Actually, they would have to spend a lot for the asests to bring back all the stuff. They need to update all the asests even for the console versions as they updated the rendering engine a bit. And don't even get me started on PC regarding asests. On top of that, they would have to convert the map code into the new map software they made for D2 and that it's harder than you think. In case of engine updates, let's say, for Unreal Engine, if they release a new version if you convert the game to that, it can break the whole game. That is a similar to putting the map from D1 into D2. There's a good chance of them having to rebuild large amounts of the map from scratch. So yeah, it likely wasn't that easy to bring it into D2.

I know I'm late to the party since this was out last year, but I'm glad SOMEONE is saying the same things that I've been saying since Destiny first came out. They should have been just adding to the world and not starting over every three years or whatever. Add more stuff in, not take stuff out. Way back in D1, I got a green lmg; forgot its name; that came with Focused Fire, or whatever the perk that slowed RPM when ADS but ups the damage in exchange. Thing killed in like 2 shots, maybe 3. I miss it.

the main problem with stacking update on top of updates is the size of data the game will eventually hold. if D1 and D2 were to combine just in map space the game would take up too much space on consoles. if destiny was a pc exclusive then space would be less of a problem. in addition the assets that they use are converted but not just a pure copy and paste. a new game allows bungie to get rid of old unused assets or assets that wouldn't be used anymore making the game smaller. FFXV is a good example of a game that takes up too much space just with its updates. im not saying it wouldn't be fun to have all the d1 stuff in d2 but having separate titles allows bungie to shape unique experiences without having to worry about a lot old content and balancing (from d1 to d2). also they might be using the cosmodrome for the location of the black armory dlc as i believe the dlc or raid lair is on earth and has to with SIVA (speculation).

Would rather have 1 massive game that takes up all your space or multiple games that you can switch between when you want to. Plus having old content constantly being refurbished is counter productive because players would get bored of it all way too quickly. We may have fond memories of vault of Glass and the other raids but would it really be fun after an excessive number of times performing the same old raids we already got bored of?
