A fine playthrough, clear explanations and very good quality video. Here's some gratuitous "strategic" advice. Why attack the tip of the Bialystok salient with armor? You want to encircle the bulk of the Soviet forces, do what the Germans did historically: mass and launch all the panzers through Grodno/Vilnius and Brest to meet around Minsk and close a big pocket, knocking out HQs along the way. Local encirclements won't get you to Moscow. Strike deep. The deeper the better. Especially on the first turn. I would note that the Soviet mechanized corps historically were not deployed near the frontier as in this setup. This deployment makes them much easier to surround and destroy.

The setup requirements limit your options on where you can deploy. However you can do a A historical, or completely historical setup if you wish. Mine is somewhere in the middle. Part of my thinking is not overshooting my supply with the germans. The way supply works in this game you have to stay within the "bubble" to be effective and start incurring penalties if you over extend which does make sense. Once you move a HQ up it takes a few turns for it to become active and useful again so you need to make use of overlapping supply. Personally I dont think I stand a chance of getting near Moscow in the time limit, but we will see.

I believe the Blitz Card Ferocity means that ALL ground combats within range of HQ receive a white light bolt. So its as if all combats have an air support white bolt and will roll one support die with the combat roll. Your planes will ADD to the one white light bolt given per the blitz card.

@@thegimpygamer Just Note. You skipped the german special movement phase. You had one hole(hex 7537) in the far north of the frontline where the germans could have moved in between. Remember: the blitz card ignores the first EZOC occurance. Around 25min just before combat declarations.

Yea I was thinking of that afterwards as a movement I could have made. You spend all that time learning the rules just to have the first turn say ignore some of them lol

Usually best for germ player to send panzers thru any hole the soviets give you(hint...hint).

At 31min, you state its a Major river. I think its a MINOR river. So that unit is not halved.

Thingiverse has some crystals (search 'em all) that make dandy little explosion markers. Use them for for combat site/damage markers and such, in other games. What 3-D printer model do you have?

@@thegimpygamer We have a couple Makerbots at the library where I work part time, and just got 2 new ones. Can't spell or remember the name, but the model is "TEK." I don't work in that room often enough to be efficient with them, damn it! Those crystals I mentioned look like 3 or 4 of them growing from a base, and should paint up nicely. I still have to search the site to find "explosion markers," which would be even better. Maybe for Target for Today? Just a little chrome.

@@JimBro317 That sounds like a higher end printer although I have been very pleased with mine. I did find some fire markers that should work pretty well.

The cards are worrying me, my nightmare is the card system used in No Retreat Russian Front. Different effects for different sides, cards that can be played in multiple phases and sub phases on both sides and worst of all cards that manipulate the card draw pile and the discard pile. Please tell me there is nothing like this.

I havent played No Retreat so I dont know how its cards work. These cards do seem to vary some to each side and can vary in phase. However I dont find the cards to be a major element of the game (blitzkrieg excluded) so if you wanted you could ignore them without losing out on much.

Great video. One question though, why did you not move any units in the Special Movement Step? Blitzkrieg Sneak Attack allows all units to move full move full MA, even if they start in EZOC. There is a gap in the Soviet front opposite to HG Nord (hex 7537) which one of the German Leg units could have moved into since all units may ZOC-slide on hex. Furthermore, you did not consider an attempt to overrun some hexes to create some more gaps in the front, through which you then could have moved more units before the actual combat phase? Or maybe there were no single small units in the front at set up, at bit hard to see in the video?

Due to the size and scope of the game I had to learn to play it kinda as I filmed it. It was simply to big to do a playthrough prior to filming. Due to that strategy was a little lacking.

Order them off amazon. I got both 8" and 12" tweezers pretty cheap there
