This is the opening video of the PC Game, Wing Commander III, which was recorded using the video capture feature of the DOSbox front end application, D-Fend Reloaded v. 1.0.3

There is something really special about 90s CGI in videogames. This is comparable to the live action scenes in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. The CGI didn't look photorealistic and wasn't trying to. This was from a 5 year period where it could suspend your disbelief while not trying too hard to be perfect. I love it!
@youuuuuuuuuuutube Жыл бұрын
It was absolutely trying to be photorealistic. But because of low budget and technology, compromises had to be made, which ironically resulted in that style that you like.
@gillespage5489 Жыл бұрын
@@youuuuuuuuuuutube I think the videos are in ega resolution, on crt monitors they looked way better, especially then when we were used to 240p television when it came to video...
@andrewm3210 Жыл бұрын
At this point, the novelty was the very use of CGI itself. The distinctive look of what we now consider poor CGI was something that was sought out back in the early 90s. That time passed and now it looks dated but when WC3 came out the effects were a really big deal

What? The only good thing about the costumes were the head designs (although far too big for the bodies). The rest of the costume made them look like Thunderbirds puppets. And even taking into account that your comment was posted 4 years ago, the game even in 2020 was closer to 30 years old, not 20.

One of the best games of all times. My recommendation is to try it on hardest difficulty, because that challenge really intensifies the atmosphere. Me and a friend played it in hotseat co-op many years ago and we had a blast. Speaking of co-op - just how awesome all these space games would've been with a proper co-op mode. Just do a remake with better graphics and added multiplayer. That would make me re-buy so many old classic games.

Mass Effect Trilogy good sir/madam. I also love the WC games and while ME isn't a flight game the writing is better, characters good and story decent. Combat in 1 is meh... but 2 onwards is good. They even have that feature that if you carry your save from the last game it uses that and adjusts the story. So if a character dies in no.1, they're dead.

Such Nostalgia indeed! I spent countless sleepless nights playing WC1/WC2, and those two hooked me for the series till the end. However, I was very disappointed Story wise when Hobbes turns out to be an agent, the events of WC3 did not make justice to the previous story arcs nor to their ethical direction, all of the sudden it all became self centred narcissistic in a way and immoral. Last ditch weapons mass Destruction Weapons looked like WWII USA versus Japan inspired. And not so much original once looked at from that angle. Nevertheless the series endured and I continued playing and beyond to WC5, Privateer, and then Starlancer (I really enjoyed that one) and Freelancer. So here's to a Classic anyways! :)

Stan's only 7 years younger than Hamill is here, and you can kinda see similarities in how they act. 5:59 just this rest of the scene especially, I can easily see Stan, its uncanny. Their voices are pretty different obviously, Hamill's voice is distinctly higher and raspier, but I'm pretty sure if Seb tried he could mimic its breathiness. Because in some ways Star Citizen is a reimagined and expanded Wing Commander. Squadron 42 will be a full length stand alone single player game within the universe where you are a fighter pilot based on an aircraft carrier. Chris Roberts was the creator for Wing Commander and is the lead for Star Citizen and even includes some of the same actors.
@ricomon358 жыл бұрын
You won't be seeing Kilrathi in SQ42....ever. SC has nothing to do with WC.- other than voice acting. Different universe altogether. The Kilrathi are not even original in and of themselves, but taken from the original Kzin race in Larry Nivens RingWorld series of novels.
