Bravo Richard for this new painting. Your sky is really successful. We could almost hear the thunder echoing in the valley. Indeed, your way of painting has evolved compared to your model of 6 years ago, with in particular more subtlety in your touches and in the juxtaposition of various colors. Hi Richard, good to see you so alive and well. Still under lockdown? - It's good to be able to paint from a template at home too. It brings back the memories. The painting is fantastically vibrant, the colouring brilliant as always. I love the turmoil in the clouds, you can feel the storm coming and already see the rain. Wonderfully realised, and the contrast of the warm to the cooler colours is wonderful too, it creates even more tension, which after all you can feel before any thunderstorm. - Thank you, Richard, stay healthy and have a nice week.

(David Fisher) Richard this is really interesting to compare with your six years ago paintings of the same subject. Those were great paintings, but honestly I think this one is substantively better. Fantastic drama and energy in the thunderhead. Love the way that you've sculpted the right hand sienna mountainside which was looking too red until you added that great downswipe accent. Also really love the across-the-color-wheel accents especially the intermittent teal drops and your signature cad yellow peaks.

Love this. I'm watching a couple of your videos, we have very similar tastes in painting technique. I've realized that bigger, broader knife strokes for the top clouds and the bottom mountain/road area will create a deeper depth and feeling. For me it's not just about the color, (something you nail beautifully), but also the type of palette knife strokes.

One thought. The excess linen cut, what about making very thin but long landscape paintings. Great way to recycle and a unique shape (visa versa horizontal or vertical). Or stretch, glue, overlap on a board to give it a blinds/shades effect linen base.

I've noticed that when I do some brush work that the textures are different. The palette knife work shows up shiny and the brush work is dull. It doesn't seem congruent that way.
