The danger to people is the things that get whipped by the wind & blown through the air..slates etc..potentially very dangerous.

I'm in Glenshee and dear old Dudley stayed well away from us thankfully. We've had so many bad storms and power outages this winter - we needed a break. Role on that hot ballmy Scottish summer we all know and love 😉.

I just managed to escape all the weather warnings caused by the storm by the narrowest of margins. I stay in Inverness which is in northern Scotland but I still got a little bit of snow. That Storm was mad.

It's been slightly downgraded over the last 12 hours...yesterday widely gusts to 80mph over southern England but slightly less now -sting jet could cause the biggest gusts towards the east and south east.

Is it now classed as a cyclone and not a storm surely with the sting jet occuring?
@danstastudios2602
@danstastudios2602 2 жыл бұрын
No, it is not. A cyclone is a form of a tropical storm (of which there are 5 types), which ONLY originate in places with a sea surface temperature higher than 27 degrees celsius and only in South Asia. 😀 hope that answers the question
@DavidTheScientist
@DavidTheScientist 2 жыл бұрын
@@danstastudios2602 Cyclone/typhoon/hurricane... Same thing, different oceans. But yes, as you say, they need to be tropical in origin.

Yes, but it probably wont be that bad as the forcasts has it slightly weaker than it was a few days ago
@michaelespeland
@michaelespeland 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sam88-l4k They didnt give it a red warning simply because it is forecast to be stronger. Its because its closer to landfall now than it was a few days ago, so the models are more accurate. You never issue red warnings 3-4-5 days in advance if the condidtions are uncertain, which they often are with strong systems developing off a surge in the jet stream. Models were both deeper and stronger on tuesday than what they are now.

@@Flash81_ I know that, but there is very little specificity in what he is saying. Just because that is the weather at point A doesn't mean it is at point B. They mention places when talking about other areas, just not the SW.
