision to leave the cows alone but the gods changed the winds and wouldn't let them LEAVE and there's nothing else to eat. When the supplies ran out and the men started to starve, it became a question of calculated risk; Odysseus has gone to pray for some kind of mercy but the gods have not, to say the least, been particularly nice to Odysseus's shipmates in the last decade. When they make the decision to kill a cow, Odyssey's version of Eurylochus knows it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't decision, but if they eat something there is a chance they can make it home to Ithaca and make things right with Helios through sacrifice. In the likely event they're killed in divine retaliation for the transgression...Eurylochus and the others agree with starvation looming if the gods have decided they're gonna die then let's just fucking get it over with. I do like Epic's change to have Odysseus not get to be a bystander in the ultimate end of his crew, agreed!

This is so damn good!!!!! You killed me with the end! SO here are details I loved! -Zeus lowering the atmospheric (is it atmospheric?) pressure when he says "apply all the pressure" was perfect! I could feel my ears ringing as if I had been there. -Zeus randomly hurting the crew, toying with them. -Zeus' hair as clouds? love it. Also him constantly shape-shifting when he was up in the clouds, sometimes taking a specific form, sometimes just being a cloud- love it, gives him versatility and him being the god of the sky, it makes so much sense. (unstable form just like his marriage) - Zeus lightning. Could write a whole essay on it. Loved it as a lazo/whip, bc it's electricity, you can't really have it contained, so what better way than to make it a whip out of nowhere to them come back to Zeus' hands, then disappear, then appear again as a staff, etc. Versatile like Zeus (mood) Zeus eyes, hello? they're so creepy. Also after Odysseus chooses to survive, his eyes shine just like Zeus -When Eurylochus says but then we'll die his expression is so good, he's like you're not seriously considering this, aren't you? -Also Eurylochus going for the sword the moment Zeus comes down, 100% something he would do (I̶ s̶a̶y̶ w̶e̶ s̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶ f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ w̶e̶ d̶o̶n̶'̶t̶ h̶a̶v̶e̶ t̶i̶m̶e̶ t̶o̶ w̶a̶s̶t̶e̶ s̶o̶ l̶e̶t̶'̶s̶ r̶a̶i̶d̶ t̶h̶e̶ p̶l̶a̶c̶e̶ ) -Zeus playing with the cloud as if it was a woman, and then when he says where only i can undress her he vanishes the cloud, like he just "conquered" another damsel- bc yk he's a disgusting pig and his record is pretty damming- but it fits the character, so even if it makes me a little sick, it was a well done characterization -The way he appears, as if he's coming down to the ship like he were an angel os smth like that in 0:21 as if he were a "savior" to then stop and start mocking them. Dunno, maybe I'm over analyzing but I liked that detail -"her true nature will be revealed" and you put Eurylochus looking down, ashamed, bc he knows his pride (and hunger) is what got them there (as in Zeus in their ship specifically) - Why do I think they'll lose? Odysseus looks down ashamed bc he's already demonstrated he'll do whatever it takes to get home - Don't make me do this, Odysseus covers his whole face, except for one eye. Idk if it's a reference to the cyclops but- it's just one life to take, and when we kill him then our journey is over(like when he killed the baby) and now if he wants to get home, he has to choose between one life- his own- or the lives of his crew... but he's already become the monster (if I become the monster to everyone but us- maybe that us it's not longer for him and his crew, but for him and his family). Again maybe I'm reading too much into this but I can't stop my brain The crew realizing that they aren't getting out of there if they die they'll bring Odysseus down with them. -The Penelope illusion- yeah Zeus ain't playing fair (for the crew). Also Eurylochus looking angrily at Zeus when she appears -The haunted look on Odysseus- damn. Also the illusion vanishing to show Zeus with a face that screams "you want this? this was a sneak peak dude, want to get home, make the choice, prove to me that I was right and that you're as selfish as I am" -The eagle, love the eagle and the glowing wings; also how despite a lightning hit the ship right in front of Odysseus, yk that destructive force that you can't really control, it destroyed everything and killed everyone (turning them to ashes) but it simply threw Odysseus away - bc Zeus made sure he didn't die by *his* hands, he din't care if he drowned. Odysseus reflection on Eurylochus' sword, both of them crying broke me a little. Also him reaching out for Odysseus in his last moments while he turned to ashes, as if his captain could save him. AND THE MEMORIES, POLITES AND EURYLOCHUS BOTH SMILING AT ODYSSEUS, AND HE TRIES BUT CAN'T REACHT THEM- BRO THAT KILLED ME, I SWEAR I WAS NOT EXPECTING TO TEAR UP WITH THIS okey now I'm definitely reading too much into this but the last part of Eurylochus that vanishes looks like a bird in 3:52 okey now I think I've covered everything I wanted to say Love it

ALSO holy shit your art style??? The shapes??? I think I genuinely started whooping out loud when he turned into a bird and soared up into the sky to gather his (TRIDENT SHAPED LMAO) lightning. That shit was so badass it almost made me forget what he was going to do. Odysseus' eyes glowing yellow as if to signify both the illusion/manipulation of Zeus and what side he was going to choose. Little notes I love: - Zeus using the clouds to appear as his typical depiction like "yes, bitches, it very much is I." - Zeus dropping the pressure when he descends onto the ship and hurting everyone's ears. Shows just how powerful his mere presence is and instantly makes him ten times more scary despite his almost human size. - Speaking of almost human, goddamn does Zeus look like some fantasy-esque creature in this and I love it! Gives him a big feeling of "otherness", like he's more monster than human. - Eury dodging the lightning whip leading to another getting hurt, portraying how he can't actually protect/lead them properly. - Zeus looking past Ody and at the crew at "since hunger was far too great" like "oh yeah, you guys aren't getting off scott free either, don't think you are." - Zeus picks up both Ody _and_ Eury and tosses them. Both are/were leaders of the crew, both were equally as stupid (at times), and both are gonna get punished for this shit. No favoritism. - Zeus raising his hand to the sky with his other hand on his heart, looking at the storm clouds like a lover. Love that expression, that emotion. Plus, almost feels like a respresentation of how enamoured he is with his position as king of the gods/god of the sky. - Ody visibly going mad as the realization that the crew he worked like hell to keep alive is all gonna get knocked out in one fell swoop _by his choice_ - Zeus looking down at Ody as the vision of Penelope fades away with that big, smug grin. Man just knows he's gotten exactly what he wants right then and there. - That _face_ Eury makes at "but we'll die". It looks like he's trying to smile, trying to laugh it off like his best friend is just joking and nah, they'll really all be fine. But at the same time he knows. He's already posing to fight. He knows. - "I know". Instant yellow eyes, like he's possessed. Like he's still seeing that vision of Penelope, because that's all he's thinking about right now is getting home to her. - The eagle imagery! Yes! I so rarely see this with him, and that ascending animation and the blast from it was so smooth! - The tears as Eury comes after Ody because that's his best friend, his brother in arms, and as pissed at him and as scared as he is, Ody's one of the last few things he's got left. - Eury either pushing or reaching out to Ody, either protecting him or wanting to hold onto him in his last moments. Shows how much he still cared. - The flashback. Ody reaching for the memory of them. Ow. That hurt my heart. That one's gonna leave a bruise. Overall an amazing animatic and probably my favorite. You're an amazing artist. Keep up the awesome work! Sorry this was long.
