I’ve seen many a model of Thurmond. Many C&O/CSX modelers model the New River Gorge and most all have Thurmond as the centerpiece of the model

The only one I can think of by name is the Kanawha Valley Railroad Association layout. You can find some videos of their layout on their website and on KZbin. I also recommend googling “Thurmond WV model railroad” that will give you some good information, including a track layout from Model Railroader.

I absolutely would recommend railfanning Thurmond and the New River Gorge as a whole. The train count isn’t incredibly high, some 15-20 per day, but it’s absolutely beautiful here and will provide you with some interesting views.
