This was the first James Bond movie I saw in a theater, in a double-feature with 'You Only Live Twice.' Within weeks I had bought a mask, snorkel, and fins and taken up "skin diving." Scuba diving would come later, but this was where it started for me. (Watching 'Sea Hunt' on TV played a part, too, of course, but 'Thunderball' cemented it.)

You can see a continuity error 0:14 look at Q's left wrist there is a watch. But when Q gave Bond the Breitling, his watch is gone and goes back in the wide shot after the close-up.

Thunderball and Goldfinger yes. You Only Live Twice is closer to a Carry on Movie than a Bond one. Plus Bond is just devoid of dynamic in it. he's just a catalyst for each action scene. Thunderball, Goldfinger and On her Majesty's Secret Service are the three best imo.

This scene, and others involving Bond and Q, that began in Goldfinger(1964) are the foundation for what was to be called "sit-coms" later on on TV. Smart, short one-liners spoken with sarcasm and black humour. Thanks to director Terence Young and Sean Connery, who started off this kind of witty one-liners already in "Dr.No"(1962).

Thunderball isn't up to the standards of the other 60's Bond films but I think it has the best interaction between Bond and Q of any film in the series.

@@wbcjr17106 So? It won the Oscar for special effects. Special effects on their own don't guarantee that a film will be better than the others. In any case, this wasn't the first Bond film to win an Oscar and the special effects in Thunderball are actually pretty ropey even by 60's standards.

To me these earlier bond films had style credibility and excitement ..the story moved along without.being overwhelmed by over the top action or impossible to follow plots ... It's only.my opinion. The best bond movies fantasy keeps you believing in it right up to the end credits these and 3 of Roger Moores bond films did this with panache .... Connery perhaps being the most convincing and serious of the performances while adding a little humour and suave

Q gives Bond the watch and tells him it's a Geiger Counter....then he gives him a camera, and tells him it's and underwater camera......but later on in the movie Bond is with Domino on the beach, and he gives her the very same camera and tells her the camera is a Geiger Counter........Bond got confused I think, Q already told him it was the watch that is the Geiger Counter....the cameras is a camera that takes pictures underwater!!!

FYI, the editing is poor: @ 01:28, we can hardly see Llewelyn's lips move when we here, "Now pay attention". This is also true in the beginning of the film in the pre-credits when the French/Japanese agent asks Bond if there is anything they can do for him and the Spectre agent's car's door is slammed, Connery says, "Later, come on". However, we don't see his lips move.
