Thunderbirds was arguably the first to bring technology down from space and used for something other than exploration and battle. Truly a classic. Thanks!
@morganrobinson80425 жыл бұрын
Right? It's depressingly unique to use space-age or later technology for something as humanitarian as rescue work in fiction. Like, the Thunderbirds as an organization were essentially superheros who only used what they could do to help, even when they quite evidently had the resources to engage in and win military conflict at least on the small scale. But the organization is pacifistic and apolitical. And the person most likely to engage in physical conflict was a female James Bond. For a Cold War American tv show with all these wizz-bang ascetics, this was amazingly progressive. The people making this show were smart, and had an interesting perspective about what ends technology should be serving, even if they weren't popular at the time.
@tomeden4795 жыл бұрын
@@morganrobinson8042 hay, i really agree with what your saying but the show is British, they just used american voice actors to give it more appeal over the pond. Something you might like to hear is that Jerry Anderson was really progressive in all his shows, to the extent of the studios having to hold him back at the time. its why all of the pilots in Captain scarlet were female, i wish i could find one to link to but there are some really good interviews on in if you can find them.

It's my favourite, reminds me of the Eagle from Space 1999. The flowing lines though give it a classical look, it's a pretty ship. Not a utilitarian design, but still very practical in its layout. I wish I could see the whole Stingray series. Captain Scarlet was also pretty good. And if you ignored the "no such thing as light-speed" problem, Fireball XL5 was pretty good for its time. And then there was Space Patrol, which also broke new ground in not always depicting aliens as mindless aggressors. I still remember bits of the episode where an alien child (of an alien king, naturally) catches a cold from contact with humans and is in danger of dying because it has no resistance to the disease, so the humans have to pursuade the king to let one of them return to their ship to bring back their cure for the common cold.
