Thunderstorm in Burbank, CA 12/28/2020

I heard this last December in North Hollywood as well. I checked the weather radar, and there was a line of strong thunderstorms passing from west to east across LA that night.

My dog woke me up because she knew it was coming then bam if It wasn’t for my dog I wouldn’t see this and heavy rain

Besides the normal crackles and rumbles, I heard multiple booms that sounded like bombs. I read this morning that there were a lot of ground strikes. I wonder if anything blew up. Exhilarating and awesome display of mother nature. Thanks for capturing this on video.

Neil de Grasse Tyson made a recent video explaining how thunder works. In short, the super-hot lightning discharge "catastrophically" expands the air, which in effect is creating the same effect as a bomb explosion. So no wonder if you're close to a lightning strike, the thunder will sound explosive. Boom is right!

I heard a nearby apartment I guess somehow caught on fire at 4:58am and I live close by two different fire station

I heard a storm too. That was 6 months ago when I heard it rumble. It was at 5 in the morning.

It was an incredible storm! Had quite a bit of hail too. Last time I saw one like this in Burbank was almost 45 years ago, and it didn't last as long. Thank you for posting this. I'm subscribing to your channel.

Best video I have seen to capture this rare event! We are in Universal / Studio City and thought there was a terrible wreck on the 101 Freeway! The thunder woke us up from deep sleep. WOW ..Well, we needed the rain and got a sound and light show for free. Thanks for capturing this . The rest of the country think we are idiots for all the excitement ! LOL

Yeah I’m a few miles away in Noho and it just went crazy for about 15 minutes the wind was kicking up real hard and lots of lightning. I was expecting a strike near the house at any moment it got so loud. But it passed by eventually.

Yep I live in Altadena CA. That storm dropped a lot of hail in the area.

Unusual for So' Cal'. You must visit Chicago in August with a cold front. You would be stunned at the cloud to ground lightning. Go into KZbin and key in CHICAGO LIGHTNING STORM 8/4/2008. It will blow your mind. The worst cloud to ground lightning you will ever see. Nice video by the way. I live on the high desert (Palmdale) and we missed this event completely.

Yes, I've wanted to go storm chasing for many years. I'm fascinated (at an amateur level) by severe weather. I'll look up the video you recommend. The thunderstorm I recorded was very local, so not surprising it missed you in Palmdale. I was lucky that it passed right in front of me to capture it.
