Hi Russel,. interesting to hear you talking about the way your syndicate operates, and to hear you say a week is'nt long enough. How does your allocation system work, is it by drawing out of a hat?. The lucky dip system was the norm for nearly all the Broads syndicates, with the exception of (I believe) Ranworth Breeze which does have some fixed weeks. We in the Lightning syndicate adopted the "rotating block" system, which has proved so popular, the Moonlight Shadow, Silver Cloud, and I believe Blue Mist have adopted our system, and I'm particularly pleased, because it was a system I came up with, and I wondered whether the Thunder syndicate are looking into changing there's.

We just do the dates out the hat system, works for us so far even if it can be a little annoying with the dates at times but so far everyone seems ok with it

You wouldn't be able to put exactly that system in place for Thunder because 20% of the shares have priority when it comes to allocation - so they can choose whatever week they want within each quarter. I can't see those owners ever giving that up.

How come some people have priority on Thunder? As Neil says, Moonlight Shadow is adopting the same scheme as Lightning. Not until May 2024 though, as the last couple of years we’ve done the draw two years in advance instead of one year. Quite a lot of us had got fed up with the randomness of the old draw system, where some people seemed to draw the short straw or ended up with an early week for one season then a late week the following season. We’ll still be able to do swaps under the new scheme, but at least our allocated weeks will be spread out more evenly.

@@ynys_mon6928 Hiya, yes, i came up with the system because we (Karen and i), kept drawing March for our Spring week and November for our autumn week, when others were regularly drawing May and September, therefore always getting 3 holidays in the best 5 months, whereas we were always getting 3 holidays in the worst 5 months. I know Alan was telling me that school holiday weeks on Ranworth Breeze are set and command a premium on the price. A bit too troublesome for my liking, but they obviously accept it, and it sounds like Thunder run a similar type of system. The way ours works is everybody has a week every 12 weeks (or 13 when the 4% share kicks in) which jumps 4 weeks to the 5 th following week so you cover every week in a 12 year period, by going "early, mid, late, back to early-ish, and then onward. It`s what stopped me from selling our share.
