I can't imagine any pre-production testing scenario where these oil pressure drops would be deemed acceptable by the engineers. The Subaru EJ guys are accustomed to needing baffled oil pans for the track, but it doesn't look like any pans on the market today fix oil pressure drops on this car (yet).

Would agree with everything you said there.

Looking forward to seeing if any of the tomei or greddy baffles rectify the oiling issue-- especially considering I'm looking to get an 86

You going to try a Tomei baffle plate? I seen another youtube claim it did seem to help but I'd be curious to see with a telemetry like the one you got

Yeah, with TrackAndBuild’s results, I don’t think it justifies more testing. He has a very similar data logging setup to me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWaQmZlmiLCthMk

Have you tested over filled yet ? I’ve run 4 track days with 1 quart overfilled and no baffle or cooler. Curious to how many track days I get until the engine blows.
@900BRZ Жыл бұрын
I did a half liter overfill, but it was at the end of the day and my times were no longer as fast, so I’d call it inconclusive. Looking to do more overfill testing, but going to take the pre-screen off first.

Any chance of data sharing with anyone from the old Subaru rally division, or even the Subaru USA guys who built The Huckster? Surely these people would be well across this issue, as it is a common boxer engine issue because of the wider and shallower pan.

I’d be happy to talk to anyone from Subaru who would listen!

Great video as always ! Do you have an approximation when the new baffle video will go up?

New video is live!

Hey Brian, I watched the 1.5hr interview you recently had, I have been following your research previously to the interview. I wanted to let you know that I wanted a BRZ when they first came out in 2013 and could not afford one at the time, when I was able to purchase my 22 BRZ I was committed to be all in even thought I knew there would be issues since that is normal when new models come out, I am reaching out because instead of dumping/partinf out the car I want to do data log, please point me in the right direction so I can also use my own controls and analyze the data and share it with everyone that is commited to keep on riding the G2 BRZ. Thanks for the comment and all the interest. My friend NoStreetRacing86 is working on making the custom pressure sensor setup more accessible. It’s still in progress, but hopefully we’ll have something to share soon. Meanwhile, I’d recommend getting started with a data logger like Aim Solo 2 DL or RaceChrono.

How are you tracking all this data? And these overlays are so clean man
@900BRZ Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm using an Aim Solo 2 DL (data logger) and then using Race Render to overlay the data. Spent a lot of time customizing the gauges!

I dont get it. Didn't they (Subaru or Toyota) test the engine on a proving ground track? I'd say that's prerogative for a sportscar, even if it's in the lower price range, but what the heck do I know...
@900BRZ Жыл бұрын
It’s also possible they tested it and these pressure drops were within their design parameters, but that’s hard for me to believe.
@hamishbartholomaeus Жыл бұрын
Chatter is that Subaru is/was well aware of the issue,( I mean, it has been an aero engine/VW/Porsche issue since the 50’s/70’s!!) but Toyota signed off on the engine as it is… Take that with a grain of salt, but it is what I can deduce. Why Subaru would have presented it with an non-baffled sump or a single spot oil pickup is anyone’s guess…*cough budget restraints cough*
