the areodynamic friction sound sounds like part fo the gma t50 engine lab video on their youtube channel, is that intentionally tuned sound? the inline i think can sound better, even feeling more torquier in the sense it its more simple sounding than v6 so it sounds more like grunting like how you may do sometimes when moving heavy weight. see youtbe video by savagese review of maserati grecale , it sounds somewhat like lc500 v8 but without enough base heaviness and sharp sound and rough edge to it and to it but with greater range in pitch than lc500. also is there a fake engine sound kit aftermarket

Even in 5th gear the pickup was so smooth from that little 3 cylinder turbo engine....and the electronic rev matching is just another level when downshifting...love this car

It sits quite well up till 230 on the highway where it‘s electronically limited due to the diff and it really pulls at 220 like it could go easily up to 260. also suspension is so much better and high speed stability than my M2competition. Both cars are fully stock.

Now i kinda wonder how the upcoming "Evo" version with the new 8-speed Auto is going to perform here. It has slightly more power with around 280hp (the non-European version gets a pretty neat 300hp) and some other improvements here & there.

@@davothegreat9990 It's the way the GRY is perceived by people who drive it. Same reason why Porsche PDK is technically faster but for enjoyment and engagement people prefer manual. Objectivity belongs in competitive racing, these are consumer vehicles and subjectivity is king, hence why delusioned owners of FK8's and FL5s feel they are superior because a professional driver was able to do a faster lap utilising skill they will never attain.

The shifter issue is a big problem with CAE on the Focus RS as well, it need constant adjustment to get it to continue working properly, otherwise it comes out of alignment and you "lose" gears as you experienced, pretty cool build and fun lap though!

I keep the adjustment allen key in the cup holder for mine because it happens from time to time. Usually it never takes more than 1/4 turn to be perfect again. I've adjusted mine like 4 times in 3 years because of lost gears lol

Yeah, though the reasoning for DK's AE86 was because Gunsai in general favours acceleration more than top speed hence the 5th gear is modified to be a 4th gear with closer ratio. Pretty neat stuff by Tec-Arts

The question of cage without helmet comes down to where the cage is. If you run the risk of your head hitting the cage in a crash, you best be wearing a helmet. In this case the cage looks well out of the way.

@@tizodd6 Yep, it's in the GR Corolla with a power increase. It's a specialty engine for sure, but also a production engine. I mean any more than say the GTR's VR38 motor. It's built at Toyota's specialty center with a dedicated builder for each motor.

I remember reading that in Japan one of the famous Evo tuning shops wanted to find the limits of the GR Yaris engine so they tried boosting it way up. They made it to something like 400-450hp and it just wouldn't blow. So they dialed things back a bit then sent Nobuteru Taniguchi to drive the car around Tsukuba where it did a 58.5 second lap pretty much on the first try. See: qFHxA9zW5tk

There was two sections there(sorry unsure of the names) where Misha was as quick or slightly quicker from 100-190 with no 4th gear than with it! Lol. Clearly it missed 4th gear in places but the flexibility of that little engine blew me away.

There is no gearbox rebuild needed. The short shifter just came out of adjustment. A 10mm socket, ratchet and 10 mins in the parking lot and it was back to the track. This things gearbox was built to last like everything else on this car. When Toyota puts their mind to doing something, it's done right

That the slip indicator light. In Expert mode (which I assume they were using) the traction and stability controls still function, but at a lower level, so you will still get it intervening if there is wheelspin.

I think the grub screws on the cage need adjusting. It's possible to limit gear changes if the adjustment gets out of wack. Done the same thing on my Coolerworx before not being able to get reverse. No gearbox issues just the linkage needs a little adjustment. Cool car and lap. In gear acceleration is good but I think it's the weight, 4wd and auto blip that allows for pretty rapid laptimes. Did Misha speak of a power output? Might have missed that
